Aggée 2
1 Au septième [mois], le vingt et unième [jour] du mois, la parole de l’Éternel vint par Aggée le prophète, disant:
In the seventh month, on the twenty-first [day] of the month, the Lord spoke by Aggaeus the prophet, saying,
2 Parle à Zorobabel, fils de Shealthiel, gouverneur de Juda, et à Joshua, fils de Jotsadak, le grand sacrificateur, et au reste du peuple, disant:
Speak now to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, saying,
3 Qui est de reste parmi vous qui ait vu cette maison dans sa première gloire, et comment la voyez-vous maintenant? N’est-elle pas comme rien à vos yeux?
Who [is there] of you that saw this house in her former glory? and how do ye now look upon it, as it were nothing before your eyes?
4 Mais maintenant, sois fort, Zorobabel, dit l’Éternel, et sois fort, Joshua, fils de Jotsadak, grand sacrificateur, et soyez forts, vous, tout le peuple du pays, dit l’Éternel, et travaillez; car je suis avec vous, dit l’Éternel des armées.
Yet now be strong, O Zorobabel, saith the Lord; and strengthen thyself, O Jesus the high priest, the son of Josedec; and let all the people of the land strengthen themselves, saith the Lord, and work, for I am with you, saith the Lord Almighty;
5 La parole [selon laquelle] j’ai fait alliance avec vous, lorsque vous êtes sortis d’Égypte, et mon Esprit, demeurent au milieu de vous; ne craignez pas.
and my Spirit remains in the midst of you; be of good courage.
6 Car, ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées: Encore une fois, ce sera dans peu de temps, et j’ébranlerai les cieux et la terre, et la mer et la terre sèche;
For thus saith the Lord Almighty; Yet once I will shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];
7 et j’ébranlerai toutes les nations. Et l’objet du désir de toutes les nations viendra, et je remplirai cette maison de gloire, dit l’Éternel des armées.
and I will shake all nations, and the choice [portions] of all the nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord Almighty.
8 L’argent est à moi, et l’or est à moi, dit l’Éternel des armées:
Mine is the silver, and mine the gold, saith the Lord Almighty.
9 la dernière gloire de cette maison sera plus grande que la première, dit l’Éternel des armées, et dans ce lieu, je donnerai la paix, dit l’Éternel des armées.
For the glory of this house shall be great, the latter more than the former, saith the Lord Almighty: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord Almighty, even peace of soul for a possession to every one that builds, to raise up this temple.
10 Le vingt-quatrième [jour] du neuvième [mois], dans la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l’Éternel vint par Aggée le prophète, disant:
On the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Aggaeus the prophet, saying,
11 Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées: Interroge les sacrificateurs sur la loi, disant:
Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Inquire now of the priest [concerning] the law, saying,
12 Si un homme porte de la chair sainte dans le pan de sa robe, et qu’il touche avec le pan de sa robe du pain, ou quelque mets, ou du vin, ou de l’huile, ou quoi que ce soit qu’on mange, [ce qu’il a touché] sera-t-il sanctifié? Et les sacrificateurs répondirent et dirent: Non.
If a man should take holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and the skirt of his garment should touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
13 Et Aggée dit: Si un homme qui est impur par un corps [mort] touche quelqu’une de toutes ces choses, est-elle devenue impure? Et les sacrificateurs répondirent et dirent: Elle est impure.
And Aggaeus said, If a defiled person who is unclean by reason of a dead body, touch any of these, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered and said, It shall be defiled.
14 Et Aggée répondit et dit: Ainsi est ce peuple, et ainsi est cette nation devant moi, dit l’Éternel, et ainsi est toute l’œuvre de leurs mains, et ce qu’ils présentent là est impur.
And Aggaeus answered and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord; and so are all the works of their hands: and whosoever shall approach them, shall be defiled [because of their early burdens: they shall be pained because of their toils; and ye have hated him that reproved in the gates].
15 Et maintenant, considérez bien, je vous prie, [ce qui va arriver] dès ce jour et dorénavant: avant qu’on ait mis pierre sur pierre au temple de l’Éternel, –
And now consider, I pray you, from this day and beforetime, before they laid a stone on a stone in the temple of the Lord, what manner of men ye were.
16 avant que ces [jours] soient, si l’on venait à un tas de 20 [boisseaux], il y en avait dix; si l’on venait à la cuve pour puiser 50 mesures, il y en avait 20;
When ye cast into the corn-bin twenty measures of barley, and there were [only] ten measures of barley: and ye went to the vat to draw out fifty measures, and there were [but] twenty.
17 je vous ai frappés par la brûlure et la rouille et la grêle, [dans] toute l’œuvre de vos mains, et aucun de vous [n’est revenu] à moi, dit l’Éternel:
I smote you with barrenness, and with blasting, and all the works of your hands with hail; yet ye returned not to me, saith the Lord.
18 considérez-le bien, je vous prie, dès ce jour et dorénavant, depuis le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième [mois], depuis le jour où le temple de l’Éternel a été fondé; considérez-le bien.
Set your hearts now [to think] from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, even from the day when the foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid;
19 La semence est-elle encore dans le grenier? Même la vigne, et le figuier, et le grenadier, et l’olivier, n’ont pas porté de fruit. Dès ce jour-ci, je bénirai.
consider in your hearts, whether [this] shall be known on the corn-floor, and whether yet the vine, and the fig-tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-trees that bear no fruit [are with you]: from this day will I bless [you].
20 Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à Aggée, pour la seconde fois, le vingt-quatrième [jour] du mois, disant:
And the word of the Lord came the second time to Aggaeus the prophet, on the four and twentieth [day] of the month, saying,
21 Parle à Zorobabel, gouverneur de Juda, disant: J’ébranlerai les cieux et la terre,
Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Juda, saying, I shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];
22 je renverserai le trône des royaumes, et je détruirai la puissance des royaumes des nations, et je renverserai les chars et ceux qui les montent; et les chevaux seront abattus, et ceux qui les montent, chacun par l’épée de son frère.
and I will overthrow the thrones of kings, and I will destroy the power of the kings of the nations; and I will overthrow chariots and riders; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword striving against his brother.
23 En ce jour-là, dit l’Éternel des armées, je te prendrai, Zorobabel, fils de Shealthiel, mon serviteur, dit l’Éternel, et je te mettrai comme un cachet; car je t’ai choisi, dit l’Éternel des armées.
In that day, saith the Lord Almighty, I will take thee, O Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, my servant, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a seal: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord Almighty.
