1 Rois 8
1 Alors Salomon assembla les anciens d’Israël et tous les chefs des tribus, les princes des pères des fils d’Israël, auprès du roi Salomon à Jérusalem, pour faire monter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel de la ville de David, qui est Sion.
Thanne alle the gretter men in birthe in Israel, with the princes of lynagis, and the duykis of meynees of the sones of Israel, weren gaderid to kyng Salomon, in to Jerusalem, that thei schulden bere the arke of boond of pees of the Lord fro the citee of Dauid, that is, fro Syon.
2 Et tous les hommes d’Israël s’assemblèrent vers le roi Salomon, à la fête, au mois d’Éthanim, qui est le septième mois.
And al Israel cam to gidere in the moneth Bethanym, in the solempne dai; thilke is the seuenthe moneth.
3 Et tous les anciens d’Israël vinrent, et les sacrificateurs portèrent l’arche.
And alle the elde men of Israel camen; and the preestis token the arke,
4 Et ils firent monter l’arche de l’Éternel, et la tente d’assignation, et tous les ustensiles du lieu saint qui étaient dans la tente: les sacrificateurs et les lévites les firent monter.
and baren the arke of the Lord, and the tabernacle of boond of pees, and alle vessels of the seyntuarye, that weren in the tabernacle; and the preestis and dekenes baren tho.
5 Et le roi Salomon et toute l’assemblée d’Israël, qui s’était réunie auprès de lui [et qui était] avec lui devant l’arche, sacrifiaient du menu et du gros bétail, qu’on ne pouvait nombrer ni compter, à cause de [sa] multitude.
Sotheli kyng Salomon, and al the multitude of Israel, that camen togidere to hym, yede with hym bifor the arke; and thei offriden scheep and oxis, with out gessyng and noumbre.
6 Et les sacrificateurs firent entrer l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel en son lieu, dans l’oracle de la maison, dans le lieu très saint, sous les ailes des chérubins;
And prestis brouyten the arke of boond of pees of the Lord in to his place, in to Goddis answerynge place of the temple, in to the hooli of hooli thingis, vndur the wengis of cherubyns.
7 car les chérubins étendaient les ailes sur le lieu de l’arche, et les chérubins couvraient l’arche et ses barres, par-dessus.
Forsothe cherubyns spredden forth wengis ouer the place of the arke; and hiliden the arke, and the barris therof aboue.
8 Et les barres étaient longues, de sorte que les bouts des barres se voyaient depuis le lieu saint, sur le devant de l’oracle, mais ils ne se voyaient pas du dehors; et elles sont là jusqu’à ce jour.
And whanne the barris stoden forth, and the hiynesse of tho apperiden with out the seyntuarye, bifor `Goddis answerynge place, tho apperyden no ferther with outforth; whiche barris also weren there `til in to present day.
9 Il n’y avait rien dans l’arche, sauf les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y plaça en Horeb, quand l’Éternel fit alliance avec les fils d’Israël, lorsqu’ils sortirent du pays d’Égypte.
Forsothe in the arke is noon other thing, no but twei tablis of stoon, whiche tablis Moyses in Oreb hadde put in the ark, whanne the Lord made boond of pees with the sones of Israel, whanne thei yeden out of the loond of Egipt.
10 Et il arriva que, comme les sacrificateurs sortaient du lieu saint, la nuée remplit la maison de l’Éternel;
Forsothe it was doon whanne the preestis hadden go out of the seyntuarie, a cloude fillide the hows of the Lord;
11 et les sacrificateurs ne pouvaient pas s’y tenir pour faire le service, à cause de la nuée, car la gloire de l’Éternel remplissait la maison de l’Éternel.
and the preestis myyten not stonde and mynystre, for the cloude; for whi the glorye of the Lord hadde fillid the hows of the Lord.
12 Alors Salomon dit: L’Éternel a dit qu’il habiterait dans l’obscurité profonde.
Thanne Salomon seide, The Lord seide, that he wolde dwelle in a cloude.
13 J’ai bâti toutefois une maison d’habitation pour toi, un lieu fixe pour que tu y demeures à toujours.
Y bildynge haue bildid an hows in to thi dwelling place, in to thi moost stidefast trone with outen ende.
14 Et le roi tourna sa face, et bénit toute la congrégation d’Israël; et toute la congrégation d’Israël était debout.
And the kyng turnede his face, and blesside al the chirche in Israel; for al the chirche of Israel stood.
15 Et il dit: Béni soit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui parla de sa bouche à David, mon père, et de sa main a accompli [sa parole], disant:
And Salomon seide, Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, that spak with his mouth to Dauid, my fadir, and performyde in hise hondis, and seide,
16 Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir d’Égypte mon peuple Israël, je n’ai choisi aucune ville d’entre toutes les tribus d’Israël pour [y] bâtir une maison afin que mon nom y soit; mais j’ai choisi David pour être [roi] sur mon peuple Israël.
Fro the dai in which Y ledde my puple Israel out of Egipt, Y chees not a citee of alle the lynagis of Israel, that an hows schulde be bildid, and my name schulde be there; but Y chees Dauid, that he schulde be ouer my puple Israel.
17 Et David, mon père, avait à cœur de bâtir une maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
And Dauid, my fadir, wolde bilde an hows to the name of the Lord God of Israel.
18 Et l’Éternel dit à David, mon père: Puisque tu as eu à cœur de bâtir une maison pour mon nom, tu as bien fait de l’avoir eu à cœur;
And the Lord seide to Dauid, my fadir, That thou thouytist in thin herte to bilde an hows to my name, thou didist wel, tretynge this same thing in soule;
19 toutefois, tu ne bâtiras pas la maison; mais ton fils qui sortira de tes reins, lui, bâtira une maison pour mon nom.
netheles thou schalt not bilde an hows to me, but thi sone, that schal go out of thi reynes, he schal bilde an hows to my name.
20 Et l’Éternel a accompli sa parole, qu’il a prononcée; et je me suis levé à la place de David, mon père, et je suis assis sur le trône d’Israël, comme l’Éternel l’a dit; et j’ai bâti la maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël;
The Lord hath confermyd his word, which he spak; and Y stood for Dauid, my fadir, and Y sat on the trone of Israel, as the Lord spak; and Y haue bildid an hows to the name of the Lord God of Israel.
21 et là j’ai établi un lieu pour l’arche, où est l’alliance de l’Éternel, qu’il fit avec nos pères quand il les fit sortir du pays d’Égypte.
And Y haue ordeyned there a place of the arke, in which arke the boond of pees of the Lord is, which he smoot with oure fadris, whanne thei yeden out of the lond of Egipt.
22 Et Salomon se tint devant l’autel de l’Éternel, en face de toute la congrégation d’Israël, et étendit ses mains vers les cieux,
Forsothe Salomon stood bifoor the auter of the Lord, in the siyt of the chirch of Israel; and he helde forth hise hondis ayens heuene,
23 et dit: Éternel, Dieu d’Israël! il n’y a point de Dieu comme toi, dans les cieux en haut, et sur la terre en bas, qui gardes l’alliance et la bonté envers tes serviteurs qui marchent devant toi de tout leur cœur,
and seide, Lord God of Israel, no God in heuene aboue, nether on erthe bynethe, is lijk thee, which kepist couenaunt and mercy to thi seruauntis, that goon bifor thee in al her herte;
24 toi qui as gardé envers ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as dit: tu as parlé de ta bouche, et de ta main tu as accompli [ta parole], comme [il paraît] aujourd’hui.
and thou kepist to Dauid, my fadir, thi seruaunt, tho thingis whiche thou hast spoke to him; bi mouth thou hast spoke, and bi hondis thou hast fillid, as this day preueth.
25 Et maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, garde envers ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as dit, disant: Tu ne manqueras pas, devant ma face, d’un homme assis sur le trône d’Israël, si seulement tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, pour marcher devant moi comme tu as marché devant moi.
Now therfor, Lord God of Israel, kepe thou to thi seruaunt Dauid, my fadir, tho thingis whiche thou spakist to hym, and seidist, A man of thee schal not be taken awei bifor me, which man schal sitte on the trone of Israel, so netheles if thi sones kepen thi weye, that thei go bifor me, as thou yedist in my siyt.
26 Et maintenant, ô Dieu d’Israël, je te prie, que tes paroles, que tu as dites à ton serviteur David, mon père, soient fermes.
And now, Lord God of Israel, thi wordis be maad stidfast, whiche thou spakist to thi seruaunt Dauid, my fadir.
27 Mais Dieu habitera-t-il vraiment sur la terre? Voici, les cieux, et les cieux des cieux, ne peuvent te contenir; combien moins cette maison que j’ai bâtie!
Therfor whether it is to gesse, that God dwellith verily on erthe; for if heuene, and heuene of heuenes moun not take thee, how myche more this hows, which Y bildid to thee, `mai not take thee.
28 Cependant, Éternel, mon Dieu, aie égard à la prière de ton serviteur et à sa supplication, pour écouter le cri et la prière que ton serviteur t’adresse aujourd’hui,
But, my Lord God, biholde thou to the preiere of thi seruaunt, and to the bisechyngis of hym; here thou the `ympne, ether preysing, and preiere, which thi seruaunt preieth bifor thee to day;
29 pour que tes yeux soient ouverts nuit et jour sur cette maison, sur le lieu dont tu as dit: Mon nom sera là, – pour écouter la prière que ton serviteur t’adressera [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci.
that thin iyen be openyd on this hows bi niyt and dai, on the hows, of which thou seidist, My name schal be there; that thou here the preier, which thi seruaunt preieth to thee in this place; that thou here the bisechyng of thi seruaunt,
30 Et écoute la supplication de ton serviteur et de ton peuple Israël, qu’ils t’adresseront [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci; toi, écoute dans le lieu de ton habitation, dans les cieux; écoute et pardonne!
and of thi puple Israel, what euer thing he preieth in this place, and here thou in the place of thi dwellyng in heuene; and whanne thou hast herd, thou schalt be mercyful.
31 Si un homme pèche contre son prochain, et qu’on lui impose le serment pour le faire jurer, et que le serment vienne devant ton autel, dans cette maison:
If a man synneth ayens a man, and hath ony ooth, bi which he is holdun boundun, and cometh for the ooth in to thin hows, bifor thin auter, thou schalt here in heuene,
32 alors, toi, écoute dans les cieux, et agis, et juge tes serviteurs, en condamnant le méchant, pour faire retomber sa voie sur sa tête, et en justifiant le juste, en lui donnant selon sa justice.
and thou schalt do, and thou schalt deme thi seruauntis; and thou schalt condempne the wickid man, and schalt yelde his weie on his heed, and thou schalt iustifie the iust man, and schalt yelde to hym vp his riytfulnesse.
33 Quand ton peuple Israël sera battu devant l’ennemi, parce qu’ils auront péché contre toi, s’ils retournent vers toi, et confessent ton nom, et te prient, et t’adressent leur supplication dans cette maison:
If thi puple Israel fleeth hise enemyes, for he schal do synne to thee, and thei doen penaunce, and knoulechen to thi greet name, and comen, and worschipen, and bisechen thee in this hows,
34 alors, toi, écoute dans les cieux, et pardonne le péché de ton peuple Israël; et fais-les retourner dans la terre que tu as donnée à leurs pères.
here thou in heuene, and foryyue thou the synne of thi puple; and thou schalt lede hem ayen in to the lond, which thou hast youe to the fadris of hem.
35 Quand les cieux seront fermés et qu’il n’y aura pas de pluie, parce qu’ils auront péché contre toi, s’ils prient [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci, et qu’ils confessent ton nom et reviennent de leur péché, parce que tu les auras affligés:
If heuene is closid, and reyneth not for the synnes of hem, and thei preyen in this place, and doen penaunce to thi name, and ben conuertid fro her synnes for her turment,
36 alors, toi, écoute dans les cieux, et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple Israël, quand tu leur auras enseigné le bon chemin dans lequel ils doivent marcher; et donne la pluie sur ton pays que tu as donné en héritage à ton peuple.
here thou hem in heuene, and foryyue thou the synnes of thi seruauntis, and of thi puple Israel, and schewe thou to hem good weie, bi which thei schulen go, and yyue thou reyn to hem on the lond, which thou hast youe to hem in to possessioun.
37 S’il y a famine dans le pays, s’il y a peste, s’il y a brûlure, rouille, sauterelles, locustes, si son ennemi l’assiège dans le pays de ses portes, quelque plaie, quelque maladie qu’il y ait,
If hungur risith in the lond, ether pestilence is, ether corrupt eyr is, ether rust, ether locuste, ether myldew, and his enemy turmentith hym, and bisegith the yatis, al wounde, al sikenesse, al cursyng,
38 quelle que soit la prière, quelle que soit la supplication que fera un homme quelconque de tout ton peuple Israël, quand ils reconnaîtront chacun la plaie de son propre cœur et qu’ils étendront leurs mains vers cette maison:
and wichyng of yuel, that bifallith to ech man of thi puple Israel, if ony man knowith the wounde of his herte, and holdith forth hise hondis in this hows,
39 alors, toi, écoute dans les cieux, le lieu de ton habitation, et pardonne, et agis, et donne à chacun selon toutes ses voies, suivant que tu connais son cœur (car tu connais, toi seul, le cœur de tous les fils des hommes),
thou schalt here in heuene, in the place of thi dwellyng, and thou schalt do mercy, and thou schalt do that thou yyue to ech man vpe alle hise weies, as thou seest his herte; for thou aloone knowist the herte of alle the sones of men,
40 afin qu’ils te craignent tous les jours qu’ils vivront sur la face de la terre que tu as donnée à nos pères.
that thei drede thee in alle daies in whiche thei lyuen on the face of the lond, which thou hast youe to oure fadrys.
41 Et quant à l’étranger aussi, qui ne sera pas de ton peuple Israël, mais qui viendra d’un pays lointain à cause de ton nom
Ferthermore and whanne an alien, which is not of thi puple Israel, cometh fro a fer lond for thi name; for thi grete name, and thi strong hond,
42 (car ils entendront parler de ton grand nom, et de ta main forte, et de ton bras étendu), s’il vient et présente sa prière [en se tournant] vers cette maison:
and thin arm `holdun forth schal be herd euery where; therfor whanne he cometh, and preieth in this place,
43 toi, écoute dans les cieux, le lieu de ton habitation, et agis selon tout ce que l’étranger réclamera de toi; afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton nom, [et] te craignent, comme ton peuple Israël, et qu’ils sachent que cette maison que j’ai bâtie est appelée de ton nom.
thou schalt here in heuene, in the firmament of thi dwellyng place, and thou schalt do alle thingis, for whiche the alien clepith thee, that alle puplis of londis lerne to drede thi name, as thi puple Israel doith, and preue, that thi name is clepid on this hows, which Y bildide.
44 Lorsque ton peuple sortira pour la guerre contre son ennemi, par le chemin par lequel tu l’auras envoyé, et qu’ils prieront l’Éternel, en se tournant vers la ville que tu as choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie pour ton nom:
If thi puple goith out to batel ayens hise enemyes, bi the weie whidir euer thou sendist hem, thei schulen preye thee ayens the weie of the citee which thou hast chose, and ayens the hows which Y bildide to thi name,
45 alors, écoute dans les cieux leur prière et leur supplication, et fais-leur droit.
and thou schalt here in heuene the preyeris of hem, and the bisechyngis of hem, and thou schalt make the doom of hem.
46 S’ils ont péché contre toi (car il n’y a point d’homme qui ne pèche), et que tu te sois irrité contre eux, et que tu les aies livrés à l’ennemi, et qu’ils les aient emmenés captifs dans le pays de l’ennemi, loin ou près,
That if thei synnen to thee, for no man is that synneth not, and thou art wrooth, and bitakist hem to her enemyes, and thei ben led prisoneris in to the lond of enemyes,
47 et que, dans le pays où ils auront été emmenés captifs, ils rentrent en eux-mêmes, et reviennent [à toi] et te supplient, dans le pays de ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs, disant: Nous avons péché, et nous avons commis l’iniquité, nous avons agi méchamment;
fer ether nyy, and thei doon penaunce in her herte in the place of prisonyng, and ben conuertid, and bisechen in her prisonyng, and seien, We han synned, we han do wickidli, we han do vnfeithfuli;
48 et s’ils reviennent à toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leurs ennemis qui les ont emmenés captifs, et qu’ils te prient en se tournant vers leur pays, que tu as donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que tu as choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie pour ton nom:
and thei turnen ayen to thee in al her herte and al her soule, in the lond of her enemyes, to which thei ben led prisoneris, and thei preyen thee ayens the weie of her lond which thou hast youe to her fadris, and of the citee which thou hast chose, and of the temple which Y bildide to thi name, thou schalt here in heuene,
49 alors, écoute dans les cieux, le lieu de ton habitation, leur prière et leur supplication, et fais-leur droit,
in the firmament of thi seete, the preiers of hem, and the bisechingis of hem, and thou shalt make the doom of hem;
50 et pardonne à ton peuple ce en quoi ils ont péché contre toi, et toutes leurs transgressions qu’ils ont commises contre toi, et donne-leur de trouver compassion auprès de ceux qui les ont emmenés captifs, en sorte que ceux-ci aient compassion d’eux;
and thou schalt be merciful to thi puple, that synnede to thee, and to alle the wickidnessis, bi whiche thei trespassiden ayens thee; and thou schalt do merci bifor tho men, that hadden hem prisoneris, that tho men do mercy to hem.
51 car ils sont ton peuple et ton héritage, que tu as fait sortir d’Égypte, du milieu de la fournaise de fer,
For it is thi puple, and thin erytage, whiche thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt, fro the myddis of yrone furneis;
52 – tes yeux étant ouverts à la supplication de ton serviteur et à la supplication de ton peuple Israël, pour les entendre dans tout ce pour quoi ils crieront à toi;
that thin yyen be opyn to the bisechyng of thi seruaunt, and of thi puple Israel; and thou schalt here hem in alle thingis, for whiche thei clepen thee.
53 car tu les as mis à part [en les séparant] de tous les peuples de la terre pour être ton héritage, selon ce que tu as dit par ton serviteur Moïse, quand tu fis sortir d’Égypte nos pères, ô Seigneur Éternel!
For thou hast departid hem to thee in to heritage fro alle the puplis of erthe, as thou spakist bi Moyses, thi seruaunt, whanne thou, Lord God, leddist oure fadris out of Egipt.
54 Et il arriva que, quand Salomon eut achevé d’adresser à l’Éternel toute cette prière et cette supplication, il se leva de devant l’autel de l’Éternel, où il était à genoux, ses mains étendues vers les cieux;
Forsothe it was don, whanne Salomon, preiynge the Lord, hadde fillid al this preier and bisechyng, he roos fro the siyt of the auter of the Lord; for he hadde set fast euer either kne to the erthe, and hadde holde forth the hondis to heuene.
55 et il se tint debout et bénit à haute voix toute la congrégation d’Israël, disant:
Therfor he stood, and blesside al the chirche of Israel, and seide with greet vois,
56 Béni soit l’Éternel, qui a donné du repos à son peuple Israël, selon tout ce qu’il avait dit! Pas un mot de toute sa bonne parole qu’il prononça par Moïse, son serviteur, n’est tombé [à terre].
Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, that yaf reste to his puple Israel, bi alle thingis whiche he spak; a word felde not doun, sotheli nether oon, of alle goodis whiche he spak bi Moises, his seruaunt.
57 Que l’Éternel, notre Dieu, soit avec nous comme il a été avec nos pères, (qu’il ne nous abandonne pas et ne nous délaisse pas)
Oure Lord God be with vs, as he was with oure fadris, and forsake not vs, nether caste awey;
58 pour incliner nos cœurs vers lui, pour que nous marchions dans toutes ses voies et que nous gardions ses commandements et ses statuts et ses ordonnances, qu’il a commandés à nos pères.
but bowe he oure hertis to hym silf, that we go in alle hise weies, and kepe hise comaundementis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche euere he comaundide to oure fadris.
59 Et que ces miennes paroles, par lesquelles j’ai fait ma supplication devant l’Éternel, soient présentes à l’Éternel, notre Dieu, jour et nuit, pour qu’il fasse droit à son serviteur et droit à son peuple Israël, chaque jour selon que le cas le demande;
And these wordis of me, bi whiche Y preiede bifor the Lord, be neiyynge to oure Lord God bi dai and niyt, that he make doom to his seruaunt, and to his puple Israel bi alle daies;
60 afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent que l’Éternel, lui, est Dieu, qu’il n’y en a pas d’autre.
and alle the puplis of erthe wite, that the Lord hym silf is God, and noon `is ouer `with out hym.
61 Et que votre cœur soit parfait avec l’Éternel, notre Dieu, pour marcher dans ses statuts et pour garder ses commandements, comme il en est aujourd’hui.
Also oure herte be perfit with oure Lord God, that we go in hise domes, and kepe hise comaundementis, as and to dai.
62 Et le roi et tout Israël avec lui sacrifièrent des sacrifices devant l’Éternel.
Therfor the kyng, and al Israel with hym, offriden sacrifices bifor the Lord.
63 Et Salomon offrit, pour le sacrifice de prospérités qu’il offrit à l’Éternel, 22 000 bœufs et 120 000 moutons. Et le roi et tous les fils d’Israël firent la dédicace de la maison de l’Éternel.
And Salomon killide pesible sacrifices, whiche he offride to the Lord; of oxis two and twenti thousynde, and of scheep sixe score thousynde; and the king and the sones of Israel halewiden the temple of the Lord.
64 En ce jour-là le roi sanctifia le milieu du parvis qui était devant la maison de l’Éternel; car il offrit là l’holocauste, et l’offrande de gâteau, et la graisse des sacrifices de prospérités, parce que l’autel d’airain qui était devant l’Éternel était trop petit pour recevoir l’holocauste, et l’offrande de gâteau, et la graisse des sacrifices de prospérités.
In that dai the kyng halewide the myddil of the greet street, that was bifor the hows of the Lord; for he made there brent sacrifice, and sacrifice, and the innere fatnesse of pesible thingis; for the brasun auter that was bifor the Lord, was to litil, and myyte not take the brent sacrifice, and the sacrifice, and the ynnere fatnesse of pesible thingis.
65 Et en ce temps-là, Salomon et tout Israël avec lui, une grande congrégation, depuis l’entrée de Hamath jusqu’au torrent d’Égypte, célébrèrent la fête devant l’Éternel, notre Dieu, sept jours, et sept jours: 14 jours.
Therfor Salomon made in that tyme a solempne feeste, and al Israel with hym, a grete multitude, fro the entryng of Emath `til to the stronde of Egipt, bifor oure Lord God, in seuene daies and seuene daies, that is, fourtene daies.
66 Le huitième jour, il renvoya le peuple; et ils bénirent le roi, et s’en allèrent à leurs tentes, joyeux et le cœur heureux à cause de tout le bien que l’Éternel avait fait à David, son serviteur, et à Israël, son peuple.
And in the eiythe day he delyueryde the puplis, whiche blessiden the kyng, and yeden forth in to her tabernaclis, and weren glade and of ioyful herte on alle the goodis whiche God hadde do to Dauid, his seruaunt, and to Israel, his puple.
