Job 4
1 Et Éliphaz, le Thémanite, répondit et dit:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,
2 Si nous essayons de t’adresser une parole, en seras-tu irrité? Mais qui pourrait se retenir de parler?
If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieued? but who can withholde himselfe from speaking?
3 Voici, tu en as enseigné beaucoup, et tu as fortifié les mains languissantes;
Behold, thou hast taught many, and hast strengthened the wearie hands.
4 Tes paroles ont tenu droit celui qui chancelait, et tu as affermi les genoux qui ployaient;
Thy wordes haue confirmed him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the weake knees.
5 Mais maintenant [le malheur] est venu sur toi, et tu es irrité; il t’atteint, et tu es troublé.
But now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 Ta crainte [de Dieu] n’est-elle pas ta confiance, et l’intégrité de tes voies, ton espérance?
Is not this thy feare, thy confidence, thy pacience, and the vprightnesse of thy wayes?
7 Souviens-toi, je te prie, qui a péri étant innocent? et où les hommes droits ont-ils été détruits?
Remember, I pray thee: who euer perished, being an innocent? or where were the vpright destroyed?
8 Selon ce que j’ai vu, ceux qui labourent l’iniquité et qui sèment la misère, la moissonnent.
As I haue seene, they that plow iniquitie, and sowe wickednesse, reape the same.
9 Ils périssent par le souffle de Dieu, et sont consumés par le souffle de ses narines.
With the blast of God they perish, and with the breath of his nostrels are they cosumed.
10 Le rugissement du lion et la voix du [lion] rugissant [sont étouffés], et les dents des jeunes lions sont brisées;
The roaring of the Lion, and the voyce of the Lionesse, and the teeth of the Lions whelpes are broken.
11 Le lion fort périt faute de proie, et les petits de la lionne sont dispersés.
The Lyon perisheth for lacke of pray, and the Lyons whelpes are scattered abroade.
12 Une parole vint à moi secrètement, et mon oreille en saisit la susurration,
But a thing was brought to me secretly, and mine eare hath receiued a litle thereof.
13 Au milieu des pensées que font naître les visions de la nuit, quand un sommeil profond tombe sur les hommes;
In the thoughtes of ye visions of the night, when sleepe falleth on men,
14 La frayeur vint sur moi, et le frisson, et elle fit trembler la multitude de mes os;
Feare came vpon me, and dread which made all my bones to tremble.
15 Et un esprit passa devant moi: les cheveux de ma chair se dressèrent.
And the wind passed before me, and made the heares of my flesh to stande vp.
16 Il se tint là; je ne reconnus pas son apparence: une forme était devant mes yeux. J’entendis un léger murmure et une voix:
Then stoode one, and I knewe not his face: an image was before mine eyes, and in silence heard I a voyce, saying,
17 Un mortel sera-t-il plus juste que Dieu, l’homme sera-t-il plus pur que celui qui l’a fait?
Shall man be more iust then God? or shall a man be more pure then his maker?
18 Voici, il ne se fie pas à ses serviteurs, et ses anges il les charge de folie;
Beholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Seruants, and laid follie vpon his Angels.
19 Combien plus à ceux qui habitent dans des maisons d’argile dont le fondement est dans la poussière, qui sont écrasés comme la teigne!
Howe much more in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which shalbe destroyed before the moth?
20 Du matin au soir, ils sont frappés; ils périssent pour toujours sans qu’on y fasse attention.
They be destroyed from the morning vnto the euening: they perish for euer, without regarde.
21 Leurs cordes ne leur sont-elles pas arrachées? Ils meurent, et sans sagesse.
Doeth not their dignitie goe away with them? do they not die, and that without wisdom?
