Isaïe 44
1 Et maintenant écoute, Jacob, mon serviteur, et toi, Israël, que j’ai choisi.
Now, then—hear, O Jacob, my Servant, —and Israel whom I have chosen:
2 Ainsi dit l’Éternel, qui t’a fait et formé dès la matrice, celui qui t’aide: Ne crains pas, mon serviteur Jacob, et toi, Jeshurun, que j’ai choisi.
Thus, saith Yahweh—Who made thee and formed thee from birth, Who helpeth thee: Do not fear O my Servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen;
3 Car je verserai de l’eau sur celui qui a soif, et des ruisseaux d’eau sur la terre sèche; je verserai mon Esprit sur ta semence, et ma bénédiction sur ceux qui sortent de toi;
For I will pour, Water upon the thirsty soil, and Floods upon the dry ground, —I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;
4 et ils germeront parmi l’herbe, comme les saules auprès des courants d’eau.
So will they spring up among the grass, As willows by the water-courses:
5 Celui-ci dira: Moi, je suis à l’Éternel; et celui-là s’appellera du nom de Jacob; et celui-là écrira de sa main: Je suis à l’Éternel, et se nommera du nom d’Israël.
This one, will say Yahweh’s, am I, and That one, will call himself by the name of Jacob, and Yonder one will write on his hand—Yahweh’s, And after the name of Israel, will one entitle himself.
6 Ainsi dit l’Éternel, le roi d’Israël, et son rédempteur, l’Éternel des armées: Je suis le premier, et je suis le dernier; et hors moi il n’y a pas de Dieu.
Thus saith Yahweh—King of Israel, Even his Redeemer, Yahweh of hosts, —I, am, First, and, I, Last, And besides me, there is no God.
7 Et qui, comme moi, appellera, – et qui le déclarera, et l’arrangera pour moi, depuis que j’ai établi le peuple ancien? Qu’ils leur déclarent les choses qui arriveront et celles qui viendront.
Who then, like me, can call, and declare it, and order it, for me, Seeing that I appointed an age-abiding people, —Or things yet to be, and that shall come to pass, Let them declare on their part.
8 N’ayez pas peur, et ne craignez pas. Ne te l’ai-je pas, dès ce temps-là, fait entendre et déclaré? et vous m’en êtes les témoins. Y a-t-il un Dieu hors moi? Il n’y a pas de rocher, je n’en connais point.
Do not ye dread, nor yet be alarmed, Have I not from olden time, told thee and declared? So that, ye, are my witnesses, —Whether there is a GOD besides me? Or is no Rock—I knew of none!
9 Ceux qui forment une image taillée sont tous un néant, et leurs choses désirables ne sont d’aucun profit; et ils en sont eux-mêmes les témoins: ils ne voient pas, et ils ne connaissent pas, afin qu’ils soient honteux.
The fashioners of an image—all of them, are emptiness, And, the things they delight in, cannot profit, —And, their, witnesses, they, neither see nor know, That they may be ashamed.
10 Qui a formé un dieu, ou fondu une image, qui n’est d’aucun profit?
Who hath fashioned a GOD, Oran image, hath molten? It cannot profit!
11 Voici, tous ses compagnons seront honteux, et les ouvriers ne sont que des hommes. Qu’ils s’assemblent tous, qu’ils se tiennent là! Qu’ils aient peur, qu’ils aient honte ensemble!
Lo! all his partners, turn pale, Even, the artificers themselves, are of the sons of earth, —Let them gather themselves together—all of them. Let them take their stand, Let them dread, and turn pale, together!
12 L’ouvrier en fer [a] un ciseau, et il travaille avec des charbons; il forme l’image avec des marteaux, et la travaille avec son bras vigoureux; mais il a faim et il n’a pas de force; il n’a pas bu d’eau, et il est las.
As for the smith, [with his] cutting-tool, —When he hath wrought in the live coals, And, with hammers, hath fashioned it, —And hath wrought it with his strong arm, Anon he is hungry, and hath no strength, He hath drunk no water and so hath become faint!
13 Le sculpteur en bois étend un cordeau; il trace sa forme avec de la craie rouge, il la fait avec des outils tranchants, et la trace avec un compas, et la fait selon la figure d’un homme, selon la beauté de l’homme, pour qu’elle demeure dans la maison.
As for the carpenter, —He hath stretched out a line hath drawn it with a pencil, Hath made it with carving tools, With compasses, hath rounded it, —And so hath made it after the figure of a great man, After the beauty of a son of earth, that it may remain in a house!
14 Il se coupe des cèdres, et il prend un rouvre et un chêne; il choisit parmi les arbres de la forêt. Il plante un pin, et la pluie le fait croître.
When one was cutting him down cedars, Then took he a holm-tree and an oak, And secured them for himself, among the trees of the forest, —He planted a fir-tree and the pouring rain made it grow;
15 Et un homme l’aura pour en faire du feu, et il en prend et s’en chauffe; il l’allume aussi, et cuit du pain; il en fait aussi un dieu, et l’adore; il en fait une image taillée, et se prosterne devant elle.
So it serveth for a man to burn, And he hath taken of the branches and warmed himself, Also he kindleth a fire, and baketh bread, —Also he maketh a GOD, and hath bowed himself down, Hath made of it a carved image, and adored it:
16 Il en brûle la moitié au feu; avec la moitié il mange de la chair, il cuit un rôti, et il est rassasié; il a chaud aussi, et dit: Ha, ha! je me chauffe, je vois le feu!
The half thereof, hath he burned in the fire, Over half thereof, he eateth flesh, He roasteth roast, that he may be satisfied, —Also he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen a blaze;
17 Et avec le reste il fait un dieu, son image taillée: il se prosterne devant elle et l’adore, et lui adresse sa prière, et dit: Délivre-moi, car tu es mon dieu.
And the residue thereof, Into a GOD, he maketh, Into his carved image, —Adoreth it, and boweth down and prayeth unto it, And saith Deliver me, for, my GOD, thou art!
18 Ils n’ont pas de connaissance et ne comprennent pas; car Il a couvert d’un enduit leurs yeux, en sorte qu’ils ne voient pas, [et] leurs cœurs, en sorte qu’ils ne comprennent pas. –
They have not taken note, neither can they perceive, —He hath besmeared—past seeing—their eyes, Past understanding, their hearts;
19 Et on ne rentre pas en soi-même, et il n’y a pas de connaissance, et il n’y a pas d’intelligence, pour dire: J’en ai brûlé la moitié au feu, et encore, j’ai cuit du pain sur ses charbons, j’ai rôti de la chair, et j’ai mangé; et de ce qui reste, en ferai-je une abomination? Me prosternerai-je devant ce qui provient d’un arbre?
And no one reflecteth—There is neither knowledge nor discernment—to say, Half thereof, have I burned up in the fire Moreover also I have baked, on the coals thereof, bread, I roasted flesh, and have been eating, —And of the remainder thereof, an abomination, shall I make? And, to a log of wood, shall I pay adoration?
20 Il se repaît de cendres; un cœur abusé l’a détourné; et il ne délivre pas son âme, et ne dit pas: N’ai-je pas un mensonge dans ma main droite?
He is feeding on ashes, A deluded heart, hath turned him aside, —And he cannot deliver his own soul nor say, Is there not a falsehood in my right hand?
21 Souviens-toi de ces choses, ô Jacob, et toi, Israël, car tu es mon serviteur. Je t’ai formé; tu es mon serviteur, Israël; tu ne seras pas oublié de moi.
Remember these things, O Jacob, And, Israel, —for, my Servant, thou art, —I have fashioned thee, a Servant of mine, thou art.
22 J’ai effacé comme un nuage épais tes transgressions, et comme une nuée tes péchés: reviens à moi, car je t’ai racheté. –
O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me, I have wiped out, As with a thick cloud, thy transgressions, And as with a broad cloud, thy sins, —Return unto me, for I have redeemed thee.
23 Exultez, cieux, car l’Éternel l’a fait; jetez des cris, vous, profondeurs de la terre; éclatez en chants de triomphe, montagnes, forêts, et tous les arbres qui y sont! Car l’Éternel a racheté Jacob, et s’est glorifié en Israël.
Shout in triumph ye heavens for Yahweh, hath effectually wrought. Shout, O ye underparts of the earth, Ring out, Ye mountains, into cries of triumph, Thou forest, and every tree therein, —For, Yahweh, hath redeemed, Jacob, And in Israel, will he get himself glory.
24 Ainsi dit l’Éternel, ton rédempteur, et celui qui t’a formé dès la matrice: C’est moi, l’Éternel, qui ai fait toutes choses, qui seul ai déployé les cieux, et qui, par moi-même, ai étendu la terre;
Thus, saith Yahweh Who hath redeemed thee, Who hath fashioned thee from birth, —I—Yahweh, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens, alone, Spreading forth the earth, of myself;
25 qui rends vains les signes des menteurs et qui trouble l’esprit des devins, qui fais retourner en arrière les sages et qui fais de leur connaissance une folie;
Frustrating the signs of praters, And, diviners, he confoundeth, —Turning wise men backwards, And their knowledge, he maketh folly;
26 qui confirme la parole de mon serviteur et accomplis le conseil de mes messagers; qui dis à Jérusalem: Tu seras habitée, et aux villes de Juda: Vous serez bâties, et je relèverai ses ruines;
Establishing the word of his Servant, And the counsel of his Messengers, he maketh good, —Who saith of Jerusalem—She shall be inhabited! And of the cities of Judah—They shall be built! And the ruins thereof, will I set up!
27 [moi] qui dis à l’abîme: Sois sec, et je dessécherai tes fleuves;
Who saith to the deep—Be dry and Thy rivers, will I drain!
28 qui dis de Cyrus: [Il est] mon berger, et il accomplira tout mon bon plaisir, disant à Jérusalem: Tu seras bâtie, et au temple: Tes fondements seront posés.
Who saith of Cyrus—My Shepherd! and All my pleasure, shall he make good Even saying of Jerusalem—She shall be built! And of the temple—Be her foundation laid!
