Juges 1
1 Et il arriva, après la mort de Josué, que les fils d’Israël interrogèrent l’Éternel, disant: Qui de nous montera le premier contre le Cananéen, pour lui faire la guerre?
Aftir the deeth of Josue the sones of Israel counseliden the Lord, and seiden, Who schal stie bifor vs ayens Cananei, and schal be duik of the batel?
2 Et l’Éternel dit: Juda montera; voici, j’ai livré le pays en sa main.
And the Lord seide, Judas schal stie; lo! Y haue youe the lond in to hise hondis.
3 Et Juda dit à Siméon, son frère: Monte avec moi dans mon lot, et faisons la guerre contre le Cananéen; et moi aussi j’irai avec toi dans ton lot. Et Siméon alla avec lui.
And Juda seide to Symeon, his brother, Stie thou with me in my lot, and fiyte thou ayens Cananei, that Y go with thee in thi lot.
4 Et Juda monta; et l’Éternel livra le Cananéen et le Phérézien en leur main; et ils les frappèrent à Bézek, 10 000 hommes:
And Symeon yede with hym; and Judas stiede. And the Lord bitook Cananey and Feresei in to `the hondis of hem, and thei killiden in Besech ten thousynde of men.
5 ils trouvèrent Adoni-Bézek à Bézek, et ils lui firent la guerre, et frappèrent le Cananéen et le Phérézien.
And thei founden Adonybozech in Besech, and thei fouyten ayens hym, and smytiden Cananei, and Feresey.
6 Et Adoni-Bézek s’enfuit; et ils le poursuivirent, et le saisirent, et lui coupèrent les pouces des mains et des pieds.
Forsothe Adonybozech fledde, whom thei pursueden, and token, and kittiden the endis of hise hondis and feet.
7 Et Adoni-Bézek dit: 70 rois, ayant les pouces de leurs mains et de leurs pieds coupés, ramassaient sous ma table; comme j’ai fait, ainsi Dieu m’a rendu. Et on l’amena à Jérusalem, et il y mourut.
And Adonybozech seide, Seuenti kyngis, whanne the endis of hondis and feet weren kit awey, gaderiden relifs of metis vndur my bord; as Y dide, so God hath yolde to me. And thei brouyten hym in to Jerusalem, and there he diede.
8 Et les fils de Juda avaient fait la guerre contre Jérusalem, et l’avaient prise, et ils l’avaient frappée par le tranchant de l’épée, et avaient livré la ville au feu.
Therfor the sones of Juda fouyten ayens Jerusalem, and token it, and smytiden bi the scharpnesse of swerd, and bitoken al the cytee to brennyng.
9 Et ensuite les fils de Juda descendirent pour faire la guerre au Cananéen qui habitait la montagne, et le midi et le pays plat.
And aftirward thei yeden doun, and fouyten ayens Cananey, that dwellide in the hilli places, and at the south, in `feeldi places.
10 Et Juda s’en alla contre le Cananéen qui habitait à Hébron (or le nom de Hébron était auparavant Kiriath-Arba), et ils frappèrent Shéshaï, et Akhiman, et Thalmaï.
And Judas yede ayens Cananei, that dwellide in Ebron, whos name was bi eld tyme Cariatharbe; and Judas killide Sisay, and Achyman, and Tholmai.
11 Et de là il s’en alla contre les habitants de Debir; or le nom de Debir était auparavant Kiriath-Sépher.
And fro thennus he yede forth, and yede to the dwelleris of Dabir, whos eld name was Cariathsepher, that is, the citee of lettris.
12 Et Caleb dit: À qui frappera Kiriath-Sépher et la prendra, je lui donnerai ma fille Acsa pour femme.
And Caleph seide, Y schal yyue Axa, my douyter, wijf to hym that schal smyte Cariathsepher, and schal waste it.
13 Et Othniel, fils de Kenaz, frère puîné de Caleb, la prit; et [Caleb] lui donna sa fille Acsa pour femme.
And whanne Othonyel, sone of Seneth, the lesse brother of Caleph, hadde take it, Caleph yaf Axa, his douyter, wijf to hym.
14 Et il arriva que, comme elle entrait, elle l’incita à demander à son père un champ. Et elle descendit de dessus l’âne; et Caleb lui dit: Qu’as-tu?
And hir hosebonde stiride hir, goynge in the weie, that sche schulde axe of hir fadir a feeld; and whanne sche hadde siyid, sittynge on the asse, Caleph seide to hir, What hast thou?
15 Et elle lui dit: Donne-moi une bénédiction; car tu m’as donné une terre du midi, donne-moi aussi des sources d’eau. Et Caleb lui donna les sources du haut et les sources du bas.
And sche answeride, Yiue thou blessyng to me, for thou hast youe a drye lond to me; yyue thou also a moyst lond with watris. And Caleph yaf to hir the moist lond aboue, and the moist lond bynethe.
16 Et les fils du Kénien, beau-père de Moïse, étaient montés de la ville des palmiers, avec les fils de Juda, au désert de Juda, qui est au midi d’Arad; et ils allèrent et habitèrent avec le peuple.

17 Et Juda s’en alla avec Siméon, son frère, et ils frappèrent le Cananéen qui habitait à Tsephath, et détruisirent entièrement la [ville]; et on appela la ville du nom de Horma.
Sotheli Judas yede with Symeon, his brother; and thei smytiden togidere Cananei, that dwellide in Sephar, and killiden hym; and the name of that citee was clepid Horma, that is, cursyng, `ether perfit distriyng, for thilke citee was distried outerly.
18 Et Juda prit Gaza et ses confins, et Askalon et ses confins, et Ékron et ses confins.
And Judas took Gaza with hise coostis, and Ascolon, and Accaron with hise termes.
19 Et l’Éternel fut avec Juda; et il prit possession de la montagne; car il ne déposséda pas les habitants de la vallée, parce qu’ils avaient des chars de fer.
And the Lord was with Judas, and he `hadde in possessioun the hilli places; and he myyte not do awey the dwelleris of the valei, for thei weren plenteuouse in `yrun charis, scharpe as sithis.
20 Et on donna Hébron à Caleb, comme Moïse l’avait dit, et il en déposséda les trois fils d’Anak.
And `the sones of Israel yauen Ebron to Caleph, as Moises hadde seid, which Caleph dide awei for it thre sones of Enach.
21 Et les fils de Benjamin ne dépossédèrent pas le Jébusien, habitant de Jérusalem; et le Jébusien a habité avec les fils de Benjamin à Jérusalem jusqu’à ce jour.
Forsothe the sones of Beniamyn diden not awei Jebusei, the dwellere of Jerusalem; and Jebusei dwellide with the sones of Beniamyn in Jerusalem `til in to present dai.
22 Et la maison de Joseph, eux aussi, montèrent à Béthel, et l’Éternel fut avec eux.
Also the hows of Joseph stiede in to Bethel, and the Lord was with hem.
23 Et la maison de Joseph fit reconnaître Béthel: le nom de la ville était auparavant Luz.
For whanne thei bisegiden the citee, that was clepid Lusa bifore,
24 Et les gardes virent un homme qui sortait de la ville, et ils lui dirent: Montre-nous, nous t’en prions, par où l’on entre dans la ville; et nous userons de bonté envers toi.
thei sien a man goynge out of the citee, and thei seiden to hym, Schewe thou to vs the entrynge of the cytee, and we schulen do mercy with thee.
25 Et il leur montra par où l’on entrait dans la ville; et ils frappèrent la ville par le tranchant de l’épée, mais ils laissèrent aller l’homme et toute sa famille.
And whanne he hadde schewid to hem, thei smytiden the citee bi scharpnes of swerd; sotheli thei delyueriden that man and al his kynrede.
26 Et l’homme s’en alla dans le pays des Héthiens, et bâtit une ville et l’appela du nom de Luz: c’est là son nom jusqu’à ce jour.
And he was delyuerede, and yede in to the lond of Sethym, and bildide there a citee, and clepid it Luzam; which is clepid so til in to present dai.
27 Et Manassé ne déposséda pas Beth-Shean et les villages de son ressort, ni Thaanac et les villages de son ressort, ni les habitants de Dor et des villages de son ressort, ni les habitants de Jibleam et des villages de son ressort, ni les habitants de Meguiddo et des villages de son ressort; et le Cananéen voulut habiter dans ce pays-là.
Also Manasses dide not awei Bethsan and Thanael with her townes, and the dwelleris of Endor, and Geblaam and Magedo with her townes; and Cananei bigan to dwelle with hem.
28 Et il arriva que, quand Israël fut devenu fort, il rendit le Cananéen tributaire; mais il ne le déposséda pas entièrement.
Sotheli after that Israel was coumfortid, he made hem tributaries, `ethir to paye tribute, and nolde do awey hem.
29 Et Éphraïm ne déposséda pas le Cananéen qui habitait à Guézer; mais le Cananéen a habité au milieu d’eux à Guézer.
Sotheli Effraym killide not Cananei that dwellyde in Gaser, but dwellide with hym.
30 Zabulon ne déposséda pas les habitants de Kitron, ni les habitants de Nahalol; mais le Cananéen a habité au milieu d’eux, et fut rendu tributaire.
Zabulon dide not awey the dwelleris of Cethron, and of Naalon; but Cananei dwellide in the myddis of hym, and was maad tributarie to him.
31 Aser ne déposséda pas les habitants d’Acco, ni les habitants de Sidon, ni Akhlab, ni Aczib, ni Helba, ni Aphik, ni Rehob;
Also Aser dide not awey the dwelleris of Acho, and of Sidon, of Alab, and of Azazib, and of Alba, and Aphech, and of Aloa, and of Pha, and of Roob; and he dwellide in the myddis of Cananey,
32 et l’Asérite a habité au milieu des Cananéens, habitants du pays, car il ne les déposséda pas.
dwellere of that lond, and killide not hym.
33 Nephthali ne déposséda pas les habitants de Beth-Shémesh, ni les habitants de Beth-Anath; et il a habité au milieu des Cananéens, habitants du pays; mais les habitants de Beth-Shémesh et de Beth-Anath lui devinrent tributaires.
Neptalym dide not awei the dwelleris of Bethsames, and of Bethanach; and he dwellide among Cananey, dwellere of the lond; and Bethsamytis and Bethanytis weren tributarie to hym.
34 Et les Amoréens repoussèrent dans la montagne les fils de Dan, car ils ne leur permirent pas de descendre dans la vallée.
And Ammorrey helde streit the sones of Dan in the hil, and yaf not place to hem to go doun to pleynere places;
35 Et l’Amoréen voulut habiter dans la montagne de Hérès, à Ajalon et à Shaalbim; mais la main de la maison de Joseph devint forte, et ils furent soumis au tribut.
and he dwellide in the hil of Hares, `which is interpretid, Witnessyng, in Hailon, and in Salabym. And the hond of the hows of Joseph was maad heuy, and he was maad tributarie to hym.
36 Et la frontière de l’Amoréen était depuis la montée d’Akrabbim, depuis le rocher, et en dessus.
And the terme of Ammorrei was fro the stiyng of Scorpioun, and the stoon, and hiyere places.
