Ézéchiel 15

1 Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi, disant:

And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:

2 Fils d’homme, le bois de la vigne, que vaut-il plus que tout [autre] bois, le sarment qui est parmi les arbres de la forêt?

Son of man, What can the vine-tree be more than any other tree, —any branch which hath been found among the trees of the forest?

3 En prendra-t-on du bois pour en faire quelque ouvrage, ou en prendra-t-on une cheville pour y suspendre quelque ustensile?

Shall there be taken from it wood, to be made into any work? Or will men take therefrom a peg, to hang thereon any vessel?

4 Voici, on le met au feu pour être consumé; le feu en consume les deux bouts, et le milieu est brûlé. Serait-il propre à un ouvrage?

Lo! into the fire, it is given up for fuel, — The two ends thereof, doth the fire devour, And the middle thereof is charred, Is it fit for any work?

5 Voici, quand il était entier, on n’en a fait aucun ouvrage; combien moins, quand le feu l’aura consumé et qu’il sera brûlé, en fera-t-on encore un ouvrage.

Lo! while it was yet whole, it could not be made into any work, — how much less when! the fire hath devoured it. and it is charred, can it still be made into any work?

6 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Comme le bois de la vigne parmi les arbres de la forêt, que j’ai livré au feu pour être consumé, ainsi je livrerai les habitants de Jérusalem,

Therefore, Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, As a vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given up to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

7 et je mettrai ma face contre eux: ils sortiront d’un feu, et un [autre] feu les consumera; et vous saurez que je suis l’Éternel, quand j’aurai mis ma face contre eux.

Therefore will I set my face against them, Out of one fire, have they come forth But another fire, shall devour them, —So shall ye know that, I, am Yahweh, by my setting my face against them;

8 Et je ferai du pays une désolation, parce qu’ils ont commis le péché, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.

I will therefore give up the land as a desolation, —because they have committed treachery, Declareth My Lord., Yahweh.
