2 Chroniques 8
1 Et au bout de 20 ans, lorsque Salomon eut bâti la maison de l’Éternel et sa propre maison,
Then, twenty years having passed since Solomon built the house of the Lord and his own house,
2 il arriva que Salomon bâtit aussi les villes que Hiram avait données à Salomon, et y fit habiter les fils d’Israël.
he built the cities that Hiram had given to Solomon, and he caused the sons of Israel to live there.
3 Et Salomon alla en Hamath-Tsoba, et l’assujettit.
Also, he went to Hamath Zobah, and he obtained it.
4 Et il bâtit Tadmor dans le désert, et toutes les villes à entrepôts qu’il bâtit en Hamath.
And he built Palmira in the desert, and he built very fortified cities in Hamath.
5 Et il bâtit Beth-Horon la haute, et Beth-Horon la basse, villes fortes, avec des murailles, des portes et des barres,
And he built upper Beth-horon and lower Beth-horon, as walled cities, having gates and bars and locks,
6 et Baalath, et toutes les villes à entrepôts qu’avait Salomon, et toutes les villes pour les chars, et les villes pour la cavalerie, et tout ce que Salomon désira de bâtir à Jérusalem, et au Liban, et dans tout le pays de sa domination.
as well as Baalath, and all the very strong cities which were of Solomon, and all the cities of the chariots, and the cities of the horsemen. Everything whatsoever that Solomon willed and decided, he built in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and throughout the entire land of his authority.
7 – Tout le peuple qui restait des Héthiens, et des Amoréens, et des Phéréziens, et des Héviens, et des Jébusiens, qui n’étaient pas d’Israël,
All the people who had been left from the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, those who were not from the stock of Israel,
8 – leurs fils qui étaient restés après eux dans le pays [et] que les fils d’Israël n’avaient pas détruits, Salomon les assujettit aux levées, jusqu’à ce jour.
those of their sons and their posterity whom the sons of Israel had not put to death, Solomon subjugated as tributaries, even to this day.
9 Mais des fils d’Israël, Salomon n’en fit pas des esclaves pour ses travaux; car ils étaient hommes de guerre, et chefs de ses capitaines, et chefs de ses chars et de sa cavalerie.
But he did not appoint anyone from the sons of Israel to serve in the works of the king. For they were men of war, and first rulers, and commanders of his chariots and horsemen.
10 Et c’est ici [le nombre] des chefs des intendants qu’avait le roi Salomon: 250, qui avaient autorité sur le peuple.
Now all the leaders of the army of king Solomon were two hundred fifty, who were instructing the people.
11 Et Salomon fit monter la fille du Pharaon, de la ville de David, dans la maison qu’il avait bâtie pour elle; car il dit: Ma femme n’habitera pas dans la maison de David, roi d’Israël, car les lieux où est entrée l’arche de l’Éternel sont saints.
Truly, he transferred the daughter of Pharaoh, from the City of David, to the house that he had built for her. For the king said: “My wife shall not live in the house of David, king of Israel, for it has been sanctified. For the ark of the Lord has entered into it.”
12 Alors Salomon offrit des holocaustes à l’Éternel, sur l’autel de l’Éternel, qu’il avait bâti devant le portique,
Then Solomon offered holocausts to the Lord on the altar of the Lord, which he had constructed before the portico,
13 offrant chaque jour ce qu’il fallait, selon le commandement de Moïse, pour les sabbats, et pour les nouvelles lunes, et pour les jours solennels, trois fois par an, à la fête des pains sans levain, et à la fête des semaines, et à la fête des tabernacles.
so that every day there would be an offering on it, in accord with the precept of Moses, on the Sabbaths, and on the new moons, and three times a year on the feast days, that is, on the solemnity of unleavened bread, and on the solemnity of weeks, and on the solemnity of tabernacles.
14 Et il établit, suivant l’ordonnance de David, son père, les classes des sacrificateurs dans leur service, et les lévites dans leurs charges, pour louer et pour faire le service devant les sacrificateurs, selon l’œuvre de chaque jour, et les portiers dans leurs divisions, à chaque porte; car tel avait été le commandement de David, homme de Dieu.
And he appointed, in accord with the plan of his father David, the offices of the priests in their ministries; and those of the Levites, in their orders, so that they might praise and minister before the priests according to the ritual of each day; and the porters, in their divisions, from gate to gate. For so had David, the man of God, instructed.
15 Et on ne s’écarta point du commandement du roi pour les sacrificateurs et les lévites, en aucune chose, ni à l’égard des trésors.
Neither the priests, nor the Levites, transgressed against the commands of the king, in all that he had instructed, and in the keeping of the treasuries.
16 Ainsi toute l’œuvre de Salomon fut préparée, jusqu’au jour où la maison de l’Éternel fut fondée, et jusqu’à ce qu’elle fut terminée. La maison de l’Éternel fut achevée.
Solomon had all the expenses prepared, from the day on which he founded the house of the Lord, even until the day when he perfected it.
17 Alors Salomon s’en alla à Étsion-Guéber et à Éloth, sur le bord de la mer, dans le pays d’Édom.
Then Solomon went away to Eziongeber, and to Eloth, on the coast of the Red Sea, which is in the land of Edom.
18 Et Hiram lui envoya, par la main de ses serviteurs, des navires et des serviteurs connaissant la mer; et ils allèrent avec les serviteurs de Salomon à Ophir, et y prirent 450 talents d’or, et les apportèrent au roi Salomon.
And Hiram sent to him ships, by the hands of his servants, sailors and skillful navigators of the sea, and they went away with the servants of Solomon to Ophir. And they took from there four hundred fifty talents of gold, and they brought it to king Solomon.
