1 Et il arriva, quand le roi Ézéchias eut entendu [ces choses], qu’il déchira ses vêtements, et se couvrit d’un sac, et entra dans la maison de l’Éternel.
And whanne kyng Ezechie hadde herd these thingis, he to-rente his clothis, and was hilid with a sak; and he entride in to the hous of the Lord.
2 Et il envoya Éliakim, qui était [préposé] sur la maison, et Shebna, le scribe, et les anciens des sacrificateurs, couverts de sacs, vers Ésaïe, le prophète, fils d’Amots;
And he sente Eliachym, souereyn of the hous, and Sobna, scryueyn, and elde men of the preestis, hilid with sackis, to Ysaie, the prophete, sone of Amos.
3 et ils lui dirent: Ainsi dit Ézéchias: Ce jour est un jour de détresse, et de châtiment, et d’opprobre; car les enfants sont venus jusqu’à la naissance, et il n’y a point de force pour enfanter.
Whiche seiden, Ezechie seith these thingis, This dai is a dai of tribulacioun, and of blamyng, and of blasfemye; sones camen `til to the childberyng, and the `traueler of childe hath not strengthis.
4 Peut-être l’Éternel, ton Dieu, entendra-t-il toutes les paroles du Rab-Shaké, que le roi d’Assyrie, son seigneur, a envoyé pour outrager le Dieu vivant, et punira-t-il les paroles que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a entendues? Fais donc monter une prière pour le résidu qui se trouve [encore].
If perauenture thi Lord God here alle the wordis of Rabsaces, whom the kyng of Assiryens, his lord sente, that he schulde dispise the Lord lyuynge, and repreue bi wordis, whiche thi Lord God herde; and make thou preier for these relikis, that ben foundun.
5 Et les serviteurs du roi Ézéchias vinrent vers Ésaïe.
Therfor the seruauntis of kyng Ezechie camen to Isaie;
6 Et Ésaïe leur dit: Vous direz ainsi à votre seigneur: Ainsi dit l’Éternel: Ne crains pas à cause des paroles que tu as entendues, par lesquelles les serviteurs du roi d’Assyrie m’ont blasphémé.
and Isaie seide to hem, Seie ye these thingis to youre lord, The Lord seith these thingis, Nyle thou drede of the face of wordis whiche thou herdist, bi whiche the children of the kyng of Assiriens blasfemeden me.
7 Voici, je vais mettre en lui un esprit, et il entendra une nouvelle, et retournera dans son pays; et je le ferai tomber par l’épée dans son pays.
Lo! Y schal sende to hym a spirit, and he schal here a messanger, and he schal turne ayen in to his lond; and Y schal caste hym doun bi swerd in his owne lond.
8 Et le Rab-Shaké s’en retourna, et trouva le roi d’Assyrie faisant la guerre à Libna; car il avait appris qu’il était parti de Lakis.
Therfor Rabsaces turnede ayen, and foond the kyng of Assiriens fiytynge ayens Lobna; for he hadde herd, that the kyng hadde go awei fro Lachis.
9 Et [le roi d’Assyrie] entendit dire, touchant Tirhaka, roi d’Éthiopie: Voici, il est sorti pour te faire la guerre. Et il envoya de nouveau des messagers à Ézéchias, disant:
And whanne he hadde herd of Theracha, kyng of Ethiope, `men seyynge, Lo! he yede out, that he fiyte ayens thee; that he schulde go ayens `that kyng, he sente messangeris to Ezechie,
10 Vous parlerez ainsi à Ézéchias, roi de Juda, disant: Que ton Dieu, en qui tu te confies, ne te trompe point, disant: Jérusalem ne sera pas livrée en la main du roi d’Assyrie.
and seide, Seie ye these thingis to Ezechie, kyng of Juda, Thi Lord God, in whom thou hast trist, disseyue not thee, nether seie thou, Jerusalem schal not be `bitakun in to the hondis of the kyng of Assiriens;
11 Voici, tu as entendu ce que les rois d’Assyrie ont fait à tous les pays, les détruisant entièrement; et toi, tu serais délivré!
for thou thi silf herdist what thingis the kyngis of Assiriens diden in alle londis, hou thei wastiden tho; whether therfor thou aloone maist be delyuered?
12 Est-ce que les dieux des nations que mes pères ont détruites les ont délivrées, Gozan, et Charan, et Rétseph, et les fils d’Éden qui étaient en Thelassar?
Whether the goddis of hethene men delyueriden alle men whiche my fadris distrieden, that is, Gozam, and Aran, and Reseph, and the sones of Eden, that weren in Thelassar?
13 Où est le roi de Hamath, et le roi d’Arpad, et le roi de la ville de Sepharvaïm, d’Héna, et d’Ivva?
Where is the kyng of Emath, and the kyng of Arphat? and the kyng of the cytee of Sepharuaym, of Ana, and of Aua?
14 Et Ézéchias prit la lettre de la main des messagers, et la lut, et monta dans la maison de l’Éternel; et Ézéchias la déploya devant l’Éternel.
Therfor whanne Ezechie hadde take the lettris fro the hond of messangeris, and hadde red tho, he stiede in to the hows of the Lord, and spredde abrood tho bifor the Lord;
15 Et Ézéchias pria l’Éternel et dit: Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, qui es assis entre les chérubins, toi, le Même, toi seul tu es le Dieu de tous les royaumes de la terre; toi, tu as fait les cieux et la terre.
and preiede in his siyt, and seide, Lord God of Israel, that sittist on cherubym, thou art God aloone of alle kyngis of erthe; thou madist heuene and erthe.
16 Éternel! incline ton oreille et écoute. Éternel! ouvre tes yeux, et vois; et écoute les paroles de Sankhérib, qu’il a envoyées pour outrager le Dieu vivant.
Bowe thin eere, and here; opyn thin iyen, Lord, and se; and here alle the wordis of Senacherib, which sente, that he schulde dispise `to vs `God lyuynge.
17 Il est vrai, Éternel! les rois d’Assyrie ont dévasté les nations et leurs pays,
Verili, Lord, the kynges of Assiriens distrieden hethene men, and the londis of alle men,
18 et ont jeté au feu leurs dieux; car ce n’étaient pas des dieux, mais l’ouvrage de mains d’homme, – du bois, et de la pierre; et ils les ont détruits.
and senten the goddis of hem in to fier; for thei weren not goddis, but werkis of `hondis of men, of tre and stoon; and thei losten `tho goddis.
19 Et maintenant, Éternel, notre Dieu! sauve-nous, je te prie, de sa main, afin que tous les royaumes de la terre sachent que toi, Éternel, tu es Dieu, toi seul.
Now therfor, oure Lord God, make vs saaf fro the hond of hem, that alle rewmes of erthe wite that thou art the Lord God aloone.
20 Et Ésaïe, fils d’Amots, envoya vers Ézéchias, disant: Ainsi dit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël: Quant à la prière que tu m’as faite au sujet de Sankhérib, roi d’Assyrie, je l’ai entendue.
Forsothe Isaie, sone of Amos, sente to Ezechie, and seide, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Y haue herd tho thingis, whiche thou preidist me on Sennacherib, king of Assiriens.
21 C’est ici la parole que l’Éternel a prononcée contre lui: La vierge, fille de Sion, te méprise, elle se moque de toi; la fille de Jérusalem secoue la tête après toi.
This is the word, which the Lord spak of hym, Thou virgyn douytir of Syon, he dispiside thee, and scornyde thee; thou douyter of Jerusalem, he mouyde his heed aftir thi bak.
22 Qui as-tu outragé et blasphémé? Et contre qui as-tu élevé la voix? C’est contre le Saint d’Israël que tu as levé tes yeux en haut.
Sennacherib, whom `dispisidist thou, and whom `blasfemedist thou? Ayens whom hast thou reisid thi vois, and hast reisid thin iyen an hiye? Ayens the hooli of Israel.
23 Par tes messagers tu as outragé le Seigneur, et tu as dit: Avec la multitude de mes chars j’ai gravi le haut des montagnes, les parties reculées du Liban, et je couperai ses hauts cèdres, l’élite de ses cyprès, et je parviendrai jusqu’à son dernier gîte, à la forêt de son Carmel.
Bi the hond of thi seruauntis thou dispisidist the Lord, and seidist, In the multitude of my charys Y stiede in to the hiye thingis of hillis, in the hiynesse of Liban, and kittide doun the hiye cedris therof, and the chosyn beechis therof; and Y entride `til to the termes therof,
24 J’ai creusé, et j’ai bu des eaux étrangères; et j’ai desséché avec la plante de mes pieds tous les canaux de Matsor…
and Y kittide doun the forest of Carmele therof; and Y drank alien watris, and Y made drie with the steppis of `the feet of myn `alle watris closid.
25 N’as-tu pas entendu que j’ai fait cela dès longtemps, et que je l’ai formé dès les jours d’autrefois? Maintenant je l’ai fait arriver, pour que tu réduises en monceaux de ruines des villes fortes.
Whether thou herdist not, what Y made at the bigynnyng? Fro elde daies Y made it, and now Y haue brouyt forth; and strengthid citees of fiyteris schulen be in to fallyng of hillis.
26 Et leurs habitants ont été sans force, ils ont été terrifiés, et ont été couverts de honte; ils ont été [comme] l’herbe des champs et l’herbe verte, [comme] l’herbe des toits et la récolte flétrie avant qu’elle soit en tige.
And thei that sitten meke of hond in tho, trembliden togidere, and ben schent; thei ben maad as the hei of the feeld, and as grene eerbe of roouys, which is dried, bifor that it cam to ripenesse.
27 Mais je sais ton habitation, et ta sortie et ton entrée, et ta rage contre moi.
And Y bifor knew thi dwellyng, and thi goyng out, and thin entryng, and thi weie, and thi woodnesse ayens me.
28 Parce que tu es plein de rage contre moi, et que ton insolence est montée à mes oreilles, je mettrai mon anneau à ton nez et mon frein entre tes lèvres, et je te ferai retourner par le chemin par lequel tu es venu.
Thou were wood ayens me, and thi pride stide in to myn eeris; therfor Y schal putte a cercle in thi nosethirlis, and a bernacle in thi lippis, and Y schal lede thee ayen in to the weie bi which thou camest.
29 Et ceci en sera le signe pour toi: on mangera cette année ce qui lève des grains tombés, et la seconde année ce qui croît de soi-même; et la troisième année, vous sèmerez et vous moissonnerez, et vous planterez des vignes et vous en mangerez le fruit.
Forsothe, Ezechie, this schal be a signe `to thee; ete thou in this yeer that, that thou fyndist; forsothe in the secounde yeer tho thingis, that growen bi her owne wille; sotheli in the thridde yeer sowe ye, and repe ye, plaunte ye vyneris, and ete the fruytis of tho.
30 Et ce qui est réchappé et demeuré de reste de la maison de Juda poussera encore des racines en bas et produira du fruit en haut.
And what euer thing schal be residue of the hows of Juda, it schal sende root dounward, and schal make fruyt vpward.
31 Car de Jérusalem sortira un résidu, et de la montagne de Sion, ce qui est réchappé. La jalousie de l’Éternel [des armées] fera cela.
For relikis schulen go out of Jerusalem, and that, that schal be sauyd, `schal go out of the hil of Syon; the feruent loue of the Lord of oostis schal do this.
32 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit l’Éternel touchant le roi d’Assyrie: Il n’entrera pas dans cette ville, et il n’y lancera point de flèche; il ne lui présentera pas le bouclier, et il n’élèvera point de terrasse contre elle.
Wherfor the Lord seith these thingis of the kyng of Assiriens, He schal not entre in to this citee, nethir he schal sende an arowe in to it, nether scheeld shal occupie it, nether strengthing, ethir bisegyng, schal cumpasse it.
33 Il s’en retournera par le chemin par lequel il est venu, et il n’entrera pas dans cette ville, dit l’Éternel.
He schal turne ayen bi the weie `bi which he cam, and he schal not entre in to this citee, seith the Lord;
34 Et je protégerai cette ville, afin de la sauver, à cause de moi, et à cause de David, mon serviteur.
and Y schal defende this citee, and Y schal saue it for me, and for Dauid, my seruaunt.
35 Et il arriva, cette nuit-là, qu’un ange de l’Éternel sortit, et frappa dans le camp des Assyriens 185 000 [hommes]; et quand on se leva le matin, voici, c’étaient tous des corps morts.
Therfor it was don, in that niyt the aungel of the Lord cam, and smoot in the castels of Assiryens an hundrid foure score and fyue thousynde. And whanne Sennacherib hadde rise eerli, he siy alle bodies of deed men; and he departide, and yede awei.
36 Et Sankhérib, roi d’Assyrie, partit, et s’en alla et s’en retourna, et habita à Ninive.
And Sennacherib, the kyng of Assiriens, turnede ayen, and dwellide in Nynyue.
37 Et il arriva, comme il se prosternait dans la maison de Nisroc, son dieu, qu’Adrammélec et Sharétser, [ses fils], le frappèrent avec l’épée; et ils se sauvèrent dans le pays d’Ararat; et Ésar-Haddon, son fils, régna à sa place.
And whanne he worschipide in the temple Nestrach his god, Adramelech and Sirasar, his sones, killide hym with swerd; and thei fledden in to the lond of Armenyes; and Asaradon, his sone, regnyde for hym.
