1 Or Naaman, chef de l’armée du roi de Syrie, était un grand homme devant son seigneur, et considéré, car par lui l’Éternel avait délivré les Syriens; et cet homme était fort et vaillant, [mais] lépreux.

And Naaman, head of the host of the king of Aram, was a great man before his lord, and accepted of face, for by him had Jehovah given salvation to Aram, and the man was mighty in valour — leprous.

2 Et les Syriens étaient sortis par bandes, et avaient amené captive du pays d’Israël une petite fille, et elle servait la femme de Naaman.

And the Aramaeans have gone out [by] troops, and they take captive out of the land of Israel a little damsel, and she is before the wife of Naaman,

3 Et elle dit à sa maîtresse: Oh, si mon seigneur était devant le prophète qui est à Samarie! alors il le délivrerait de sa lèpre.

and she saith unto her mistress, 'O that my lord [were] before the prophet who [is] in Samaria; then he doth recover him from his leprosy.'

4 Et [Naaman] vint et [le] rapporta à son seigneur, disant: La jeune fille qui est du pays d’Israël a dit ainsi et ainsi.

And [one] goeth in and declareth to his lord, saying, 'Thus and thus she hath spoken, the damsel who [is] from the land of Israel.'

5 Et le roi de Syrie dit: Soit! va, et j’enverrai une lettre au roi d’Israël. Et il alla, et prit en sa main dix talents d’argent, et 6 000 [pièces] d’or, et dix vêtements de rechange.

And the king of Aram saith, 'Go thou, enter, and I send a letter unto the king of Israel;' and he goeth and taketh in his hand ten talents of silver, and six thousand [pieces] of gold, and ten changes of garments.

6 Et il apporta au roi d’Israël la lettre, qui disait: Maintenant, quand cette lettre te parviendra, voici, je t’ai envoyé Naaman, mon serviteur, afin que tu le délivres de sa lèpre.

And he bringeth in the letter unto the king of Israel, saying, 'And now, at the coming in of this letter unto thee, lo, I have sent unto thee Naaman my servant, and thou hast recovered him from his leprosy.'

7 Et il arriva que, lorsque le roi d’Israël eut lu la lettre, il déchira ses vêtements, et dit: Suis-je Dieu, pour faire mourir et pour faire vivre, que celui-ci envoie vers moi pour délivrer un homme de sa lèpre? Sachez donc, et voyez qu’il cherche une occasion contre moi.

And it cometh to pass, at the king of Israel's reading the letter, that he rendeth his garments, and saith, 'Am I God, to put to death and to keep alive, that this [one] is sending unto me to recover a man from his leprosy? for surely know, I pray you, and see, for he is presenting himself to me.'

8 Et il arriva que, lorsque Élisée, homme de Dieu, eut entendu que le roi d’Israël avait déchiré ses vêtements, il envoya dire au roi: Pourquoi as-tu déchiré tes vêtements? Qu’il vienne, je te prie, vers moi, et il saura qu’il y a un prophète en Israël.

And it cometh to pass, at Elisha the man of God's hearing that the king of Israel hath rent his garments, that he sendeth unto the king, saying, 'Why hast thou rent thy garments? let him come, I pray thee, unto me, and he doth know that there is a prophet in Israel.'

9 Et Naaman vint avec ses chevaux et avec son char, et se tint à l’entrée de la maison d’Élisée.

And Naaman cometh, with his horses and with his chariot, and standeth at the opening of the house for Elisha;

10 Et Élisée envoya vers lui un messager, disant: Va, et lave-toi sept fois dans le Jourdain, et ta chair redeviendra [saine], et tu seras pur.

and Elisha sendeth unto him a messenger, saying, 'Go, and thou hast washed seven times in Jordan, and thy flesh doth turn back to thee — and be thou clean.

11 Et Naaman se mit en colère, et s’en alla, et dit: Voici, je me disais: Il sortira sans doute, et se tiendra là, et invoquera le nom de l’Éternel, son Dieu, et il promènera sa main sur la place [malade] et délivrera le lépreux.

And Naaman is wroth, and goeth on, and saith, 'Lo, I said, Unto me he doth certainly come out, and hath stood and called in the name of Jehovah his God, and waved his hand over the place, and recovered the leper.

12 L’Abana et le Parpar, rivières de Damas, ne sont-elles pas meilleures que toutes les eaux d’Israël? Ne puis-je pas m’y laver et être pur? Et il se tourna, et s’en alla en colère.

Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? do I not wash in them and I have been clean?' and he turneth and goeth on in fury.

13 Et ses serviteurs s’approchèrent de lui, et lui parlèrent, et dirent: Mon père, si le prophète t’avait dit quelque grande chose, ne l’aurais-tu pas faite? Combien plus, quand il t’a dit: Lave-toi, et tu seras pur.

And his servants come nigh, and speak unto him, and say, 'My father, a great thing had the prophet spoken unto thee — dost thou not do [it]? and surely, when he hath said unto thee, Wash, and be clean.'

14 Et il descendit, et se plongea sept fois dans le Jourdain, selon la parole de l’homme de Dieu; et sa chair redevint comme la chair d’un jeune garçon, et il fut pur.

And he goeth down and dippeth in Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh doth turn back as the flesh of a little youth, and is clean.

15 Et il retourna vers l’homme de Dieu, lui et tout son camp, et il vint et se tint devant lui, et dit: Voici, je sais qu’il n’y a point de Dieu en toute la terre, sinon en Israël. Et maintenant, je te prie, prends un présent de ton serviteur.

And he turneth back unto the man of God, he and all his camp, and cometh in, and standeth before him, and saith, 'Lo, I pray thee, I have known that there is not a God in all the earth except in Israel; and now, take, I pray thee, a blessing from thy servant.'

16 Mais [Élisée] dit: L’Éternel, devant qui je me tiens, est vivant, que je ne le prendrai pas. Et [Naaman] le pressa de le prendre, mais il refusa.

And he saith, 'Jehovah liveth, before whom I have stood — if I take [it];' and he presseth on him to take, and he refuseth.

17 Et Naaman dit: Si cela ne se peut, qu’on donne, je te prie, de [cette] terre à ton serviteur la charge de deux mulets. Car ton serviteur n’offrira plus d’holocauste ni de sacrifice à d’autres dieux, mais seulement à l’Éternel.

And Naaman saith, 'If not — let be given, I pray thee, to thy servant, a couple of mules' burden of earth, for thy servant doth make no more burnt-offering and sacrifice to other gods, but to Jehovah.

18 Qu’en ceci l’Éternel pardonne à ton serviteur: quand mon seigneur entrera dans la maison de Rimmon pour s’y prosterner, et qu’il s’appuiera sur ma main, et que je me prosternerai dans la maison de Rimmon, que l’Éternel, je te prie, pardonne à ton serviteur en ceci, quand je me prosternerai dans la maison de Rimmon!

For this thing Jehovah be propitious to thy servant, in the coming in of my lord into the house of Rimmon to bow himself there, and he was supported by my hand, and I bowed myself [in] the house of Rimmon; for my bowing myself in the house of Rimmon Jehovah be propitious, I pray thee, to thy servant in this thing.'

19 Et il lui dit: Va en paix. Et il s’en alla d’avec lui un bout de chemin.

And he saith to him, 'Go in peace.' And he goeth from him a kibrath of land,

20 Et Guéhazi, le jeune homme d’Élisée, homme de Dieu, dit: Voici, mon maître a épargné Naaman, ce Syrien, en ne prenant pas de sa main ce qu’il avait apporté; l’Éternel est vivant, si je ne cours après lui, et si je ne prends de lui quelque chose!

And Gehazi, servant of Elisha the man of God, saith, 'Lo, my lord hath spared Naaman this Aramaean, not to receive from his hand that which he brought; Jehovah liveth; surely if I have run after him, then I have taken from him something.'

21 Et Guéhazi poursuivit Naaman: et Naaman vit qu’il courait après lui; et il descendit de son char à sa rencontre, et [lui] dit: Tout va-t-il bien?

And Gehazi pursueth after Naaman, and Naaman seeth one running after him, and alighteth from off the chariot to meet him, and saith, 'Is there peace?'

22 Et il dit: Bien. Mon maître m’a envoyé, disant: Voici, dans ce moment, deux jeunes hommes d’entre les fils des prophètes sont venus vers moi, de la montagne d’Éphraïm; donne-leur, je te prie, un talent d’argent et deux vêtements de rechange.

And he saith, 'Peace; my lord hath sent me, saying, Lo, now, this, come unto me have two young men from the hill-country of Ephraim, of the sons of the prophets; give, I pray thee, to them, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.'

23 Et Naaman dit: Consens à prendre deux talents. Et il le pressa avec insistance; et il lia deux talents d’argent dans deux sacs, et deux vêtements de rechange, et il les donna à deux de ses jeunes hommes; et ils les portèrent devant Guéhazi.

And Naaman saith, 'Be pleased, take two talents;' and he urgeth on him, and bindeth two talents of silver in two purses, and two changes of garments, and giveth unto two of his young men, and they bear before him;

24 Et quand il fut arrivé à la colline, il les prit de leurs mains, et les serra dans la maison; et il renvoya les hommes et ils s’en allèrent.

and he cometh in unto the high place, and taketh out of their hand, and layeth up in the house, and sendeth away the men, and they go.

25 Et lui, il entra et se tint devant son maître. Et Élisée lui dit: D’où [viens-tu], Guéhazi? Et il dit: Ton serviteur n’est allé nulle part.

And he hath come in, and doth stand by his lord, and Elisha saith unto him, 'Whence — Gehazi?' and he saith, 'Thy servant went not hither or thither.'

26 Et [Élisée] lui dit: Mon cœur n’est-il pas allé, quand l’homme s’est retourné de dessus son char à ta rencontre? Est-ce le temps de prendre de l’argent, et de prendre des vêtements, et des oliviers, et des vignes, et du menu et du gros bétail, et des serviteurs et des servantes?…

And he saith unto him, 'My heart went not when the man turned from off his chariot to meet thee; is it a time to take silver, and to take garments, and olives, and vines, and flock, and herd, and men-servants, and maid-servants?

27 La lèpre de Naaman s’attachera à toi et à ta semence pour toujours. Et [Guéhazi] sortit de devant lui, lépreux, [blanc] comme la neige.

yea, the leprosy of Naaman doth cleave to thee, and to thy seed, — to the age;' and he goeth out from before him — leprous as snow.
