Jérémie 7
1 La parole qui vint à Jérémie de par l’Éternel, disant:
The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Tiens-toi dans la porte de la maison de l’Éternel, et là, crie cette parole et dis: Écoutez la parole de l’Éternel, vous, tout Juda, qui entrez par ces portes pour vous prosterner devant l’Éternel.
Take your place in the doorway of the Lord's house, and give out this word there, and say, Give ear to the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who come inside these doors to give worship to the Lord.
3 Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Amendez vos voies et vos actions, et je vous ferai demeurer dans ce lieu.
The Lord of armies, the God of Israel, says, Let your ways and your doings be changed for the better and I will let you go on living in this place.
4 Ne mettez pas votre confiance en des paroles de mensonge, disant: C’est ici le temple de l’Éternel, le temple de l’Éternel, le temple de l’Éternel!
Put no faith in false words, saying, The Temple of the Lord, the Temple of the Lord, the Temple of the Lord, are these.
5 Mais si vous amendez réellement vos voies et vos actions, si vous faites réellement la justice entre un homme et son prochain,
For if your ways and your doings are truly changed for the better; if you truly give right decisions between a man and his neighbour;
6 si vous n’opprimez pas l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve, et que vous ne versiez pas le sang innocent dans ce lieu, et que vous ne marchiez pas après d’autres dieux pour votre dommage,
If you are not cruel to the man from a strange country, and to the child without a father, and to the widow, and do not put the upright to death in this place, or go after other gods, causing damage to yourselves:
7 je vous ferai demeurer dans ce lieu, dans le pays que j’ai donné à vos pères, de siècle en siècle.
Then I will let you go on living in this place, in the land which I gave to your fathers in the past and for ever.
8 Voici, vous vous confiez en des paroles de mensonge, qui ne profitent pas.
See, you put your faith in false words which are of no profit.
9 Quoi? voler, tuer, commettre adultère, jurer faussement, brûler de l’encens à Baal, marcher après d’autres dieux que vous ne connaissez pas!…
Will you take the goods of others, put men to death, and be untrue to your wives, and take false oaths, and have perfumes burned to the Baal, and go after other gods which are strange to you;
10 et vous venez, et vous vous tenez devant moi dans cette maison qui est appelée de mon nom, et vous dites: Nous sommes délivrés pour faire toutes ces abominations.
And come and take your place before me in this house, which is named by my name, and say, We have been made safe; so that you may do all these disgusting things?
11 Cette maison qui est appelée de mon nom, est-elle une caverne de voleurs à vos yeux? Moi aussi, voici, je l’ai vu, dit l’Éternel.
Has this house, which is named by my name, become a hole of thieves to you? Truly I, even I, have seen it, says the Lord.
12 Car allez à mon lieu qui était à Silo, où j’ai fait demeurer mon nom au commencement, et regardez ce que je lui ai fait, à cause de l’iniquité de mon peuple Israël.
But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I put my name at first, and see what I did to it because of the evil-doing of my people Israel.
13 Et maintenant, parce que vous avez fait toutes ces actions, dit l’Éternel, et que je vous ai parlé, me levant de bonne heure et parlant, et que vous n’avez pas écouté, et que je vous ai appelés et que vous n’avez pas répondu,
And now, because you have done all these works, says the Lord, and I sent my word to you, getting up early and sending, but you did not give ear; and my voice came to you, but you gave no answer:
14 je ferai à cette maison qui est appelée de mon nom, en laquelle vous avez mis votre confiance, et au lieu que je vous ai donné, à vous et à vos pères, comme j’ai fait à Silo;
For this reason I will do to the house which is named by my name, and in which you have put your faith, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
15 et je vous chasserai de devant ma face, comme j’ai chassé tous vos frères, toute la semence d’Éphraïm.
And I will send you away from before my face, as I have sent away all your brothers, even all the seed of Ephraim.
16 Et toi, ne prie pas pour ce peuple, et ne fais monter pour eux ni cri ni prière; et n’insiste pas auprès de moi, car je ne t’écouterai pas.
And as for you (Jeremiah), make no prayers for this people, send up no cry or prayer for them, make no request for them to me: for I will not give ear.
17 Ne vois-tu pas ce qu’ils font dans les villes de Juda, et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
18 Les fils ramassent le bois, et les pères allument le feu, et les femmes pétrissent la pâte pour faire des gâteaux à la reine des cieux, et pour répandre des libations à d’autres dieux, afin de me provoquer à colère.
The children go for wood, the fathers get the fire burning, the women are working the paste to make cakes for the queen of heaven, and drink offerings are drained out to other gods, moving me to wrath.
19 Est-ce moi qu’ils provoquent à colère? dit l’Éternel. N’est-ce pas eux-mêmes, à la honte de leur visage?
Are they moving me to wrath? says the Lord; are they not moving themselves to their shame?
20 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Voici, ma colère et ma fureur vont être versées sur ce lieu-ci, sur l’homme et sur la bête, sur l’arbre des champs et sur le fruit de la terre; et elles s’embraseront et ne s’éteindront pas.
So this is what the Lord God has said: See, my wrath and my passion will be let loose on this place, on man and beast, and on the trees of the field, and on the produce of the earth; it will be burning and will not be put out.
21 Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Ajoutez vos holocaustes à vos sacrifices, et mangez de la chair.
These are the words of the Lord of armies, the God of Israel: Put your burned offerings with your offerings of beasts, and take flesh for your food.
22 Car je n’ai point parlé avec vos pères, et je ne leur ai point commandé touchant des holocaustes et des sacrifices, au jour où je les fis sortir du pays d’Égypte.
For I said nothing to your fathers, and gave them no orders, on the day when I took them out of Egypt, about burned offerings or offerings of beasts:
23 Mais je leur ai commandé ceci, disant: Écoutez ma voix, et je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez mon peuple; et marchez dans toute la voie que je vous commande, afin que vous vous trouviez bien.
But this was the order I gave them, saying, Give ear to my voice, and I will be your God, and you will be my people: go in all the way ordered by me, so that all may be well for you.
24 Et ils n’écoutèrent pas et n’inclinèrent pas leur oreille; mais ils marchèrent dans les conseils, dans l’obstination de leur mauvais cœur, et ils sont allés en arrière et non en avant.
But they took no note and did not give ear, but were guided by the thoughts and the pride of their evil hearts, going back and not forward.
25 Depuis le jour où vos pères sortirent du pays d’Égypte, jusqu’à ce jour, je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs les prophètes, chaque jour me levant de bonne heure, et les envoyant.
From the day when your fathers came out of Egypt till this day, I have sent my servants the prophets to you, getting up early every day and sending them:
26 Mais ils ne m’ont point écouté, et ils n’ont point incliné leur oreille; et ils ont roidi leur cou, ils ont fait pis que leurs pères.
But still they took no note and would not give ear, but they made their necks stiff, doing worse than their fathers.
27 Et tu leur diras toutes ces paroles, mais ils ne t’écouteront pas; et tu crieras après eux, mais ils ne te répondront pas.
And you are to say all these words to them, but they will not give ear to you: you will send out your voice to them, but they will give no answer.
28 Et tu leur diras: C’est ici la nation qui n’a point écouté la voix de l’Éternel, son Dieu, et qui n’a point accepté la correction; la fidélité a péri, et est retranchée de leur bouche.
And you are to say to them, This is the nation which has not given ear to the voice of their God, or taken his teaching to heart: good faith is dead and is cut off from their mouths.
29 Coupe ta chevelure, et jette-la loin, et, sur les hauteurs, élève une complainte; car l’Éternel a rejeté et abandonné la génération de sa colère.
Let your hair be cut off, O Jerusalem, and let it go, and let a song of grief go up on the open hilltops; for the Lord is turned away from the generation of his wrath and has given them up.
30 Car les fils de Juda ont fait ce qui est mauvais à mes yeux, dit l’Éternel; ils ont mis leurs abominations dans la maison qui est appelée de mon nom, pour la rendre impure.
For the children of Judah have done what is evil in my eyes, says the Lord: they have put their disgusting images in the house which is named by my name, making it unclean.
31 Et ils ont bâti les hauts lieux de Topheth, qui est dans la vallée du fils de Hinnom, pour brûler au feu leurs fils et leurs filles, ce que je n’ai point commandé et qui ne m’est point monté au cœur.
And they have put up the high place of Topheth in the valley of the son of Hinnom, burning their sons and their daughters there in the fire; a thing which was not ordered by me and never came into my mind.
32 C’est pourquoi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, où l’on ne dira plus Topheth et la vallée du fils de Hinnom, mais la vallée de la tuerie; et on enterrera à Topheth, jusqu’à ce qu’il n’y ait plus de place.
For this cause, the days are coming, says the Lord, when it will no longer be named Topheth, or, The valley of the son of Hinnom, but, The valley of Death: for they will put the dead into the earth in Topheth till there is no more room.
33 Et les cadavres de ce peuple seront en pâture aux oiseaux des cieux et aux bêtes de la terre, et il n’y aura personne qui les effraie.
And the bodies of this people will be food for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth; and there will be no one to send them away.
34 Et je ferai cesser dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem la voix de l’allégresse et la voix de la joie, la voix de l’époux et la voix de l’épouse; car le pays deviendra un désert.
And in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, I will put an end to the laughing voices, the voice of joy and the voice of the newly-married man and the voice of the bride: for the land will become a waste.
