Ézéchiel 14

1 Et des hommes d’entre les anciens d’Israël vinrent vers moi, et s’assirent devant moi.

Then came there unto me certain men of the elders of Israel, and sat down before me.

2 Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi, disant:

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

3 Fils d’homme, ces hommes ont élevé leurs idoles dans leurs cœurs et ont placé devant leur face la pierre d’achoppement de leur iniquité. Serais-je consulté par eux?

Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity have they placed before their faces: shall I in any wise let myself be inquired of by them?

4 C’est pourquoi parle-leur, et dis-leur: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Quiconque, de la maison d’Israël, aura élevé ses idoles dans son cœur et aura placé devant sa face la pierre d’achoppement de son iniquité, et viendra vers le prophète, – moi, l’Éternel, je lui répondrai selon ceci, selon la multitude de ses idoles;

Therefore speak with them and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Whatever man it be of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and layeth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet: I the Lord will answer him, although he cometh with the multitude of his idols;

5 afin de prendre la maison d’Israël par leur propre cœur, car ils se sont tous séparés de moi par leurs idoles.

In order that I may grasp the house of Israel by their heart, those who are separated from me through all their idols.

6 C’est pourquoi, dis à la maison d’Israël: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Revenez, détournez-vous de vos idoles, et détournez vos faces de toutes vos abominations.

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Return, and cause [your heart] to turn away from your idols: and from all your abominations turn away your faces.

7 Car quiconque, de la maison d’Israël ou des étrangers qui séjournent en Israël, se sépare de moi, et élève ses idoles dans son cœur et place la pierre d’achoppement de son iniquité devant sa face, et viendra vers le prophète pour me consulter par lui, – moi, l’Éternel, je lui répondrai par moi-même;

For whatever man it be of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, that separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and layeth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and then cometh to the prophet to inquire through him of me: I the Lord will answer him through my word;

8 et je mettrai ma face contre cet homme et je le rendrai désolé de telle sorte qu’il sera en signe et en proverbe, et je le retrancherai du milieu de mon peuple; et vous saurez que je suis l’Éternel.

And I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment for a sign and for proverbs, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

9 Et si le prophète est séduit, et qu’il profère une parole, moi l’Éternel, j’ai séduit ce prophète; et j’étendrai ma main sur lui, et je le détruirai du milieu de mon peuple Israël.

And when the prophet suffereth himself to be deceived, and he speaketh a word: I the Lord have suffered that prophet to be deceived: and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

10 Et ils porteront leur iniquité: la peine de l’iniquité du prophète sera comme la peine de l’iniquité de celui qui consulte,

And they shall bear their guilt: as the guilt of the inquirer is, so shall the guilt of the prophet be;

11 afin que la maison d’Israël ne s’égare plus d’auprès de moi, et qu’ils ne se rendent plus impurs par toutes leurs transgressions. Et ils seront mon peuple, et moi je serai leur Dieu, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.

In order that the house of Israel may go no more astray by not following me, and not pollute themselves any more with all their transgressions; but that they may become unto me a people, and I may be unto them a God, saith the Lord Eternal.

12 Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi, disant:

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

13 Fils d’homme, si un pays pèche contre moi en commettant une infidélité, et que j’étende ma main sur lui, et que je lui brise le bâton du pain, et y envoie la famine, et retranche du milieu de lui les hommes et les bêtes,

Son of man, if a land should sin against me by trespassing grievously, and I stretch out my hand against it, and break unto it the staff of bread, and send out famine against it, and cut off from it man and beast;

14 et que ces trois hommes, Noé, Daniel et Job, soient au milieu de lui, ceux-ci délivreraient leurs âmes par leur justice, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.

And if there be these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, in the midst of it: these through their righteousness should save but their own soul; saith the Lord Eternal.

15 Si je fais passer les bêtes mauvaises par le pays, et qu’elles le dépeuplent, et qu’il soit devenu une désolation en sorte que personne n’y passe à cause de ces bêtes, –

If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they depopulate it, and it becometh desolate, without any one to pass through because of the beasts:

16 ces trois hommes seraient-ils au milieu de lui, je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, s’ils délivraient fils ou filles! eux seuls seraient délivrés, et le pays sera une désolation.

These three men [if they were] in it, as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, should not save either sons or daughters: they only should be saved, but the land should be made desolate.

17 Ou, [si] je fais venir l’épée sur ce pays-là, et que je dise: Épée, passe par le pays; et que je retranche du milieu de lui les hommes et les bêtes, –

Or, if I should bring a sword over that land, and say, The sword shall pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast;

18 ces trois hommes seraient-ils au milieu de lui, je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, ils ne délivreraient ni fils ni filles! mais eux seuls seraient délivrés.

And if these three men should be in it: as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, they should not save either sons or daughters, but they alone should be saved.

19 Ou, [si] j’envoie la peste sur ce pays-là, et que je verse ma fureur sur lui en [faisant couler le] sang, pour retrancher du milieu de lui les hommes et les bêtes, –

Or, if I should send out the pestilence against that land, and pour out my fury over it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast;

20 Noé, Daniel et Job, seraient-ils au milieu de lui, je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, s’ils délivraient fils ou filles! eux [seulement], par leur justice, délivreraient leurs âmes.

And if Noah, Daniel, and Job, should be in the midst of it: as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, they should not save either son or daughter; they through their righteousness should save their own soul.

21 Car ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Combien plus si j’envoie mes quatre jugements désastreux, l’épée, et la famine, et les bêtes mauvaises, et la peste, contre Jérusalem, pour en retrancher les hommes et les bêtes!

For thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Although I send my four dreadful means of punishment over Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the wild beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast:

22 Mais voici, il y aura en elle un reste réchappé de gens qui en sortiront, des fils et des filles; voici, ils sortiront vers vous, et vous verrez leur voie et leurs actions, et vous vous consolerez du mal que j’ai fait venir sur Jérusalem, de tout ce que j’ai fait venir sur elle.

Still, behold, there are left therein some that escape who shall be carried forth, both sons and daughters; behold, they are coming forth unto you, and ye will see their way and their doings; and then will ye be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, yea, concerning all that I have brought upon it;

23 Et ils vous consoleront, car vous verrez leur voie et leurs actions; et vous saurez que ce n’est pas sans raison que j’ai fait tout ce que j’ai fait en elle, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.

And they will comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings; and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have executed in it, saith the Lord Eternal.
