Isaïe 9
1 Toutefois l’obscurité ne sera pas selon que la détresse fut sur la terre, quand au commencement il pesa légèrement sur le pays de Zabulon et le pays de Nephthali, et plus tard s’appesantit [sur elle], … chemin de la mer, au-delà du Jourdain, Galilée des nations:
Drink this first. Act quickly, O land of Zabulon, land of Nephthalim, and the rest [inhabiting] the sea-coast, and [the land] beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.
2 le peuple qui marchait dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière; ceux qui habitaient dans le pays de l’ombre de la mort, … la lumière a resplendi sur eux!
O people walking in darkness, behold a great light: you that dwell in the region [and] shadow of death, a light shall shine upon you.
3 Tu as multiplié la nation, tu lui as accru la joie; ils se réjouissent devant toi, comme la joie à la moisson, comme on est transporté de joie quand on partage le butin.
The multitude of the people which you have brought down in your joy, they shall even rejoice before you as they that rejoice in harvest, and as they that divide the spoil.
4 Car tu as cassé le joug qui pesait sur elle, et la verge de son épaule, le bâton de son oppresseur, comme au jour de Madian.
Because the yoke that was laid upon them has been taken away, and the rod that was on their neck: for he has broken the rod of the exactors, as in the day of Madiam.
5 Car toute chaussure de guerre qu’on chausse pour le tumulte, et le manteau roulé dans le sang, seront un embrasement, la pâture du feu.
For they shall compensate for every garment that has been acquired by deceit, and [all] raiment with restitution; and they shall be willing, [even] if they were burnt with fire.
6 Car un enfant nous est né, un fils nous a été donné, et le gouvernement sera sur son épaule; et on appellera son nom: Merveilleux, Conseiller, Dieu fort, Père du siècle, Prince de paix.
For a child is born to us, and a son is given to us, whose government is upon his shoulder: and his name is called the Messenger of great counsel: for I will bring peace upon the princes, and health to him.
7 À l’accroissement de [son] empire, et à la paix, il n’y aura pas de fin, sur le trône de David et dans son royaume, pour l’établir et le soutenir en jugement et en justice, dès maintenant et à toujours. La jalousie de l’Éternel des armées fera cela.
His government shall be great, and of his peace there is no end: [it shall be] upon the throne of David, and [upon] his kingdom, to establish it, and to support [it] with judgement and with righteousness, from henceforth and forever. The seal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this.
8 Le Seigneur a envoyé une parole à Jacob, et elle tombe sur Israël;
The Lord has sent death upon Jacob, and it has come upon Israel.
9 et le peuple tout entier le saura, Éphraïm et celui qui habite la Samarie, qui disent avec orgueil et avec hauteur de cœur:
And all the people of Ephraim, and they that lived in Samaria shall know, who say in their pride and lofty heart,
10 Les briques sont tombées, nous bâtirons en pierres de taille; les sycomores ont été coupés, nous les remplacerons par des cèdres.
The bricks are fallen down, but come, let us hew stones, and cut down sycamores and cedars, and let us build for ourselves a tower.
11 Mais l’Éternel suscitera les adversaires de Retsin contre lui, et armera ses ennemis,
And God shall dash down them that rise up against him on mount Sion, and shall scatter his enemies;
12 les Syriens, à l’est, et les Philistins, à l’ouest; et ils dévoreront Israël à gueule ouverte. Pour tout cela, sa colère ne s’est pas détournée, et sa main est encore étendue.
[even] Syria from the rising of the sun, and the Greeks from the setting of the sun, who devour Israel with open mouth. For all this [his] anger is not turned away, but still [his] hand is exalted.
13 Mais le peuple ne retourne pas à celui qui le frappe, et ne recherche pas l’Éternel des armées.
But the people turned not until they were struck, and they sought not the Lord.
14 Et l’Éternel retranchera d’Israël la tête et la queue, la branche de palmier et le jonc, en un seul jour:
So the Lord took away from Israel the head and tail, great and small, in one day:
15 l’ancien et l’homme considéré, lui, est la tête; et le prophète qui enseigne le mensonge, lui, est la queue.
the old man, and them that respect persons, this is the head; and the prophet teaching unlawful things, he is the tail.
16 Car les conducteurs de ce peuple le fourvoient, et ceux qui sont conduits par eux périssent.
And they that pronounce this people blessed shall mislead them; and they mislead them that they may devour them.
17 C’est pourquoi le Seigneur ne se réjouira pas en leurs jeunes gens, et n’aura pas compassion de leurs orphelins et de leurs veuves; car tous ensemble, ce sont des profanes et des gens qui font le mal, et toute bouche profère l’impiété. Pour tout cela, sa colère ne s’est pas détournée, et sa main est encore étendue.
Therefore the Lord shall not take pleasure in their young men, neither shall he have pity on their orphans or on their widows: for they are all transgressors and wicked, and every mouth speaks unjustly. For all this [his] anger is not turned away, but [his] hand is yet exalted.
18 Car la méchanceté brûle comme un feu, elle dévore les ronces et les épines, et embrase les épaisseurs de la forêt, et roule et s’élève en colonne de fumée.
And iniquity shall burn as fire, and shall be devoured by fire as dry grass: and it shall burn in the thickets of the wood, and shall devour all that is round about the hills.
19 Par la fureur de l’Éternel des armées le pays est consumé, et le peuple est comme ce qui alimente le feu: l’un n’épargne pas l’autre.
The whole earth is set on fire because of the fierce anger of the Lord, and the people shall be as men burnt by fire: no man shall pity his brother.
20 Et on arrache à droite, et on a faim; et on dévore à gauche, et on n’est pas rassasié. Ils mangent chacun la chair de son bras:
But [one] shall turn aside to the right hand, for he shall be hungry; and shall eat on the left, and a man shall by no means be satisfied with eating the flesh of his own arm.
21 Manassé, Éphraïm, et Éphraïm, Manassé; [et] ceux-ci ensemble sont contre Juda. Pour tout cela, sa colère ne s’est pas détournée, et sa main est encore étendue.
For Manasses shall eat [the flesh] of Ephraim, and Ephraim [the flesh] of Manasses; for they shall besiege Juda together. For all this [his] anger is not turned away, but [his] hand is yet exalted.
