Genèse 33
1 Et Jacob leva ses yeux, et regarda; et voici, Ésaü venait, et 400 hommes avec lui. Et il partagea les enfants entre Léa et Rachel et les deux servantes.
Iacob lyfte vp his eyes and sawe hys brother Esau come and with him. iiij. hundred men. And he deuyded the childern vnto Lea and vnto Rahel and vnto ye ij. maydens.
2 Et il mit à la tête les servantes et leurs enfants, et puis Léa et ses enfants, et puis Rachel et Joseph.
And he put the maydens ad their childern formest ad Lea and hir childern after and Rahel ad Ioseph hindermost.
3 Et il passa devant eux, et se prosterna en terre par sept fois, jusqu’à ce qu’il soit proche de son frère.
And he went before them and fell on the grownde, vij. tymes vntill he came vnto his brother.
4 Et Ésaü courut à sa rencontre, et l’embrassa, et se jeta à son cou, et lui donna un baiser; et ils pleurèrent.
Esau ranne agaynst him and enbraced hym and fell on his necke and kyssed him and they wepte.
5 Et il leva ses yeux, et vit les femmes et les enfants, et dit: Que te sont-ils, ceux-là? Et il dit: Ce sont les enfants que Dieu a donnés à ton serviteur.
And he lifte vp his eyes and sawe the wyves and their childern and sayde: what are these which thou there hast? And he sayde: they are the childern which God hath geuen thy seruaunte.
6 Et les servantes s’approchèrent, elles et leurs enfants, et se prosternèrent.
Than came the maydens forth ad dyd their obaysaunce.
7 Et Léa aussi s’approcha avec ses enfants, et ils se prosternèrent; et ensuite Joseph et Rachel s’approchèrent, et se prosternèrent.
Lea also and hir childern came and dyd their obaysaunce. And last of all came Ioseph and Rahel and dyd their obaysaunce.
8 Et il dit: Que veux-tu avec tout ce camp que j’ai rencontré? Et il dit: C’est pour trouver grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur.
And he sayde: what meanyst thou with all ye drooues which I mett. And he answered: to fynde grace in the syghte of my lorde.
9 Et Ésaü dit: J’ai [de tout] en abondance, mon frère; que ce qui est à toi soit à toi.
And Esau sayde: I haue ynough my brother kepe that thou hast vnto thy silf.
10 Et Jacob dit: Non, je te prie; si j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, prends mon présent de ma main, car c’est pour cela que j’ai vu ta face comme si j’avais vu la face de Dieu, et que tu m’as accueilli favorablement.
Iacob answered: oh nay but yf I haue founde grace in thy syghte receaue my preaset of my hade: for I haue sene thy face as though I had sene ye face of God: wherfore receaue me to grace
11 Prends, je te prie, mon présent qui t’a été amené; car Dieu a usé de grâce envers moi, et j’ai de tout. Et il le pressa, et il le prit.
and take my blessynge that I haue brought the for God hath geuen it me frely. And I haue ynough of all thynges. And so he compelled him to take it.
12 Et [Ésaü] dit: Partons et allons-nous-en, et je marcherai devant toi.
And he sayde: let us take oure iourney and goo and I will goo in thy copany.
13 Et [Jacob] lui dit: Mon seigneur sait que les enfants sont délicats, et que je suis chargé de menu et de gros bétail qui allaite; et si on les presse un seul jour, ils mourront – tout le troupeau.
And he sayde vnto him: my lorde knoweth that I haue tendre childern ewes and kyne with yonge vnder myne hande which yf men shulde ouerdryue but euen one daye the hole flocke wolde dye.
14 Que mon seigneur, je te prie, passe devant son serviteur; et moi je cheminerai tout doucement au pas de ce bétail qui est devant moi, et au pas des enfants, jusqu’à ce que j’arrive auprès de mon seigneur, à Séhir.
Let my lorde therfore goo before his servaunte and I will dryue fayre and softly accordynge as the catell that goth before me and the childern be able to endure: vntill I come to mi lorde vnto Seir.
15 Et Ésaü dit: Je te prie, que je laisse avec toi quelques-uns des gens qui sont avec moi. Et il dit: Pourquoi cela? Que je trouve grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur!
And Esau sayde: let me yet leaue some of my folke with the. And he sayde: what neadeth it? let me fynde grace in the syghte of my lorde
16 Et Ésaü s’en retourna ce jour-là, par son chemin, à Séhir.
So Esau went his waye agayne yt same daye vnto Seir.
17 Et Jacob s’en alla à Succoth, et bâtit une maison pour lui, et fit des cabanes pour son bétail: c’est pourquoi on appela le nom du lieu Succoth.
And Iacob toke his iourney toward Sucoth and bylt him an house and made boothes for his catell: wherof the name of the place is called Sucoth.
18 Et Jacob arriva en paix à la ville de Sichem, qui est dans le pays de Canaan, comme il venait de Paddan-Aram; et il campa en face de la ville.
And Iacob went to Salem to ye cytie of Sichem in the lande of Canaa after that he was come from Mesopotamia and pitched before the cyte
19 Et il acheta de la main des fils de Hamor, père de Sichem, pour 100 kesitas, la portion du champ où il avait dressé sa tente;
and bought a parcell of ground where he pitched his tent of the childern of Hemor Sichems father for an hundred lambes.
20 et il dressa là un autel et l’appela El-Élohé-Israël.
And he made there an aulter and there called vpon the myghtie God of Israell.
