2 Samuel 5

1 Et toutes les tribus d’Israël vinrent vers David à Hébron, et parlèrent, disant: Voici, nous sommes ton os et ta chair.

Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spoke, saying, Behold us, thy bone and thy flesh are we;

2 Et autrefois, quand Saül était roi sur nous, c’était toi qui faisais sortir et qui faisais entrer Israël; et l’Éternel t’a dit: Tu paîtras mon peuple Israël, et tu seras prince sur Israël.

Already yesterday, and even before, when Saul was king over us, thou wast the one that led out and brought in Israel: And the Lord said to thee, Thou shalt indeed feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a chief over Israel.

3 Et tous les anciens d’Israël vinrent vers le roi à Hébron; et le roi David fit alliance avec eux à Hébron, devant l’Éternel; et ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël.

Thus came all the elders of Israel to the king unto Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord: and they anointed David as king over Israel.

4 David était âgé de 30 ans lorsqu’il devint roi; il régna 40 ans.

Thirty years was David old when he became king, [and] forty years he reigned.

5 Il régna à Hébron, sur Juda, sept ans et six mois; et, à Jérusalem, il régna 33 ans sur tout Israël et Juda.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

6 Et le roi alla avec ses hommes à Jérusalem contre les Jébusiens, habitants du pays; et ils parlèrent à David, disant: Tu n’entreras point ici; mais les aveugles et les boiteux te repousseront; – pour dire: David n’entrera pas ici.

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land; who said unto David, as followeth, Thou shalt not come in hither, except thou [first] remove away the blind and the lame: meaning, David cannot come in hither.

7 Mais David prit la forteresse de Sion: c’est la ville de David.

Nevertheless David captured the strong-hold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

8 Et David dit en ce jour-là: Quiconque frappera les Jébusiens et atteindra le canal, et les boiteux et les aveugles qui sont haïs de l’âme de David…! C’est pourquoi on dit: L’aveugle et le boiteux n’entreront pas dans la maison.

And David said on that day, Whosoever will smite the Jebusites, and reach the aqueduct and the lame and the blind, that are hateful to David's soul, —Wherefore people usually say, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

9 Et David habita dans la forteresse, et l’appela ville de David; et David bâtit tout autour, depuis Millo vers l’intérieur.

And David dwelt in the fort, and he called it “The City of David.” And David built [it] round about from the Millo and inward.

10 Et David allait grandissant de plus en plus; et l’Éternel, le Dieu des armées, était avec lui.

And David went on, and became greater and greater, and the Lord the God of hosts was with him.

11 Et Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya des messagers à David, et des bois de cèdre, et des charpentiers, et des tailleurs de pierres pour les murailles; et ils bâtirent une maison à David.

And Hiram the king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and carpenters, and stone-masons: and they built a house for David.

12 Et David connut que l’Éternel l’avait établi roi sur Israël, et qu’il avait élevé son royaume à cause de son peuple Israël.

And David felt conscious that the Lord has established him as king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

13 Et David prit encore des concubines et des femmes de Jérusalem, après qu’il fut venu de Hébron, et il naquit encore à David des fils et des filles.

And David took yet more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron; and there were born to David yet [more] sons and daughters.

14 Et ce sont ici les noms de ceux qui lui naquirent à Jérusalem: Shammua, et Shobab, et Nathan, et Salomon,

And these are the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem: Shammua', and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

15 et Jibkhar, et Élishua, et Népheg, et Japhia,

And Yibchar, and Elishua', and Nepheg, and Yaphia',

16 et Élishama, et Éliada, et Éliphéleth.

And Elishama', and Elyada', and Eliphelet.

17 Et les Philistins apprirent qu’on avait oint David pour roi sur Israël, et tous les Philistins montèrent pour chercher David; et David l’apprit, et descendit à la forteresse.

But when the Philistines heard that the people had anointed David as king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went down to the strong-hold.

18 Et les Philistins vinrent et se répandirent dans la vallée des Rephaïm.

The Philistines also came and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim.

19 Et David interrogea l’Éternel, disant: Monterai-je contre les Philistins? Les livreras-tu en ma main? Et l’Éternel dit à David: Monte, car certainement je livrerai les Philistins en ta main.

And David asked counsel of the Lord, saying, shall I go up against the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said unto David, Go up; for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into thy hand.

20 Et David vint à Baal-Peratsim; et là David les frappa, et il dit: L’Éternel a fait une brèche au milieu de mes ennemis devant moi, comme une brèche faite par les eaux; c’est pourquoi il appela le nom de ce lieu Baal-Peratsim.

And David came to Ba'al-perazim, and David smote them there, and said, The Lord hath broken down my enemies before me, as a breach [is made by] water. Wherefore he called the name of that place Ba'al-perazim.

21 Et ils laissèrent là leurs idoles, et David et ses hommes les emportèrent.

And they left behind there their idols, and David and his men burnt them.

22 Et les Philistins montèrent encore de nouveau, et se répandirent dans la vallée des Rephaïm.

And the Philistines came up once again, and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim.

23 Et David interrogea l’Éternel. Et il dit: Tu ne monteras pas; tourne-les par-derrière, et tu viendras contre eux vis-à-vis des mûriers;

And when David asked counsel of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but turn about and fall in the rear of them, and come upon them opposite to the mulberry-trees.

24 et aussitôt que tu entendras sur le sommet des mûriers un bruit de gens qui marchent, alors tu t’élanceras, car alors l’Éternel sera sorti devant toi pour frapper l’armée des Philistins.

And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of walking on the top of the mulberry-trees, that thou shalt then bestir thyself; for then will the Lord go out before thee, to smite in the camp of the Philistines.

25 Et David fit ainsi, comme l’Éternel lui avait commandé; et il frappa les Philistins depuis Guéba jusqu’à ce que tu viennes vers Guézer.

And David did so, as the Lord had commanded him; and he smote the Philistines from Geba' until thou comest to Gezer.
