1 Et Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya ses serviteurs vers Salomon, car il avait entendu qu’on l’avait oint pour roi à la place de son père; car Hiram avait toujours aimé David.
And Hiram king of Tyre sendeth his servants unto Solomon, for he heard that they had anointed him for king instead of his father, for Hiram was a lover of David all the days;
2 Et Salomon envoya vers Hiram, disant:
and Solomon sendeth unto Hiram, saying,
3 Tu sais, quant à David, mon père, qu’il ne put bâtir une maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, son Dieu, à cause de la guerre dont [ses ennemis] l’entourèrent jusqu’à ce que l’Éternel les mit sous la plante de ses pieds.
'Thou hast known David my father, that he hath not been able to build a house to the name of Jehovah his God, because of the wars that have been round about him, till Jehovah's putting them under the soles of his feet.
4 Mais maintenant l’Éternel, mon Dieu, m’a donné de la tranquillité de tous les côtés; il n’y a ni adversaire ni événement fâcheux.
'And now, Jehovah my God hath given rest to me round about, there is no adversary nor evil occurrence,
5 Et voici, j’ai résolu de bâtir une maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, mon Dieu, ainsi que l’Éternel a parlé à David, mon père, disant: Ton fils, que je mettrai à ta place sur ton trône, lui, bâtira une maison à mon nom.
and lo, I am saying to build a house to the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son whom I appoint in thy stead on thy throne, he doth build the house for My name.
6 Et maintenant, commande qu’on me coupe des cèdres dans le Liban; et mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs, et je te donnerai les gages de tes serviteurs selon tout ce que tu [me] diras; car tu sais qu’il n’y a personne parmi nous qui s’entende à couper le bois comme les Sidoniens.
'And now, command, and they cut down for me cedars out of Lebanon, and my servants are with thy servants, and the hire of thy servants I give to thee according to all that thou sayest, for thou hast known that there is not among us a man acquainted with cutting wood, like the Sidonians.'
7 Et il arriva, quand Hiram entendit les paroles de Salomon, qu’il s’en réjouit beaucoup; et il dit: Béni soit aujourd’hui l’Éternel, qui a donné à David un fils sage, sur ce grand peuple!
And it cometh to pass at Hiram's hearing the words of Solomon, that he rejoiceth exceedingly, and saith, 'Blessed [is] Jehovah to-day, who hath given to David a wise son over this numerous people.'
8 Et Hiram envoya à Salomon, disant: J’ai entendu ce que tu m’as envoyé [dire]; je ferai tout ce que tu désires, à l’égard des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès.
And Hiram sendeth unto Solomon, saying, I have heard that which thou hast sent unto me, I do all thy desire concerning cedar-wood, and fir-wood,
9 Mes serviteurs les descendront du Liban à la mer, et je les mettrai en radeaux sur la mer [pour les faire passer] jusqu’au lieu que tu m’enverras [dire]; et je les ferai délier là, et tu les enlèveras. Et toi, tu accompliras mon désir, en donnant du pain à ma maison.
my servants bring down from Lebanon to the sea, and I make them floats in the sea unto the place that thou sendest unto me, and I have spread them out there; and thou dost take [them] up, and thou dost execute my desire, to give the food of my house.'
10 Et Hiram donna à Salomon des bois de cèdre, et des bois de cyprès, tout ce qu’il désirait;
And Hiram is giving to Solomon cedar-trees, and fir-trees, all his desire,
11 et Salomon donna à Hiram 20 000 cors de froment pour nourrir sa maison, et 20 cors d’huile fine. C’est là ce que Salomon donna à Hiram chaque année.
and Solomon hath given to Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat, food for his house, and twenty cors of beaten oil; thus doth Solomon give to Hiram year by year.
12 Et l’Éternel donna de la sagesse à Salomon, comme il le lui avait dit. Et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils firent alliance eux deux.
And Jehovah hath given wisdom to Solomon as He spake to him, and there is peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they make a covenant both of them.
13 Et le roi Salomon fit une levée sur tout Israël, et la levée fut de 30 000 hommes.
And king Solomon lifteth up a tribute out of all Israel, and the tribute is thirty thousand men,
14 Et il les envoya au Liban, 10 000 par mois, par relais: ils étaient un mois au Liban, deux mois à la maison; et Adoniram était [préposé] sur la levée.
and he sendeth them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month, by changes, a month they are in Lebanon, two months in their own house; and Adoniram [is] over the tribute.
15 Et Salomon avait 70 000 [hommes] qui portaient des fardeaux, et 80 000 qui taillaient [la pierre] sur la montagne,
And king Solomon hath seventy thousand bearing burdens, and eighty thousand hewing in the mountain,
16 outre les chefs, les intendants de Salomon, qui étaient [préposés] sur l’œuvre, 3 300, qui avaient autorité sur le peuple qui travaillait à l’œuvre.
apart from the heads of the officers of Solomon, who [are] over the work, three thousand and three hundred, those ruling over the people who are working in the business.
17 Et le roi commanda, et on transporta de grandes pierres, des pierres de prix, pour faire les fondements de la maison, des pierres de taille.
And the king commandeth, and they bring great stones, precious stone, to lay the foundation of the house, hewn stones;
18 Et les ouvriers de Salomon et les ouvriers de Hiram, et les Guibliens, taillèrent et préparèrent le bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.
and the builders of Solomon, and the builders of Hiram, and the Giblites hew, and prepare the wood and the stones to build the house.
