2 Samuel 20

1 Et il se rencontra là un homme de Bélial, son nom était Shéba, fils de Bicri, Benjaminite; et il sonna de la trompette, et dit: Nous n’avons point de part en David, ni d’héritage dans le fils d’Isaï. Chacun à sa tente, Israël!

Then there was come thither a wicked man (named Sheba the sonne of Bichri, a man of Iemini) and hee blew the trumpet, and saide, Wee haue no part in Dauid, neither haue we inheritance in the sonne of Ishai: euery man to his tents, O Israel.

2 Et tous les hommes d’Israël, se séparant de David, suivirent Shéba, fils de Bicri; mais les hommes de Juda s’attachèrent à leur roi, depuis le Jourdain jusqu’à Jérusalem.

So euery man of Israel went from Dauid and followed Sheba the sonne of Bichri: but the men of Iudah claue fast vnto their King, from Iorden euen to Ierusalem.

3 Et David vint dans sa maison à Jérusalem. Et le roi prit les dix femmes concubines qu’il avait laissées pour garder la maison, et les mit dans une maison où elles étaient gardées, et les entretint; mais il n’entra pas vers elles; et elles furent enfermées jusqu’au jour de leur mort, vivant dans le veuvage.

When Dauid then came to his house to Ierusalem, the King tooke the ten women his concubines, that hee had left behinde him to keepe the house, and put them in warde, and fed them, but lay no more with them: but they were enclosed vnto the day of their death, liuing in widowhode.

4 Et le roi dit à Amasa: Rassemble-moi en trois jours les hommes de Juda; et toi, sois présent ici.

Then sayde the King to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Iudah within three dayes, and be thou here present.

5 Et Amasa s’en alla pour rassembler Juda; mais il tarda au-delà du terme qui lui était assigné.

So Amasa went to assemble Iudah, but hee taried longer then the time which he had appoynted him.

6 Et David dit à Abishaï: Maintenant Shéba, fils de Bicri, nous fera plus de mal qu’Absalom. Toi, prends les serviteurs de ton seigneur, et poursuis-le, de peur qu’il ne trouve des villes fortes, et qu’il ne se dérobe à nos yeux.

Then Dauid sayd to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the sonne of Bichri doe vs more harme then did Absalom: take thou therefore thy lords seruants and follow after him, lest he get him walled cities, and escape vs.

7 Et les hommes de Joab sortirent après lui, et les Keréthiens, et les Peléthiens, et tous les hommes forts; et ils sortirent de Jérusalem pour poursuivre Shéba, fils de Bicri.

And there went out after him Ioabs men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mightie men: and they departed out of Ierusalem, to follow after Sheba the sonne of Bichri.

8 Ils étaient près de la grande pierre qui est à Gabaon, qu’Amasa arriva devant eux. Et Joab était ceint de la casaque dont il était vêtu, et, par-dessus, il avait le ceinturon de l’épée attachée sur ses reins dans son fourreau; et comme il s’avançait, elle tomba.

When they were at the great stone, which is in Gibeon, Amasa went before them, and Ioabs garment, that hee had put on, was girded vnto him, and vpon it was a sword girded, which hanged on his loynes in the sheath, and as hee went, it vsed to fall out.

9 Et Joab dit à Amasa: Te portes-tu bien, mon frère? Et Joab de sa main droite saisit la barbe d’Amasa, pour l’embrasser.

And Ioab sayde to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? and Ioab tooke Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kisse him.

10 Et Amasa ne prenait pas garde à l’épée qui était dans la main de Joab; et [Joab] l’en frappa dans le ventre, et répandit ses entrailles à terre, sans le [frapper] une seconde fois; et il mourut. Et Joab, et Abishaï, son frère, poursuivirent Shéba, fils de Bicri.

But Amasa tooke no heede to the sworde that was in Ioabs hande: for therewith he smote him in the fift rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and smote him not the second time: so he dyed. then Ioab and Abishai his brother followed after Sheba the sonne of Bichri.

11 Et l’un des jeunes hommes de Joab se tint près d’Amasa, et dit: Quiconque prend plaisir en Joab et quiconque est pour David, qu’il suive Joab!

And one of Ioabs men stoode by him, and saide, He that fauoureth Ioab, and hee that is of Dauids part, let him go after Ioab.

12 Et Amasa se roulait dans son sang, au milieu de la route; et quand cet homme vit que tout le peuple s’arrêtait, il tira Amasa hors de la route dans un champ, et jeta un vêtement sur lui, quand il vit que tous ceux qui arrivaient près de lui s’arrêtaient.

And Amasa wallowed in blood in the mids of the way: and when the man sawe that all the people stood still, he remooued Amasa out of the way into the fielde, and cast a cloth vpon him, because he saw that euery one that came by him, stoode still.

13 Quand il fut ôté de la route, tous les hommes passèrent outre après Joab, afin de poursuivre Shéba, fils de Bicri.

When hee was remoued out of the way, euerie man went after Ioab, to follow after Sheba the sonne of Bichri.

14 Et [celui-ci] passa par toutes les tribus d’Israël, jusqu’à Abel et Beth-Maaca, et tout Bérim; et ils se rassemblèrent, et le suivirent aussi.

And he went through all the tribes of Israel vnto Abel, and Bethmaachah and all places of Berim: and they gathered together, and went also after him.

15 Et ils vinrent et assiégèrent [Shéba] dans Abel-Beth-Maaca, et ils élevèrent contre la ville une terrasse, et elle se dressait contre l’avant-mur; et tout le peuple qui était avec Joab sapait pour faire tomber la muraille.

So they came, and besieged him in Abel, neere to Bethmaachah: and they cast vp a mount against the citie, and the people thereof stood on the ramper, and al the people that was with Ioab, destroyed and cast downe the wall.

16 Et une femme sage cria de la ville: Écoutez, écoutez! Dites, je vous prie, à Joab: Approche jusqu’ici, et je te parlerai.

Then cried a wise woman out of the citie, Heare, heare, I pray you, say vnto Ioab, Come thou hither, that I may speake with thee.

17 Et il s’approcha d’elle. Et la femme dit: Es-tu Joab? Et il dit: C’est moi. Et elle lui dit: Écoute les paroles de ta servante. Et il dit: J’écoute.

And when hee came neere vnto her, the woman said, Art thou Ioab? And he answered, Yea. And she said to him, Heare the wordes of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do heare.

18 Et elle parla et dit: On avait coutume autrefois de parler, disant: Demandez seulement à Abel, et ainsi on en finissait.

Then shee spake thus, They spake in the olde time, saying, They shoulde aske of Abel. and so haue they continued.

19 Moi, je suis paisible [et] fidèle en Israël; toi, tu cherches à faire périr une ville et une mère en Israël; pourquoi veux-tu engloutir l’héritage de l’Éternel?

I am one of them, that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: and thou goest about to destroy a citie, and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou deuoure the inheritance of the Lord?

20 Et Joab répondit et dit: Loin de moi, loin de moi, de vouloir engloutir et détruire!

And Ioab answered, and said, God forbid, God forbid it me, that I should deuoure, or destroy it.

21 La chose n’est pas ainsi, mais un homme de la montagne d’Éphraïm, qui a nom Shéba, fils de Bicri, a levé sa main contre le roi, contre David; livrez-le, lui seul, et je m’en irai de devant la ville. Et la femme dit à Joab: Voici, sa tête te sera jetée par la muraille.

The matter is not so, but a man of mout Ephraim (Sheba ye sonne of Bichri by name) hath lift vp his had against ye King, euen against Dauid: deliuer vs him onely, and I will depart from the citie. And the woman saide vnto Ioab, Beholde, his head shalbe throwen to thee ouer the wall.

22 Et la femme vint vers tout le peuple, avec sa sagesse; et ils coupèrent la tête de Shéba, fils de Bicri, et la jetèrent à Joab. Et il sonna de la trompette, et on se dispersa de devant la ville, chacun à sa tente; et Joab retourna à Jérusalem vers le roi.

Then the woman went vnto all the people with her wisedome, and they cut off the head of Sheba the sonne of Bichri, and cast it to Ioab: the he blewe the trumpet, and they retired from the citie, euery man to his tent: and Ioab returned to Ierusalem vnto the King.

23 Et Joab était [préposé] sur toute l’armée d’Israël; et Benaïa, fils de Jehoïada, sur les Keréthiens et sur les Peléthiens;

Then Ioab was ouer all the hoste of Israel, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada ouer the Cherethites and ouer the Pelethies,

24 et Adoram, sur les levées; et Josaphat, fils d’Akhilud, était rédacteur des chroniques;

And Adoram ouer the tribute, and Ioshaphat the sonne of Ahilud the recorder,

25 et Sheva était scribe, et Tsadok et Abiathar, sacrificateurs;

And Sheia was Scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar the Priests,

26 et Ira aussi, le Jaïrite, était principal officier de David.

And also Ira the Iairite was chiefe about Dauid.
