1 Et Rachel vit qu’elle ne donnait pas d’enfants à Jacob, et Rachel fut jalouse de sa sœur, et dit à Jacob: Donne-moi des fils, sinon je meurs.
Forsothe Rachel seiy, that sche was vnfruytful, and hadde enuye to the sister, and seide to hir hosebonde, Yyue thou fre children to me, ellis Y schal die.
2 Et la colère de Jacob s’enflamma contre Rachel, et il dit: Suis-je à la place de Dieu, qui t’a refusé le fruit du ventre?
To whom Jacob was wrooth, and answerde, Wher Y am for God, which haue priued thee fro the fruyt of thi wombe?
3 Et elle dit: Voici ma servante Bilha: va vers elle; et elle enfantera sur mes genoux, et moi aussi j’aurai des enfants par elle.
And sche seide, Y haue `a seruauntesse Bala, entre thou to hir that she childe on my knees, and that Y haue sones of hir.
4 Et elle lui donna Bilha, sa servante, pour femme; et Jacob vint vers elle.
And sche yaf to hym Bala in to matrimony;
5 Et Bilha conçut, et enfanta un fils à Jacob.
and whanne the hosebonde hadde entrid to hir, sche conseyuede, and childide a sone.
6 Et Rachel dit: Dieu m’a fait justice, et il a aussi entendu ma voix, et m’a donné un fils; c’est pourquoi elle appela son nom Dan.
And Rachel seide, the Lord demede to me, and herde my preier, and yaf a sone to me; and therfor sche clepide his name Dan.
7 Et Bilha, servante de Rachel, conçut encore, et enfanta un second fils à Jacob.
And eft Bala conseyuede, and childide anothir sone,
8 Et Rachel dit: J’ai soutenu des luttes de Dieu avec ma sœur, aussi je l’ai emporté. Et elle appela son nom Nephthali.
for whom Rachel seide, The Lord hath maad me lijk to my sistir, and Y wexide strong; and sche clepide hym Neptalym.
9 Et Léa vit qu’elle avait cessé d’enfanter, et elle prit Zilpa, sa servante, et la donna pour femme à Jacob.
Lya feelide that sche ceesside to bere child, and sche yaf Selfa, hir handmayde, to the hosebonde.
10 Et Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un fils à Jacob.
And whanne Selfa aftir conseyuyng childide a sone, Lya seide, Blessidly;
11 Et Léa dit: La bonne fortune vient. Et elle appela son nom Gad.
and therfor sche clepide his name Gad.
12 Et Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un second fils à Jacob.
Also Selfa childide anothir sone,
13 Et Léa dit: Pour mon bonheur! car les filles me diront bienheureuse. Et elle appela son nom Aser.
and Lia seide, This is for my blis, for alle wymmen schulen seie me blessid; therfor sche clepide hym Aser.
14 Et Ruben sortit aux jours de la moisson du froment, et il trouva des mandragores dans les champs, et les apporta à Léa, sa mère. Et Rachel dit à Léa: Donne-moi, je te prie, des mandragores de ton fils.
Forsothe Ruben yede out in to the feeld in the tyme of wheete heruest, and foond mandragis, whiche he brouyte to Lya, his modir. And Rachel seide, Yyue thou to me a part of the mandragis of thi sone.
15 Et elle lui dit: Est-ce peu de chose que tu m’aies pris mon mari, et tu prends aussi les mandragores de mon fils! Et Rachel dit: Eh bien, il couchera avec toi cette nuit pour les mandragores de ton fils.
Lya answeride, Whether it semeth litil to thee, that thou hast rauyschid the hosebonde fro me, no but thou take also the mandragis of my sone? Rachel seide, The hosebonde sleepe with thee in this nyyt for the mandragis of thi sone.
16 Et Jacob vint des champs sur le soir, et Léa sortit à sa rencontre, et dit: C’est vers moi que tu viendras, car je t’ai loué pour les mandragores de mon fils. Et il coucha avec elle cette nuit-là.
And whanne Jacob cam ayen fro the feeld at euentid, Lya yede out in to his comyng, and seide, Thou shalt entre to me, for Y haue hired thee with hire for the mandragis of my sone. He slepte with hir in that nyyt;
17 Et Dieu entendit Léa, et elle conçut, et enfanta à Jacob un cinquième fils.
and God herde hir preiers, and sche conseyuede, and childide the fyuethe sone;
18 Et Léa dit: Dieu m’a donné mon salaire, parce que j’ai donné ma servante à mon mari. Et elle appela son nom Issacar.
and seide, God yaf meede to me, for Y yaf myn handmayde to myn hosebond; and sche clepide his name Isacar.
19 Et Léa conçut encore, et enfanta à Jacob un sixième fils.
Eft Lia conseyuede, and childide the sixte sone,
20 Et Léa dit: Dieu m’a fait un beau don; cette fois mon mari habitera avec moi, car je lui ai enfanté six fils. Et elle appela son nom Zabulon.
and seide, The Lord hath maad me riche with a good dower, also in this tyme myn hosebonde schal be with me, for Y childide sixe sones to hym; and therfore sche clepide his name Sabulon.
21 Et après, elle enfanta une fille, et appela son nom Dina.
Aftir whom sche childide a douyter, Dyna bi name.
22 Et Dieu se souvint de Rachel; et Dieu l’écouta et ouvrit sa matrice.
Also the Lord hadde mynde on Rachel, and herde hir, and openyde hir wombe.
23 Et elle conçut, et enfanta un fils, et dit: Dieu a ôté mon opprobre.
And sche conseyuede, and childide a sone, and seide, God hath take a wey my schenschipe; and sche clepid his name Joseph,
24 Et elle appela son nom Joseph, en disant: Que l’Éternel m’ajoute un autre fils!
and seide, The Lord yyue to me another sone.
25 Et il arriva, quand Rachel eut enfanté Joseph, que Jacob dit à Laban: Renvoie-moi, et j’irai dans mon lieu et dans mon pays.
Sotheli whanne Joseph was borun, Jacob seide to his wyues fadir, Delyuere thou me, that Y turne ayen in to my cuntrey and to my lond.
26 Donne-moi mes femmes pour lesquelles je t’ai servi, et mes enfants, et je m’en irai; car tu sais quel a été le service que je t’ai rendu.
Yyue thou to me my wyues and fre children for whiche Y seruede thee, that Y go; forsothe thou knowist the seruyce bi which Y seruede thee.
27 Et Laban lui dit: [Écoute], si au moins j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux! J’ai aperçu que l’Éternel m’a béni à cause de toi.
Laban seide to hym, Fynde Y grace in thi siyt, Y haue lerned bi experience that God blesside me for thee;
28 Et il dit: Fixe-moi ton salaire, et je te le donnerai.
ordeyne thou the meede which Y schal yyue to thee.
29 Et il lui dit: Tu sais comment je t’ai servi, et ce qu’est devenu ton troupeau avec moi;
And he answeride, Thou woost hou Y seruede thee, and hou greet thi possessioun was in myn hondis;
30 car ce que tu avais avant moi était peu de chose, et s’est accru et est devenu une multitude; et l’Éternel t’a béni depuis que je suis venu. Et maintenant, quand travaillerai-je, moi aussi, pour ma maison?
thou haddist litil bifore that Y cam to thee, and now thou art maad riche, and the Lord blesside thee at myn entryng; therfor it is iust that Y purueye sum tyme also to myn hows.
31 Et [Laban] dit: Que te donnerai-je? Et Jacob dit: Tu ne me donneras rien. Si tu veux faire ceci pour moi, je paîtrai encore ton bétail, [et] je le garderai:
And Laban seide, What schal Y yyue to thee? And Jacob seide, Y wole no thing but if thou doist that that Y axe, eft Y schal fede and kepe thi scheep.
32 je passerai aujourd’hui par tout ton bétail, j’en ôterai toute bête marquetée et tachetée, et tous les agneaux foncés, et ce qui est tacheté et marqueté parmi les chèvres; et ce sera là mon salaire.
Cumpasse thou alle thi flockis, and departe thou alle diuerse scheep and of spottid flees, and what euer thing schal be dun, and spottid, and dyuerse, as wel in scheep as in geet, it schal be my mede.
33 Et ma justice répondra pour moi désormais, quand elle viendra devant toi pour mon salaire; tout ce qui ne sera pas marqueté et tacheté parmi les chèvres, et foncé parmi les agneaux, auprès de moi, sera tenu pour volé.
And my riytfulnesse schal answere to me to morewe, whanne the tyme of couenaunt schal come bifor thee; and alle that ben not dyuerse and spottid and dunne, as well in sheep as in geet, schulen repreue me of thefte.
34 Et Laban dit: Voici, qu’il en soit selon ta parole.
And Laban seide, Y haue acceptable that that thou axist.
35 Et il ôta ce jour-là les boucs rayés et tachetés, et toutes les chèvres marquetées et tachetées, toutes celles qui avaient du blanc, et tout ce qui était foncé parmi les agneaux, et il les remit entre les mains de ses fils.
And he departide in that dai the geet, and scheep, geet buckis, and rammes, dyuerse and spottid. Sothely he bitook al the flok of o coloure, that is, of white and of blak flees in the hond of hise sones;
36 Et il mit trois journées de chemin entre lui et Jacob; et Jacob paissait le reste du bétail de Laban.
and he settide the space of weie of thre daies bitwixe hise sones and the hosebonde of hise douytris, that fedde othere flockis` of hym.
37 – Et Jacob prit des branches fraîches de peuplier blanc, de coudrier, et d’érable, et y pela des raies blanches, mettant à nu le blanc qui était aux branches.
Therfor Jacob took greene yerdis of popeleris, and of almoundis, and of planes, and in parti dide awei the rynde of tho, and whanne the ryndis weren `drawun a wei, whitnesse apperide in these that weren maad bare; sothely tho that weren hoole dwelliden grene, and bi this maner the coloure was maad dyuerse.
38 Et il plaça les branches, qu’il avait pelées, devant le bétail dans les auges, dans les abreuvoirs où le bétail venait boire; et le bétail entrait en chaleur lorsqu’il venait boire;
And Jacob puttide tho yerdis in the trowis, where the watir was held out, that whanne the flockis schulden come to drynke, thei schulden haue the yerdis bifor the iyen, and schulden conseyue in the siyt of the yerdis.
39 le bétail entrait en chaleur devant les branches, et il faisait des petits, rayés, marquetés, et tachetés.
And it was doon that in thilke heete of riding the sheep schulde biholde the yerdis, and that thei schulden brynge forth spotti beestis, and dyuerse, and bispreynt with dyuerse colour.
40 Et Jacob sépara les agneaux, et tourna la face du troupeau vers ce qui était rayé et tout ce qui était foncé dans le bétail de Laban; et il mit ses troupeaux à part, et ne les mit pas auprès du bétail de Laban.
And Jacob departide the floc, and puttide the yerdis in the trowis bifor the iyen of the rammys. Sotheli alle the white and blake weren Labans; sotheli the othere weren Jacobis; for the flockis weren departid bytwixe hem silf.
41 Et il arrivait que toutes les fois que les bêtes vigoureuses entraient en chaleur, Jacob mettait les branches dans les auges, devant les yeux du bétail, afin qu’elles entrent en chaleur en face des branches.
Therfor whanne the scheep weren ridun in the firste tyme, Jacob puttide the yerdis in the `trouyis of watir bifor the iyen of rammys and of scheep, that thei schulden conseyue in the siyt of tho yerdis.
42 Mais quand les bêtes étaient chétives, il ne les mettait pas; et les chétives étaient à Laban, et les vigoureuses à Jacob.
Forsothe whanne the late medlyng and the laste conseyuyng weren, Jacob puttide not tho yerdis; and tho that weren late, weren maad Labans, and tho that weren of the firste tyme weren Jacobis.
43 Et l’homme s’accrut extrêmement, et eut un bétail nombreux, et des servantes et des serviteurs, et des chameaux et des ânes.
And he was maad ful riche, and hadde many flockis, handmaydis, and seruauntis, camels, and assis.
