Jérémie 13
1 Ainsi m’a dit l’Éternel: Va, et achète-toi une ceinture de lin, et mets-la sur tes reins, et ne la trempe pas dans l’eau.
Thus, said Yahweh unto me, —Go and buy for thyself a linen girdle, and put upon thy loins, —but in water, shalt thou not place it.
2 Et j’achetai une ceinture, selon la parole de l’Éternel, et je la mis sur mes reins.
So I bought a girdle according to the word of Yahweh, —and put upon my loins.
3 Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi pour la seconde fois, disant:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me second time saying:
4 Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée, qui est sur tes reins, et lève-toi, va vers l’Euphrate, et là, cache-la dans le creux d’un rocher.
Take the girdle which thou hast bought which is upon thy loins, —and arise go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the cliff.
5 Et je m’en allai, et la cachai dans l’Euphrate, comme l’Éternel m’avait commandé.
So I went, and hid it, by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me.
6 Et il arriva, à la fin de plusieurs jours, que l’Éternel me dit: Lève-toi, va vers l’Euphrate, et prends de là la ceinture que je t’avais commandé d’y cacher.
And it came to pass, at the end of many days, —that Yahweh said unto me, —Arise go to the Euphrates, and take from thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.
7 Et je m’en allai vers l’Euphrate, et je creusai, et je pris la ceinture du lieu où je l’avais cachée; et voici, la ceinture était gâtée, elle n’était plus bonne à rien.
So I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hidden it, —and lo! the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing,
8 Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi, disant:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:
9 Ainsi dit l’Éternel: C’est ainsi que je détruirai l’orgueil de Juda, et le grand orgueil de Jérusalem.
Thus, saith Yahweh, —After this manner, will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
10 Ce peuple mauvais, qui refuse d’écouter mes paroles, qui marche dans l’obstination de son cœur, et qui marche après d’autres dieux pour les servir et pour se prosterner devant eux, sera comme cette ceinture qui n’est bonne à rien.
This wicked people who are refusing to hear my words, who are walking in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods, to serve them and to bow down to them, yea let them be like this girdle, which is good for nothing.
11 Car, comme une ceinture s’attache aux reins d’un homme, ainsi je me suis attaché toute la maison d’Israël et toute la maison de Juda, dit l’Éternel, pour être mon peuple, et un renom, et une louange, et un ornement; mais ils n’ont pas écouté.
For as a girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, so caused I to cleave unto me—the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah Declareth Yahweh, to become mine—For a people, and For a name, and For a praise and For an adorning, —but they hearkened not.
12 Et tu leur diras cette parole: Ainsi dit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël: Toute cruche sera remplie de vin. Et ils te diront: Ne savons-nous pas bien que toute cruche sera remplie de vin?
Therefore shalt thou say unto them this word—Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Every jar, is to be filled with wine; and they will say unto thee, Do we not, know well, that every jar, is to be filled with wine?
13 Et tu leur diras: Ainsi dit l’Éternel: Voici, je remplis d’ivresse tous les habitants de ce pays, et les rois [issus] de David, qui sont assis sur son trône, et les sacrificateurs, et les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem;
Then shalt thou say unto them—Thus, saith Yahweh—Behold me! filling all the inhabitants of this land Even the kings that are sitting for David upon his throne and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness;
14 et je les briserai l’un contre l’autre, et les pères et les fils ensemble, dit l’Éternel; je n’aurai pas de compassion, et je n’épargnerai pas, et je n’aurai pas de pitié pour ne pas les détruire.
and I will dash them every man against his brother even the fathers and the sons together, Declareth Yahweh, —I will not pity, Neither will I spare, Neither will I have compassion, that I should not destroy them.
15 Écoutez, et prêtez l’oreille! Ne vous élevez point, car l’Éternel a parlé!
Hear ye and give ear, be not haughty, —For Yahweh, hath spoken.
16 Donnez gloire à l’Éternel, votre Dieu, avant qu’il fasse venir des ténèbres, et avant que vos pieds se heurtent contre les montagnes du crépuscule: vous attendrez la lumière, et il en fera une ombre de mort et la réduira en obscurité profonde.
Give ye to Yahweh your God—glory, Before he cause darkness, and Before your feet stumble upon the twilight mountains; Lest, when ye wait for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, And change it for thick darkness.
17 Et si vous n’écoutez pas ceci, mon âme pleurera en secret à cause de votre orgueil, et mon œil pleurera amèrement et se fondra en larmes, car le troupeau de l’Éternel est allé en captivité.
But if ye will not hear it, In secret places, shall my soul weep Because of the pride, And mine eye, shall flow over, and run down with tears, Because captive hath been taken the flock of Yahweh.
18 Parle au roi et à la reine: Humiliez-vous, asseyez-vous [par terre]; car la couronne de votre magnificence est descendue de dessus vos têtes.
Say thou to the king and to the queen-mother, Abase yourselves—Sit down, —For descended have your Head-tires, your Crown of adornment.
19 Les villes du midi sont fermées, et il n’y a personne qui les ouvre; tout Juda est transporté, il est tout entier transporté.
The cities of the South, are shut And there is none to open, —Judah hath been carried away captive, She hath altogether been carried away captive in full number.
20 Levez vos yeux, et voyez ceux qui viennent du nord. Où est le troupeau qui t’a été donné, le troupeau de ta gloire?
Lift up your eyes and see Them who are coming in from the North, —Where is The flock that was given thee, Thy beautiful flock?
21 Que diras-tu quand il te punira? Toi-même tu les as enseignés à être princes et chefs sur toi. Les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles pas comme une femme qui enfante?
What wilt thou say when he shall bring punishment upon thee, Since, thou thyself, hast accustomed them to be over thee as friends in chief? Shall not, pangs, seize thee, as of a woman in childbirth?
22 Et si tu dis en ton cœur: Pourquoi me sont arrivées ces choses? C’est par la multitude de tes iniquités que les pans de ta robe ont été découverts, [et] que tes talons ont été violemment déchaussés.
But if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore have these things befallen me? For the greatness of thine iniquity have Thy skirts been turned aside Thy heels suffered violence!
23 L’Éthiopien peut-il changer sa peau, et le léopard ses taches? [Alors] aussi vous pourrez faire le bien, vous qui êtes instruits à faire le mal. –
Can the Ethiopian change, his skin, Or the leopard his spots? Even, ye, may be able to do right, Who are accustomed to do wrong.
24 Et je les disperserai comme le chaume qui s’en va par le vent du désert.
Therefore have I scattered them, As broken straw passing away, by the wind of the desert.
25 C’est là ton lot, ta portion mesurée de par moi, dit l’Éternel, parce que tu m’as oublié, et que tu t’es confiée au mensonge.
This is thy lot Thy measured portion from me, Declareth Yahweh; For that thou didst forget me, And confide in falsehood:
26 Et moi aussi, je relèverai tes pans sur ton visage, et ta honte se verra.
Therefore, even I myself, have drawn away thy skirts, over thy face, And thy shame hath been seen,
27 Tes adultères, tes hennissements, l’infamie de ta prostitution sur les collines, dans les champs, – tes abominations, je [les] ai vues. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! Ne te purifieras-tu pas, … après combien de temps encore?
Thine adulteries and thy neighings, thine unchaste wickedness, Upon the hills in the field, I have seen thine abominations! Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, Wilt thou not become pure? After how long yet?
