Genèse 26
1 Et il y eut une famine dans le pays, outre la première famine qui avait eu lieu aux jours d’Abraham; et Isaac s’en alla vers Abimélec, roi des Philistins, à Guérar.
Forsothe for hungur roos on the lond, aftir thilke bareynesse that bifelde in the daies of Abraham, Isaac yede forth to Abymelech, kyng of Palestyns, in Gerara.
2 Et l’Éternel lui apparut, et dit: Ne descends pas en Égypte; demeure dans le pays que je t’ai dit;
And the Lord apperide to hym, and seide, Go not doun in to Egipt, but reste thou in the lond which Y schal seie to thee,
3 séjourne dans ce pays-ci, et je serai avec toi, et je te bénirai; car à toi et à ta semence je donnerai tous ces pays, et j’accomplirai le serment que j’ai juré à Abraham, ton père,
and be thou a pilgrym ther ynne; and Y schal be with thee, and Y schal blesse thee; for Y schal yyue alle these cuntrees to thee and to thi seed, and Y schal fille the ooth which Y bihiyte to Abraham, thi fadir.
4 et je multiplierai ta semence comme les étoiles des cieux, et je donnerai tous ces pays à ta semence, et toutes les nations de la terre se béniront en ta semence,
And Y schal multiplie thi seed as the sterris of heuene, and Y schal yyue alle these thingis to thin eyris, and alle folkis of erthe schulen be blessid in thi seed, for Abraham obeide to my vois,
5 – parce qu’Abraham a écouté ma voix, et a gardé mon ordonnance, mes commandements, mes statuts et mes lois.
and kepte `my preceptis and comaundementis, and kepte cerymonyes and lawis.
6 Et Isaac habita à Guérar.
And so Ysaac dwellide in Geraris.
7 Et les hommes du lieu s’enquirent au sujet de sa femme, et il dit: C’est ma sœur, car il craignait de dire: ma femme; de peur, [pensait-il], que les hommes du lieu ne me tuent à cause de Rebecca, car elle est belle de visage.
And whanne he was axid of men of that place of his wijf, he answarde, Sche is my sistir; for he dredde to knowleche that sche was felouschipid to hym in matrymonye, and gesside lest peraduenture thei wolden sle him for the fairnesse of hir.
8 Et il arriva, comme son séjour dans ce [lieu] se prolongeait, qu’Abimélec, roi des Philistins, regarda par la fenêtre; et il vit, et voici, Isaac se jouait avec Rebecca sa femme.
And whanne ful many daies weren passid, and he dwellide there, Abymelech, kyng of Palestyns, bihelde bi a wyndow, and seiy hym pleiynge with Rebecca, his wijf.
9 Et Abimélec appela Isaac, et dit: Voici, assurément c’est ta femme; et comment as-tu dit: C’est ma sœur? Et Isaac lui dit: Parce que je disais: De peur que je ne meure à cause d’elle.
And whanne Isaac was clepid, the kyng seide, It is opyn, that sche is thi wijf; whi liedist thou, that sche was thi sistir? Isaac answerde, Y dredde, lest Y schulde die for hir.
10 Et Abimélec dit: Qu’est-ce que tu nous as fait? Car peu s’en est fallu que quelqu’un du peuple n’ait couché avec ta femme, et tu aurais fait venir la culpabilité sur nous.
And Abymelech seide, Whi hast thou disseyued vs? Sum man of the puple myyte do letcherie with thi wijf, and thou haddist brouyt in greuous synne on vs. And the kyng comaundide to al the puple,
11 Et Abimélec commanda à tout le peuple, disant: Celui qui touchera cet homme ou sa femme sera certainement mis à mort.
and seide, He that touchith the wijf of this man schal die bi deeth.
12 Et Isaac sema dans cette terre; et il recueillit cette année-là le centuple; et l’Éternel le bénit.
Forsothe Isaac sowide in that lond, and he foond an hundrid fold in that yeer; and the Lord blesside hym.
13 Et l’homme grandissait, et il allait grandissant de plus en plus, jusqu’à ce qu’il devint fort grand;
And the man was maad riche, and he yede profitynge and encreessynge til he was maad ful greet.
14 et il eut des troupeaux de menu bétail, et des troupeaux de gros bétail, et beaucoup de serviteurs; et les Philistins lui portèrent envie;
Also he hadde possessioun of scheep and grete beestis, and ful myche of meyne. For this thing Palestyns hadden enuye to hym,
15 et tous les puits que les serviteurs de son père avaient creusés aux jours d’Abraham, son père, les Philistins les bouchèrent et les remplirent de terre.
and thei stoppiden in that tyme and filliden with erthe alle the pittis whiche the seruauntis of Abraham his fadir hadden diggid,
16 Et Abimélec dit à Isaac: Va-t’en d’avec nous; car tu es beaucoup plus puissant que nous.
in so myche that Abymelech him silf seide to Ysaac, Go thou awei fro vs, for thou art maad greetly myytier than we.
17 Et Isaac partit de là, et campa dans la vallée de Guérar, et y habita.
And he yede awei, that he schulde come to the stronde of Gerare, and dwelle there.
18 Et Isaac recreusa les puits d’eau qu’on avait creusés aux jours d’Abraham, son père, et que les Philistins avaient bouchés après la mort d’Abraham; et il leur donna des noms selon les noms que son père leur avait donnés.
And he diggide eft other pittis, whiche the seruauntis of Abraham his fadir hadden diggid, and whiche the Filisteis hadden stoppid sumtyme, whanne Abraham was deed; and he clepide tho pittis bi the same names, bi whiche his fadir hadde clepid bifore.
19 Et les serviteurs d’Isaac creusèrent dans la vallée, et ils y trouvèrent un puits d’eau vive.
Thei diggiden in the stronde, and thei founden wellynge watir.
20 Et les bergers de Guérar contestèrent avec les bergers d’Isaac, disant: L’eau est à nous. Et il appela le nom du puits Ések, parce qu’ils s’étaient disputés avec lui.
But also strijf of scheepherdis of Gerare was there ayens the scheepherdis of Isaac, and thei seiden, The watir is oure; wherfor of that that bifelde he clepide the name of the pit fals chaleng.
21 Et ils creusèrent un autre puits, et ils contestèrent aussi pour celui-là; et il appela son nom Sitna.
And thei diggiden anothir, and thei stryueden also for that, and Ysaac clepide that pit enemytes.
22 Et il se transporta de là, et creusa un autre puits, et ils ne contestèrent pas pour celui-là; et il appela son nom Rehoboth, parce que, dit-il, l’Éternel nous a maintenant donné de l’espace, et nous fructifierons dans le pays.
And he yede forth fro thennus, and diggide another pit, for which thei stryueden not, therfor he clepid the name of that pit largenesse; and seide, Now God hath alargid vs, and hath maad to encreesse on erthe.
23 Et de là il monta à Beër-Shéba.
Forsothe he stiede fro that place in to Bersabee,
24 Et l’Éternel lui apparut cette nuit-là, et dit: Je suis le Dieu d’Abraham ton père; ne crains pas, car je suis avec toi; et je te bénirai, et je multiplierai ta semence, à cause d’Abraham, mon serviteur.
where the Lord God apperide to him in that nyyt; and seide, Y am God of Abraham, thi fadir; nyle thou drede, for Y am with thee, and Y schal blesse thee, and Y schal multiplie thi seed for my seruaunt Abraham.
25 Et il bâtit là un autel, et invoqua le nom de l’Éternel; et il y dressa sa tente; et les serviteurs d’Isaac y creusèrent un puits.
And so Ysaac bildide ther an auter to the Lord; and whanne the name of the Lord was inwardli clepid, he stretchide forth a tabernacle; and he comaundide hise seruauntis that thei schulden digge pittis.
26 Et Abimélec alla de Guérar vers lui, avec Akhuzzath, son ami, et Picol, chef de son armée.
And whanne Abymelech, and Ochosat, hise frendis, and Ficol, duk of knyytis, hadden come fro Geraris to that place,
27 Et Isaac leur dit: Pourquoi venez-vous vers moi, puisque vous me haïssez et que vous m’avez renvoyé d’auprès de vous?
Isaac spak to hem, What camen ye to me, a man whom ye hatiden, and puttiden awei fro you?
28 Et ils dirent: Nous avons vu clairement que l’Éternel est avec toi, et nous avons dit: Qu’il y ait donc un serment entre nous, entre nous et toi; et nous ferons une alliance avec toi:
Whiche answeriden, We seiyen that God is with thee, and therfor we seiden now, An ooth be bitwixe vs, and make we a couenaunt of pees,
29 que tu ne nous feras pas de mal, comme nous ne t’avons pas touché, et comme nous ne t’avons fait que du bien, et t’avons renvoyé en paix. Tu es maintenant le béni de l’Éternel.
that thou do not ony yuel to vs, as we touchiden `not ony thing of thine, nethir diden that that hirtide thee, but with pees we leften thee encressid bi the blessyng of the Lord.
30 Et il leur fit un festin, et ils mangèrent et burent.
Therfor Isaac made a feeste to hem; and after mete and drynk thei risen eerli,
31 Et ils se levèrent de bon matin, et se jurèrent l’un à l’autre; et Isaac les renvoya, et ils s’en allèrent d’avec lui en paix.
and sworen ech to other; and Isaac lefte hem peisibli in to her place.
32 Et il arriva, en ce jour-là, que les serviteurs d’Isaac vinrent, et l’avertirent au sujet du puits qu’ils avaient creusé, et lui dirent: Nous avons trouvé de l’eau.
Lo! forsothe in that dai the seruauntis of Ysaac camen, tellynge to him of the pit which thei hadden diggid, and seiden, We han foundun watir.
33 Et il l’appela Shéba; c’est pourquoi le nom de la ville a été Beër-Shéba, jusqu’à aujourd’hui.
Wherfor Ysaac clepide that pit abundaunce; and the name of the citee was set Bersabee til in to present dai.
34 Et Ésaü était âgé de 40 ans, et il prit pour femmes Judith, fille de Beéri, le Héthien, et Basmath, fille d’Élon, le Héthien;
Esau forsothe fourti yeer eld weddide twei wyues, Judith, the douytir of Beeri Ethei, and Bethsamath, the douyter of Elon, of the same place;
35 et elles furent une amertume d’esprit pour Isaac et pour Rebecca.
whiche bothe offendiden the soule of Isaac and of Rebecca.
