Lévitique 26

1 Vous ne vous ferez pas d’idoles, et vous ne vous dresserez pas d’image taillée, ou de statue, et vous ne mettrez pas de pierre sculptée dans votre pays, pour vous prosterner devant elles; car moi, je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu.

Ye shall not make unto you idols, —neither image nor pillar, shall ye set up for yourselves, nor sculptured stone, shall ye place in your land, to bow yourselves down thereunto, -For, I Yahweh, am your God.

2 Vous garderez mes sabbats, et vous révérerez mon sanctuaire. Moi, je suis l’Éternel.

My sabbaths, shall ye observe, And, my sanctuary, shall ye revere, —I, am Yahweh.

3 Si vous marchez dans mes statuts, et si vous gardez mes commandements et les pratiquez,

If, in my statutes, ye will walk, —And my commandments, ye will observe, and do them,

4 je vous donnerai vos pluies en leur temps, et la terre donnera son rapport, et l’arbre des champs donnera son fruit.

Then will I give your rains in their season, —And the land shall yield her increase, And, the trees of the field, shall yield their fruit.

5 Le temps du foulage atteindra pour vous la vendange, et la vendange atteindra les semailles; et vous mangerez votre pain à rassasiement, et vous habiterez en sécurité dans votre pays.

Then shall your threshing reach unto the vintage, And, the vintage, shall reach unto the seedtime, —And ye shall eat your food to the full, And shall dwell securely in your land.

6 Et je donnerai la paix dans le pays; et vous dormirez sans que personne vous épouvante; et je ferai disparaître du pays les bêtes mauvaises, et l’épée ne passera pas par votre pays.

And I will give peace in the land, And ye shall lie down, and nothing shall make you afraid; And I will take away vicious beasts out of the land; And, the sword, shall not go through your land.

7 Et vous poursuivrez vos ennemis, et ils tomberont devant vous par l’épée.

And ye shall chase your foes, —And they shall fall before you by the sword;

8 Et cinq d’entre vous en poursuivront 100, et 100 d’entre vous en poursuivront 10 000, et vos ennemis tomberont devant vous par l’épée.

And, five, of you shall chase, a hundred, And, a hundred, of you shall put ten thousand to flight, —So shall your foes fall before you, by the sword.

9 Et je me tournerai vers vous, et je vous ferai fructifier, et je vous multiplierai, et je mettrai à effet mon alliance avec vous.

And I will turn unto you, And make you fruitful, —And multiply you, And will establish my covenant with you.

10 Et vous mangerez de vieilles provisions, et vous sortirez le vieux de devant le nouveau.

And ye shall eat old store well seasoned, —And the old from before the new, shall ye put forth.

11 Et je mettrai mon tabernacle au milieu de vous, et mon âme ne vous aura pas en horreur;

And I will set my habitation in your midst, —And my soul shall not abhor you;

12 et je marcherai au milieu de vous; et je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez mon peuple.

But I will walk to and fro in your midst, And will be unto you a God, And, ye, shall be unto me a people.

13 Moi, je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu, qui vous ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, afin que vous ne soyez pas leurs esclaves: j’ai brisé les liens de votre joug, et je vous ai fait marcher la tête levée.

I—Yahweh, am your God who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; so I brake in pieces the staves of your yoke, and caused you to walk, erect.

14 Mais si vous ne m’écoutez pas, et si vous ne pratiquez pas tous ces commandements,

But, if ye will not hearken unto me, And will not do all these commandments;

15 et si vous méprisez mes statuts, et si votre âme a en horreur mes ordonnances, de sorte que vous ne pratiquiez pas tous mes commandements et que vous rompiez mon alliance,

And if, my statutes, ye refuse, And, my regulations, your souls shall abhor, —So that ye will not do all my commandments, But shall break my covenant

16 moi aussi, je vous ferai ceci: J’ordonnerai sur vous la frayeur, la consomption et la fièvre qui consumeront vos yeux et feront défaillir votre âme; et vous sèmerez en vain votre semence, car vos ennemis la mangeront.

I also, will do this unto you—I will set over you, for terror, consumption and fever, Causing the eyes to fail and the soul to pine away, —And ye shall sow, in vain, your seed, for it shall be eaten by your foes.

17 Et je tournerai ma face contre vous: vous serez battus devant vos ennemis; ceux qui vous haïssent domineront sur vous; et vous fuirez sans que personne vous poursuive.

And I will set my face against you, And ye shall be smitten before your foes, -And be trodden down by them who hate you, And shall flee when no one is pursuing you.

18 Et si, après cela encore, vous ne m’écoutez pas, je vous châtierai encore sept fois plus à cause de vos péchés;

And, if even with these things, ye will not hearken unto me, Then will I yet further correct you seven times, for your sins.

19 et je briserai l’orgueil de votre force, et je ferai que votre ciel sera comme de fer, et votre terre comme d’airain.

So will I break your pomp of power, And will set your heavens as iron, and your land as bronze;

20 Et vous dépenserez votre force en vain, et votre terre ne donnera pas son rapport, et les arbres de la terre ne donneront pas leur fruit.

And your strength shall be spent in vain, —And your land shall not yield her increase, And the trees of the land, shall not yield their fruit.

21 Et si vous marchez en opposition avec moi et que vous ne vouliez pas m’écouter, je vous frapperai encore sept fois plus, selon vos péchés;

If therefore, ye will go in opposition to me, And not be willing to hearken unto me, Then will I yet further plague you seven times according to your sins;

22 et j’enverrai contre vous les bêtes des champs, qui vous raviront vos enfants, et détruiront votre bétail, et vous réduiront à un petit nombre; et vos chemins seront désolés.

And will send among you the wild-beast of the field And it shall rob you of your children, And cut off your cattle, And make you few in number; And your roads shall be silent.

23 Et si par ces choses-là vous ne recevez pas mon instruction, et que vous marchiez en opposition avec moi,

And, if, by these things, ye will not be corrected by me, —But will go in opposition to me,

24 je marcherai, moi aussi, en opposition avec vous, et je vous frapperai, moi aussi, sept fois plus, à cause de vos péchés;

Then will, I also, go in opposition to you. And, I, even I, will plague you seven times for your sins;

25 et je ferai venir sur vous l’épée qui exécute la vengeance de l’alliance; et quand vous serez rassemblés dans vos villes, j’enverrai la peste au milieu de vous, et vous serez livrés en la main de l’ennemi.

And will bring in upon you a sword that shall inflict the covenanted avenging: So shall ye be gathered into your cities, —Then will I send a pestilence into your midst, And ye shall be delivered into the hand of an enemy.

26 Quand je vous briserai le bâton du pain, dix femmes cuiront votre pain dans un seul four et vous rendront votre pain au poids; et vous mangerez, et vous ne serez pas rassasiés.

When I have broken your staff of bread, then shall ten women bake your bread in one oven, And give back your bread by weight, —And ye shall eat and not be filled.

27 Et si avec cela vous ne m’écoutez pas, et que vous marchiez en opposition avec moi,

And, if, with this, ye will not hearken to me, —But will go in opposition to me,

28 je marcherai aussi en opposition avec vous, avec fureur, et je vous châtierai, moi aussi, sept fois plus, à cause de vos péchés;

Then will I go in a rage of opposition to you, —And I, even I, will correct you seven times for your sins;

29 et vous mangerez la chair de vos fils, et vous mangerez la chair de vos filles;

And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, —Yea, even the flesh of your daughters, shall ye eat.

30 je détruirai vos hauts lieux, et j’abattrai vos colonnes consacrées au soleil, et je mettrai vos cadavres sur les cadavres de vos idoles, et mon âme vous aura en horreur.

And I will destroy your high places And cut down your sun-pillars, And cast your carcases upon the carcases of your manufactured gods, —Thus shall my soul abhor you.

31 Et je réduirai vos villes en déserts, et je désolerai vos sanctuaires, et je ne flairerai pas l’odeur agréable de vos parfums,

And I will give your cities unto desolation, And make your holy places dumb, —And will find no fragrance in your satisfying odour;

32 et je désolerai le pays, et vos ennemis qui y habiteront en seront étonnés;

And, I, will make the land dumb, And your foes that dwell therein shall regard it with dumb amazement:

33 et vous, je vous disperserai parmi les nations, et je tirerai l’épée après vous, et votre pays sera mis en désolation, et vos villes seront un désert.

When, even you, I scatter among the nations, And make bare after you, a sword, Then shall your land become an astonishment, And your cities become a desolation.

34 Alors le pays jouira de ses sabbats tous les jours de sa désolation: quand vous, vous serez dans le pays de vos ennemis, alors le pays se reposera, et jouira de ses sabbats.

Then, shall the land be paid her sabbaths, All the days she lieth desolate, While, ye, are in the land of your foes, —Then, shall the land keep sabbath, And pay off her sabbaths:

35 Tous les jours qu’il sera désolé, il se reposera, parce qu’il ne s’était pas reposé dans vos sabbats pendant que vous y habitiez.

All the days she lieth desolate, shall she keep sabbath, —the which she kept not as your sabbaths, —while ye dwelt thereupon.

36 Et quant à ceux qui demeureront de reste d’entre vous, je ferai venir la lâcheté dans leur cœur, dans les pays de leurs ennemis, et le bruit d’une feuille emportée [par le vent] les poursuivra, et ils fuiront comme on fuit l’épée, et tomberont sans que personne les poursuive;

And as for such as are left of you, Then will I bring faintness into their heart, in the lands of their foes, —So that the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them, And they shall flee as though fleeing from a sword And they shall fall, when no one is pursuing;

37 et ils trébucheront l’un par-dessus l’autre comme devant l’épée, sans que personne les poursuive; et vous ne pourrez pas tenir devant vos ennemis;

And they shall stumble one upon another as from before a sword, when, pursuer there is none; And ye shall not have wherewith to stand before your foes;

38 et vous périrez parmi les nations, et le pays de vos ennemis vous dévorera.

And ye shall perish among the nations, —And the land of your foes shall eat you up;

39 Et ceux qui demeureront de reste d’entre vous, se consumeront dans leur iniquité, dans les pays de vos ennemis; et ils se consumeront, dans les iniquités de leurs pères, avec eux.

And they who are left of you, shall melt away in their iniquity, in the lands of your foes; Yea also, in the iniquity of their fathers with them, shall they melt away.

40 Et ils confesseront leur iniquité et l’iniquité de leurs pères, selon leurs infidélités par lesquelles ils ont été infidèles envers moi, et aussi comment ils ont marché en opposition avec moi,

Then shall they confess their iniquity, And the iniquity of their fathers, In their unfaithfulness wherewith they had been unfaithful towards me; Yea moreover, because they had gone in opposition to me,

41 en sorte que moi aussi, j’ai marché en opposition avec eux, et que je les ai amenés dans le pays de leurs ennemis. Si alors leur cœur incirconcis s’humilie et qu’alors ils acceptent la punition de leur iniquité,

I also, must needs go in opposition to them, and bring them into the land of their foes, —Save only that, if, even then, their uncircumcised heart shall be humbled, And, even then, they shall accept as a payment the punishment of their iniquity,

42 je me souviendrai de mon alliance avec Jacob, et aussi de mon alliance avec Isaac, et je me souviendrai aussi de mon alliance avec Abraham, et je me souviendrai de la terre:

Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob Yea moreover, my covenant with Isaac, Yea moreover, my covenant with Abraham, will I remember; And the land, will I remember.

43 la terre aura été abandonnée par eux, et elle aura joui de ses sabbats, dans sa désolation, eux n’y étant plus; et ils accepteront la punition de leur iniquité, parce que…, oui, parce qu’ils ont méprisé mes ordonnances, et que leurs âmes ont eu en horreur mes statuts.

For, the land, shall be left of them, And shall be paid her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them, They also, accepting, as a payment, the punishment of their iniquity, Because, yea because, my regulations, they refused, And my statutes, their soul abhorred.

44 Même alors, quand ils seront dans le pays de leurs ennemis, je ne les mépriserai pas et je ne les aurai pas en horreur pour en finir avec eux, pour rompre mon alliance avec eux; car moi, je suis l’Éternel, leur Dieu;

And yet even so when they are in the land of their foes I have not refused them Neither have I abhorred them To make an end of them, To break my covenant with them, —For, I—Yahweh, am their God.

45 et je me souviendrai en leur faveur de l’alliance faite avec leurs ancêtres, lesquels j’ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, sous les yeux des nations, pour être leur Dieu. Moi, je suis l’Éternel.

Therefore will I remember in their behalf the covenant of their ancestors, —Whom, I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God—I—Yahweh.

46 Ce sont là les statuts, et les ordonnances, et les lois que l’Éternel établit entre lui et les fils d’Israël, sur la montagne de Sinaï, par Moïse.

These are the statutes and the regulations and the laws, which Yahweh granted between himself, and the sons of Israel, —in Mount Sinai by the mediation of Moses.
