1 Chroniques 23
1 Et David était vieux et rassasié de jours, et il établit Salomon, son fils, roi sur Israël.
And when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2 Et il assembla tous les chefs d’Israël, et les sacrificateurs, et les Lévites.
And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
3 Et on dénombra les Lévites, depuis l’âge de 30 ans et au-dessus; et leur nombre, par tête, par homme, fut de 38 000.
And then were numbered the Levites from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, of men, was thirty and eight thousand.
4 Il y en eut d’entre eux 24 000 pour diriger l’œuvre de la maison de l’Éternel, et 6 000 intendants et juges,
Of these were twenty and four thousand to superintend the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges;
5 et 4 000 portiers, et 4 000 qui louaient l’Éternel avec les instruments, que j’ai faits, [dit David, ] pour louer.
And four thousand were gatekeepers: and four thousand those who praised the Lord with the instruments which I have made, to praise therewith.
6 Et David les distribua en classes d’après les fils de Lévi, Guershon, Kehath, et Merari.
And David divided them into divisions after the sons of Levi, after Gershon, Kehath, and Merari.
7 Des Guershonites: Lahdan et Shimhi.
Of the Gershunites: La'dan, and Shim'i.
8 Les fils de Lahdan: Jekhiel, le premier, et Zétham, et Joël, trois.
The sons of La'dan: The chief was Jechiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9 Les fils de Shimhi: Shelomith, et Haziel, et Haran, trois. Ce sont les chefs des pères de Lahdan.
The sons of Shim'i: Shelomith, and Chaziel, and Haran, three. These were the chiefs of the families of La'dan.
10 Et les fils de Shimhi: Jakhath, Ziza, et Jehush, et Beriha: ce sont les quatre fils de Shimhi.
And the sons of Shim'i were, Jachath, Zina, and Je'ush, and Beri'ah. These four were the sons of Shim'i.
11 Et Jakhath était le chef, et Ziza, le second. Mais Jehush et Beriha n’eurent pas beaucoup de fils; et, par maison de père, ils furent comptés pour une seule classe.
And Jachath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Je'ush and Beri'ah had not many sons: therefore were they accounted as one family division in the numbering.
12 Les fils de Kehath: Amram, Jitsehar, Hébron, et Uziel, quatre.
The sons of Kehath: 'Amram, Yizhar, Hebron, and 'Uzziel, four.
13 Les fils d’Amram: Aaron et Moïse; et Aaron fut séparé pour qu’il soit sanctifié comme très saint, lui et ses fils, à toujours, pour faire fumer [ce qui se brûle] devant l’Éternel, pour faire son service, et pour bénir en son nom, à toujours.
The sons of 'Amram, Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was set apart, to sanctify him as most holy, he with his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.
14 – Et quant à Moïse, homme de Dieu, ses fils furent attribués à la tribu de Lévi.
But as regardeth Moses the man of God, his sons were named after the tribe of Levi.
15 Fils de Moïse: Guershom et Éliézer.
The sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eli'ezer.
16 Fils de Guershom: Shebuel, le chef.
Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.
17 Et les fils d’Éliézer étaient: Rekhabia, le chef; et Éliézer n’eut pas d’autres fils; mais les fils de Rekhabia furent très nombreux.
And the sons of Eli'ezer were, Rechahyah the chief. And Eli'ezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rechahyah became exceedingly numerous.
18 – Fils de Jitsehar: Shelomith, le chef.
Of the sons of Yizhar, was Shelomith the chief.
19 Fils de Hébron: Jerija, le chef; Amaria, le second; Jakhaziel, le troisième; et Jekamham, le quatrième.
The sons of Hebron: Jeriyahu the chief, Amaryah the second, Jachaziel the third, and Jekam'am the fourth.
20 Fils d’Uziel: Michée, le chef, et Jishija, le second.
The sons of 'Uzziel: Michah the chief, and Yishiyah the second.
21 Les fils de Merari: Makhli et Mushi. Fils de Makhli: Éléazar et Kis.
The sons of Merari: Machli, and Mushi. The sons of Machli: El'azar, and Kish.
22 Et Éléazar mourut, et n’eut point de fils, mais des filles; et les fils de Kis, leurs frères, les prirent [pour femmes].
And El'azar died, and had no sons, but daughters; and the sons of Kish, their brethren, took them [for wives].
23 Fils de Mushi: Makhli, et Éder, et Jerémoth, trois.
The sons of Mushi: Machli, and 'Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 Ce sont là les fils de Lévi, selon leurs maisons de pères, les chefs des pères, selon qu’ils furent recensés, en comptant les noms par tête; ils faisaient l’œuvre du service de la maison de l’Éternel, depuis l’âge de 20 ans, et au-dessus;
These were the sons of Levi after their family divisions, even the chiefs of the families, as they were counted by numbering the names after their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and upward.
25 car David dit: L’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, a donné du repos à son peuple, et il demeurera à Jérusalem pour toujours;
For David said, The Lord the God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, and he dwelleth in Jerusalem for evermore.
26 et les Lévites aussi n’auront plus à porter le tabernacle, ni tous les ustensiles pour son service.
And also the Levites are no more bound to carry the tabernacle, and all its vessels for the service thereof.
27 Car c’est selon les dernières paroles de David que se fit le dénombrement des fils de Lévi, depuis l’âge de 20 ans et au-dessus.
Therefore by the last words of David were there numbered of the Levites those who were from twenty years old and above;
28 Car leur place était à côté des fils d’Aaron pour le service de la maison de l’Éternel, [pour veiller] sur les parvis et les chambres, et sur la purification de toutes les choses saintes, et sur l’œuvre du service de la maison de Dieu:
Because their station was to be at the side of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and by the purification of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
29 pour les pains à placer en rangées, et la fleur de farine pour le gâteau et les galettes sans levain, et [ce qui se cuit sur] la plaque, et ce qui est mêlé [avec de l’huile], et toutes les mesures de capacité et de longueur;
And for the shew-bread, which was put in rows, and for the fine flour for meat-offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is sodden, and for all manner of dry and wet measure;
30 et pour se tenir là chaque matin, afin de célébrer et de louer l’Éternel, et de même chaque soir;
And to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and so also at evening,
31 et [pour être de service] pour tous les holocaustes qu’on offrait à l’Éternel, aux sabbats, aux nouvelles lunes, et aux jours solennels, en nombre, conformément à l’ordonnance à leur égard, continuellement, devant l’Éternel.
And at all the offering of burnt-offerings unto the Lord on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the appointed feasts, according to the number, and after the manner prescribed for them, continually before the Lord;
32 Et ils vaquaient à leur charge à l’égard de la tente d’assignation, et à leur charge à l’égard du lieu saint, et à leur charge à l’égard des fils d’Aaron, leurs frères, pour le service de la maison de l’Éternel.
And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.
