2 Samuel 24

1 Et la colère de l’Éternel s’embrasa de nouveau contre Israël; et il incita David contre eux, disant: Va, dénombre Israël et Juda.

And the anger of Jehovah addeth to burn against Israel, and [an adversary] moveth David about them, saying, 'Go, number Israel and Judah.'

2 Et le roi dit à Joab, chef de l’armée, qui était avec lui: Parcours, je te prie, toutes les tribus d’Israël depuis Dan jusqu’à Beër-Shéba, et qu’on dénombre le peuple, afin que je sache le nombre du peuple.

And the king saith unto Joab, head of the host that [is] with him, 'Go to and fro, I pray thee, through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and inspect ye the people — and I have known the number of the people.'

3 Et Joab dit au roi: Que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, ajoute au peuple 100 fois autant qu’il y en a, et que les yeux du roi, mon seigneur, le voient! Mais pourquoi le roi, mon seigneur, prend-il plaisir à cela?

And Joab saith unto the king, 'Yea, Jehovah thy God doth add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?'

4 Mais la parole du roi prévalut sur Joab, et sur les chefs de l’armée; et Joab et les chefs de l’armée sortirent de devant le roi pour dénombrer le peuple, Israël.

And the word of the king is severe towards Joab, and against the heads of the force, and Joab goeth out, and the heads of the force, [from] before the king to inspect the people, even Israel;

5 Et ils passèrent le Jourdain et campèrent à Aroër, à droite de la ville qui est au milieu du torrent de Gad, et vers Jahzer.

and they pass over the Jordan, and encamp in Aroer, on the right of the city that [is] in the midst of the brook of Gad, and unto Jazer,

6 Et ils vinrent en Galaad, et dans le bas pays de Hodshi, et vinrent à Dan-Jaan, et dans les environs de Sidon.

and they come in to Gilead, and unto the land of Tahtim-Hodshi, and they come in to Dan-Jaan, and round about unto Zidon,

7 Et ils vinrent à la ville forte de Tyr, et dans toutes les villes des Héviens et des Cananéens, et sortirent au midi de Juda, à Beër-Shéba.

and they come in to the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivite, and of the Canaanite, and go out unto the south of Judah, to Beer-Sheba.

8 Et ils parcoururent tout le pays, et revinrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et 20 jours.

And they go to and fro through all the land, and come in at the end of nine months and twenty days to Jerusalem,

9 Et Joab donna au roi le chiffre du recensement du peuple; et il y avait d’Israël 800 000 hommes de guerre tirant l’épée, et des hommes de Juda, 500 000 hommes.

and Joab giveth the account of the inspection of the people unto the king, and Israel is eight hundred thousand men of valour, drawing sword, and the men of Judah five hundred thousand men.

10 Et le cœur de David le reprit, après qu’il eut dénombré le peuple; et David dit à l’Éternel: J’ai grandement péché dans ce que j’ai fait; et maintenant, ô Éternel, fais passer, je te prie, l’iniquité de ton serviteur, car j’ai agi très follement.

And the heart of David smiteth him, after that he hath numbered the people, and David saith unto Jehovah, 'I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Jehovah, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

11 Et le matin, quand David se leva, la parole de l’Éternel vint à Gad, le prophète, le voyant de David, disant:

And David riseth in the morning, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying,

12 Va, et parle à David: Ainsi dit l’Éternel: Je t’impose [l’une de ces] trois choses; choisis-en une, et je te la ferai.

'Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, Thus said Jehovah: Three — I am lifting up for thee, choose thee one of them, and I do [it] to thee.'

13 Et Gad vint vers David, et lui rapporta [cela], et lui dit: La famine viendra-t-elle sur toi sept ans dans ton pays; ou veux-tu fuir trois mois devant tes ennemis, et qu’ils te poursuivent; ou y aura-t-il trois jours de peste dans ton pays? Sache maintenant, et vois quelle parole je rapporterai à celui qui m’a envoyé.

And Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, 'Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary — and he pursuing thee? or are three days' pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.'

14 Et David dit à Gad: Je suis dans une grande détresse. Que nous tombions, je te prie, dans les mains de l’Éternel, car ses compassions sont grandes; et que je ne tombe point dans la main des hommes.

And David saith unto Gad, 'I have great distress, let us fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for many [are] His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'

15 Et l’Éternel envoya la peste en Israël depuis le matin jusqu’au temps assigné; et il mourut du peuple, depuis Dan jusqu’à Beër-Shéba, 70 000 hommes.

And Jehovah giveth a pestilence on Israel from the morning even unto the time appointed, and there die of the people, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, seventy thousand men,

16 Et l’ange étendit sa main sur Jérusalem pour la détruire; et l’Éternel se repentit de ce mal, et dit à l’ange qui détruisait parmi le peuple: Assez! Retire maintenant ta main. Or l’ange de l’Éternel était près de l’aire d’Arauna, le Jébusien.

and the messenger putteth forth his hand to Jerusalem to destroy it, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who is destroying among the people, 'Enough, now, cease thy hand;' and the messenger of Jehovah was near the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

17 Et David, quand il vit l’ange qui frappait parmi le peuple, parla à l’Éternel, et dit: Voici, moi j’ai péché, et moi j’ai commis l’iniquité; mais ces brebis, qu’ont-elles fait? Que ta main, je te prie, soit sur moi et sur la maison de mon père.

And David speaketh unto Jehovah, when he seeth the messenger who is smiting among the people, and saith, 'Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these — the flock — what have they done? Let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father.'

18 Et Gad vint vers David, ce jour-là, et lui dit: Monte, dresse un autel à l’Éternel dans l’aire d’Arauna, le Jébusien.

And Gad cometh in unto David on that day, and saith to him, 'Go up, raise to Jehovah an altar in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite;'

19 Et David monta selon la parole de Gad, comme l’Éternel l’avait commandé.

and David goeth up, according to the word of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.

20 Et Arauna regarda, et il vit le roi et ses serviteurs qui passaient vers lui; et Arauna sortit, et se prosterna devant le roi, le visage contre terre.

And Araunah looketh, and seeth the king and his servants passing over unto him, and Araunah goeth out and boweth himself to the king — his face to the earth.

21 Et Arauna dit: Pourquoi le roi, mon seigneur, vient-il vers son serviteur? Et David dit: Pour acheter de toi l’aire, pour bâtir un autel à l’Éternel, afin que la plaie soit arrêtée de dessus le peuple.

And Araunah saith, 'Wherefore hath my lord the king come unto his servant?' and David saith, 'To buy from thee the threshing-floor, to build an altar to Jehovah, and the plague is restrained from the people.'

22 Et Arauna dit à David: Que le roi, mon seigneur, prenne et offre ce qui est bon à ses yeux. Vois, les bœufs seront pour l’holocauste, et les traîneaux à fouler et l’attirail des bœufs, pour le bois.

And Araunah saith unto David, 'Let my lord the king take and cause to ascend that which is good in his eyes; see, the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood;'

23 Tout cela, ô roi! Arauna le donne au roi. Et Arauna dit au roi: L’Éternel, ton Dieu, veuille t’avoir pour agréable!

the whole hath Araunah given, [as] a king to a king; and Araunah saith unto the king, 'Jehovah thy God doth accept thee.'

24 Et le roi dit à Arauna: Non, car certainement j’ achèterai de toi pour un prix, et je n’offrirai pas à l’Éternel, mon Dieu, des holocaustes qui ne coûtent rien. Et David acheta l’aire et les bœufs pour 50 sicles d’argent.

And the king saith unto Araunah, 'Nay, for I do surely buy from thee for a price, and I do not cause to ascend to Jehovah my God burnt-offerings for nought;' and David buyeth the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver,

25 Et David bâtit là un autel à l’Éternel, et offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices de prospérités. Et l’Éternel fut propice au pays; et la plaie fut arrêtée de dessus Israël.

and David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and Jehovah is entreated for the land, and the plague is restrained from Israel.
