2 Chroniques 18

1 Et Josaphat eut beaucoup de richesses et de gloire; et il s’allia par mariage avec Achab.

And Iehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, but he was ioyned in affinitie with Ahab.

2 Et au bout de quelques années, il descendit vers Achab à Samarie; et Achab tua pour lui et pour le peuple qui était avec lui du menu et du gros bétail en abondance, et il le persuada de monter contre Ramoth de Galaad.

And after certaine yeeres he went downe to Ahab to Samaria: and Ahab slew sheepe and oxen for him in great nomber, and for the people that he had with him, and entised him to goe vp vnto Ramoth Gilead.

3 Et Achab, roi d’Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: Viendras-tu avec moi à Ramoth de Galaad? Et il lui dit: Moi, je suis comme toi, et mon peuple comme ton peuple; et [je serai] avec toi dans la guerre.

And Ahab King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Wilt thou goe with mee to Ramoth Gilead? And hee answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people, and wee will ioyne with thee in the warre.

4 Et Josaphat dit au roi d’Israël: Enquiers-toi aujourd’hui, je te prie, de la parole de l’Éternel.

And Iehoshaphat sayde vnto the King of Israel, Aske counsel, I pray thee, at the worde of the Lord this day.

5 Et le roi d’Israël rassembla les prophètes, 400 hommes, et leur dit: Irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou m’en abstiendrai-je? Et ils dirent: Monte; et Dieu la livrera en la main du roi.

Therefore the King of Israel gathered of Prophets foure hundreth men, and sayde vnto them, Shall we goe to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I cease? And they sayd, Go vp: for God shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.

6 Et Josaphat dit: N’y a-t-il pas ici encore un prophète de l’Éternel, pour que nous nous enquérions auprès de lui?

But Iehoshaphat sayde, Is there heere neuer a Prophet more of the Lord that wee might inquire of him?

7 Et le roi d’Israël dit à Josaphat: Il y a encore un homme, pour consulter l’Éternel par lui; mais je le hais, car il ne prophétise pas du bien à mon égard, mais toujours du mal; c’est Michée, fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit: Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!

And the King of Israel sayd vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whome wee may aske counsell of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophesie good vnto me, but alway euil: it is Michaiah the sonne of Imla. Then Iehoshaphat said, Let not the King say so.

8 Et le roi d’Israël appela un eunuque, et dit: Fais promptement venir Michée, fils de Jimla.

And the King of Israel called an eunuche, and said, Call quickly Michaiah the sonne of Imla.

9 Et le roi d’Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs robes; ils étaient assis sur une place ouverte à l’entrée de la porte de Samarie; et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.

And the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne clothed in their apparel: they sate euen in the threshing floore at the entring in of the gate of Samaria: and all the Prophets prophesied before them.

10 Et Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, se fit des cornes de fer, et dit: Ainsi dit l’Éternel: Avec celles-ci tu heurteras les Syriens jusqu’à les exterminer.

And Zidkiah ye sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron, and sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Aramites vntill thou hast consumed them.

11 Et tous les prophètes prophétisaient de même, disant: Monte à Ramoth de Galaad, et prospère; et l’Éternel la livrera en la main du roi.

And all the Prophets prophesied so, saying, Go vp to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the King.

12 Et le messager qui était allé pour appeler Michée lui parla, disant: Voici, les paroles des prophètes, d’une seule bouche, [annoncent] du bien au roi; que ta parole donc soit, je te prie, comme celle de l’un d’eux, et annonce du bien.

And the messenger that went to call Michaiah, spake to him, saying, Beholde, the wordes of the Prophets declare good to the King with one accord: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speake thou good.

13 Mais Michée dit: L’Éternel est vivant, que ce que mon Dieu dira, je l’annoncerai.

And Michaiah saide, As the Lord liueth, whatsoeuer my God saith, that will I speake.

14 Et il vint vers le roi. Et le roi lui dit: Michée, irons-nous à la guerre à Ramoth de Galaad, ou m’en abstiendrai-je? Et il dit: Montez et prospérez; et ils seront livrés entre vos mains.

So he came to the King, and the King said vnto him, Michaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I leaue off? And he said, Goe yee vp, and prosper, and they shalbe deliuered into your hand.

15 Et le roi lui dit: Combien de fois t’adjurerai-je de ne me dire que la vérité au nom de l’Éternel?

And the King sayd to him, Howe oft shall I charge thee, that thou tell mee nothing but the trueth in the Name of the Lord?

16 Et [Michée] dit: J’ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme un troupeau qui n’a pas de berger; et l’Éternel a dit: Ceux-ci n’ont pas de seigneur; qu’ils s’en retournent en paix chacun à sa maison.

Then he said, I saw al Israel scattered in the mountaines, as sheepe that haue no shepheard: and the Lord sayd, These haue no Master: let them returne euery man to his house in peace.

17 Et le roi d’Israël dit à Josaphat: Ne t’ai-je pas dit qu’il ne prophétise pas du bien à mon égard, mais du mal?

And the King of Israel sayde to Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesie good vnto me, but euill?

18 Et [Michée] dit: C’est pourquoi, écoutez la parole de l’Éternel. J’ai vu l’Éternel assis sur son trône, et toute l’armée des cieux se tenant à sa droite et à sa gauche;

Againe hee saide, Therefore heare ye the worde of the Lord: I sawe the Lord sit vpon his throne, and all the hoste of heauen standing at his right hand, and at his left.

19 et l’Éternel dit: Qui persuadera Achab, roi d’Israël, afin qu’il monte et qu’il tombe à Ramoth de Galaad? Et on parla, celui-ci disant ainsi, et celui-là disant ainsi.

And the Lord sayd, Who shall perswade Ahab King of Israel, that he may go vp, and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one spake and said thus, and another said that.

20 Et un esprit sortit, et se tint devant l’Éternel, et dit: Moi, je le persuaderai. Et l’Éternel lui dit: Comment?

Then there came forth a spirit and stoode before the Lord, and said, I will perswade him. And the Lord said vnto him, Wherein?

21 Et il dit: Je sortirai, et je serai un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Et [l’Éternel] dit: Tu le persuaderas, et aussi tu réussiras: sors, et fais ainsi.

And he saide, I will goe out, and bee a false spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets. And hee said, Thou shalt perswade, and shalt also preuaile: goe forth and do so.

22 Et maintenant, voici, l’Éternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes prophètes que voilà, et l’Éternel a prononcé du mal à ton sujet.

Now therefore behold, the Lord hath put a false spirit in the mouth of these thy Prophets, and the Lord hath determined euill against thee.

23 Et Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s’approcha et frappa Michée sur la joue, et dit: Par quel chemin a passé l’Esprit de l’Éternel, d’avec moi, pour te parler?

Then Zidkiah the sonne of Chenaanah came neere, and smote Michaiah vpon the cheeke, and sayde, By what way went the Spirit of the Lord from me, to speake with thee?

24 Et Michée dit: Voici, tu le verras ce jour-là, quand tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.

And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see that day when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.

25 Et le roi d’Israël dit: Prenez Michée, et emmenez-le à Amon, chef de la ville, et à Joas, fils du roi;

And the King of Israel sayde, Take ye Michaiah, and cary him to Amon the gouernour of the citie, and to Ioash the Kings sonne,

26 et vous direz: Ainsi dit le roi: Mettez cet [homme] en prison, et donnez-lui à manger le pain d’affliction et l’eau d’affliction, jusqu’à ce que je revienne en paix.

And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction vntil I returne in peace.

27 Et Michée dit: Si jamais tu reviens en paix, l’Éternel n’a point parlé par moi. Et il dit: Peuples, entendez-le tous!

And Michaiah said, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he saide, Heare, all ye people.

28 Et le roi d’Israël monta, et Josaphat, roi de Juda, à Ramoth de Galaad.

So the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah went vp to Ramoth Gilead.

29 Et le roi d’Israël dit à Josaphat: Je me déguiserai, et j’irai à la bataille; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes robes. Et le roi d’Israël se déguisa, et ils allèrent à la bataille.

And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, I will change my selfe, and enter into the battel: but put thou on thine apparel. So the King of Israel changed himselfe, and they went into the battel.

30 Et le roi de Syrie commanda aux chefs de ses chars, disant: Ne combattez ni contre petit, ni contre grand, mais contre le roi d’Israël seul.

And the King of Aram had commanded the captaines of the charets that were with him, saying, Fight you not with small, nor great, but against the King of Israel onely.

31 Et il arriva que, quand les chefs des chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent: C’est le roi d’Israël. Et ils l’entourèrent pour combattre contre lui. Et Josaphat cria, et l’Éternel le secourut; et Dieu les porta [à s’éloigner] de lui.

And when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, they sayde, It is the King of Israel: and they compassed about him to fight. But Iehoshaphat cryed, and the Lord helped him and moued them to depart from him.

32 Et il arriva que, lorsque les chefs des chars virent que ce n’était pas le roi d’Israël, ils s’en revinrent de sa poursuite.

For when the captaines of the charets saw that hee was not the King of Israel, they turned backe from him.

33 Et un homme tira de l’arc à l’aventure et frappa le roi d’Israël entre les pièces d’attache et la cuirasse; et [Achab] dit au conducteur du char: Tourne ta main, et mène-moi hors de l’armée, car je suis blessé.

Then a certaine man drewe a bowe mightily, and smote the King of Israel betweene the ioyntes of his brigandine: Therefore he saide to his charetman, Turne thine hand, and carie mee out of the host: for I am hurt.

34 Et la bataille se renforça ce jour-là, et le roi d’Israël se soutint sur [son] char, vis-à-vis des Syriens, jusqu’au soir; et il mourut vers le temps où le soleil se couchait.

And the battel increased that day: and the King of Israel stood still in his charet against the Aramites vntil euen, and dyed at the time of the sunne going downe.
