Jérémie 29

1 Et ce sont ici les paroles de la lettre que Jérémie le prophète envoya de Jérusalem au reste des anciens de la captivité, et aux sacrificateurs, et aux prophètes, et à tout le peuple que Nebucadnetsar avait transportés de Jérusalem à Babylone

And these [are] words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the remnant of the elders of the removal, and unto the priests, and unto the prophets, and unto all the people — whom Nebuchadnezzar removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,

2 (après que furent sortis de Jérusalem le roi Jéconias, et la reine, et les eunuques, les princes de Juda et de Jérusalem, et les charpentiers et les forgerons),

After the going forth of Jeconiah the king, and the mistress, and the officers, heads of Judah and Jerusalem, and the artificer, and the smith, from Jerusalem —

3 par la main d’Elhasça, fils de Shaphan, et de Guemaria, fils de Hilkija, que Sédécias, roi de Juda, envoyait à Babylone vers Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, disant:

By the hand of Eleasah son of Shaphan, and Gemariah son of Hilkijah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon — to Babylon, saying,

4 Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël, à tous les captifs que j’ai transportés de Jérusalem à Babylone:

'Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, to all the removal that I removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,

5 Bâtissez des maisons et habitez-y; plantez des jardins et mangez-en les fruits;

Build ye houses, and abide; and plant ye gardens, and eat their fruit;

6 prenez des femmes et engendrez des fils et des filles, et prenez des femmes pour vos fils, et donnez vos filles à des maris, et qu’elles enfantent des fils et des filles; et multipliez-vous là et ne diminuez pas.

Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take for your sons wives, and your daughters give to husbands, and they bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and ye are not few;

7 Et cherchez la paix de la ville où je vous ai transportés, et priez l’Éternel pour elle; car dans sa paix sera votre paix.

And seek the peace of the city whither I have removed you, and pray for it unto Jehovah, for in its peace ye have peace.

8 Car ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Que vos prophètes qui sont au milieu de vous, et vos devins, ne vous séduisent point, et n’écoutez pas vos songes que vous vous plaisez à songer;

'For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Let not your prophets who [are] in your midst, and your diviners, lift you up, nor hearken ye unto their dreams, that ye are causing [them] to dream;

9 car c’est avec mensonge qu’ils vous prophétisent en mon nom; je ne les ai pas envoyés, dit l’Éternel.

For with falsehood they are prophesying to you in My name; I have not sent them, an affirmation of Jehovah.

10 Car ainsi dit l’Éternel: Lorsque 70 ans seront accomplis pour Babylone, je vous visiterai, et j’accomplirai envers vous ma bonne parole, pour vous faire revenir en ce lieu.

'For thus said Jehovah, Surely at the fulness of Babylon — seventy years — I inspect you, and have established towards you My good word, to bring you back unto this place.

11 Car moi je connais les pensées que je pense à votre égard, dit l’Éternel, pensées de paix et non de mal, pour vous donner un avenir et une espérance.

For I have known the thoughts that I am thinking towards you — an affirmation of Jehovah; thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give to you posterity and hope.

12 Et vous m’invoquerez, et vous irez, et me supplierez, et je vous écouterai;

'And ye have called Me, and have gone, and have prayed unto Me, and I have hearkened unto you,

13 et vous me chercherez, et vous me trouverez, car vous me rechercherez de tout votre cœur,

And ye have sought Me, and have found, for ye seek Me with all your heart;

14 et je me ferai trouver à vous, dit l’Éternel; et je rétablirai vos captifs, et je vous rassemblerai d’entre toutes les nations et de tous les lieux où je vous aurai chassés, dit l’Éternel, et je vous ferai retourner au lieu d’où je vous ai transportés.

And I have been found of you — an affirmation of Jehovah; and I have turned back [to] your captivity, and have gathered you out of all the nations, and out of all the places whither I have driven you — an affirmation of Jehovah — and I have brought you back unto the place whence I removed you.

15 Si vous dites: L’Éternel nous a suscité des prophètes à Babylone!

'Because ye have said, Jehovah hath raised up to us prophets in Babylon,

16 Oui, ainsi dit l’Éternel touchant le roi qui est assis sur le trône de David, et touchant tout le peuple qui habite dans cette ville, vos frères qui ne sont pas allés avec vous en captivité; –

Surely thus said Jehovah concerning the king who is sitting on the throne of David, and concerning all the people that is dwelling in this city, your brethren who went not forth with you in the removal;

17 ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées: Voici, j’envoie contre eux l’épée, la famine, et la peste, et je les ferai devenir comme ces figues affreuses qu’on ne peut manger tant elles sont mauvaises.

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Lo, I am sending among them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and I have given them up as figs that [are] vile, that are not eaten for badness.

18 Et je les poursuivrai avec l’épée, avec la famine, et avec la peste; et je les livrerai pour être chassés çà et là par tous les royaumes de la terre, – [et] à l’exécration, et à la désolation, et au sifflement, et à l’opprobre, dans toutes les nations où je les chasserai;

And I have pursued after them with sword, with famine, and with pestilence, and have given them for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth, for a curse and for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for a reproach among all the nations whither I have driven them,

19 parce que, dit l’Éternel, ils n’ont point écouté mes paroles quand je leur ai envoyé mes serviteurs les prophètes, me levant de bonne heure et [les] envoyant; et vous n’avez point écouté, dit l’Éternel.

Because that they have not hearkened unto My words — an affirmation of Jehovah — that I sent unto them by My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, and ye hearkened not — an affirmation of Jehovah.

20 Mais vous, tous les captifs que j’ai renvoyés de Jérusalem à Babylone, écoutez la parole de l’Éternel!

'And ye, hear ye a word of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity that I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon,

21 Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël, touchant Achab, fils de Kolaïa, et touchant Sédécias, fils de Maascéïa, qui vous prophétisent le mensonge en mon nom: Voici, je les livre en la main de Nebucadretsar, roi de Babylone, et il les frappera devant vos yeux;

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, concerning Ahab son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you in My name falsehood: Lo, I am giving them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he hath smitten them before your eyes,

22 et on se servira d’eux comme d’une malédiction parmi tous les transportés de Juda qui sont à Babylone, disant: L’Éternel te rende comme Sédécias et Achab, que le roi de Babylone a grillés au feu, –

And taken from them hath been a reviling by all the removed of Judah that [are] in Babylon, saying, Jehovah doth set thee as Zedekiah, and as Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted with fire;

23 parce qu’ils ont commis l’infamie en Israël, et ont commis adultère avec les femmes de leur prochain, et ont dit en mon nom des paroles de mensonge que je ne leur avais pas commandées; et moi, je le sais, et j’en suis témoin, dit l’Éternel.

Because that they have done folly in Israel, and commit adultery with the wives of their neighbours, and speak a word in My name falsely that I have not commanded them, and I [am] He who knoweth and a witness — an affirmation of Jehovah.

24 Et parle à Shemahia, le Nékhélamite, disant:

'And unto Shemaiah the Nehelamite thou dost speak, saying,

25 Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël, disant: Parce que tu as envoyé en ton nom des lettres à tout le peuple qui est à Jérusalem, et à Sophonie, fils de Maascéïa, le sacrificateur, et à tous les sacrificateurs, disant:

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, saying, Because that thou hast sent in thy name letters unto all the people who [are] in Jerusalem, and unto Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, and unto all the priests, saying,

26 L’Éternel t’a établi sacrificateur à la place de Jehoïada, le sacrificateur, pour qu’il y ait des intendants dans la maison de l’Éternel pour tout homme qui fait l’inspiré et qui prophétise, afin que tu le mettes au bloc et au carcan;

Jehovah hath made thee priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, for there being inspectors of the house of Jehovah, for every one mad and making himself a prophet, and thou hast put him unto the torture and unto the stocks.

27 et maintenant, pourquoi n’as-tu pas repris Jérémie, l’Anathothite, qui vous prophétise?

And now, why hast thou not pushed against Jeremiah of Anathoth, who is making himself a prophet to you?

28 parce qu’il a envoyé vers nous à Babylone, disant: Ce sera long; bâtissez des maisons, et habitez-y; plantez des jardins, et mangez-en les fruits. –

Because that he hath sent unto us to Babylon, saying, It [is] long, build ye houses, and abide; and plant ye gardens, and eat their fruit.'

29 Et Sophonie le sacrificateur lut cette lettre aux oreilles de Jérémie le prophète.

And Zephaniah the priest readeth this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à Jérémie, disant:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying,

31 Fais savoir à tous ceux de la transportation, disant: Ainsi dit l’Éternel touchant Shemahia, le Nékhélamite: Parce que Shemahia vous a prophétisé, et que moi je ne l’ai pas envoyé, et qu’il vous a fait vous confier au mensonge;

'Send unto all the removal, saying, Thus said Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah prophesied to you, and I — I have not sent him, and he doth cause you to trust on falsehood,

32 à cause de cela, ainsi dit l’Éternel: Voici, je punirai Shemahia, le Nékhélamite, et sa semence; il n’aura pas un homme qui habite parmi ce peuple, et il ne verra point le bien que je fais à mon peuple, car il a parlé de révolte contre l’Éternel.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am seeing after Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and after his seed, he hath none dwelling in the midst of this people, nor doth he look on the good that I am doing to My people — an affirmation of Jehovah — for apostasy he hath spoken against Jehovah.'
