Sophonie 1
1 La parole de Yahweh qui fut adressée à Sophonie, fils de Chusi, fils de Godolias, fils d’Amarias, fils d’Ézéchias, dans les jours de Josias, fils d’Amon, roi de Juda.
The word of the Lord which came unto Zephanyah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedalyah, the son of Amaryah, the son of Chizkiyah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon the king of Judah.
2 J’enlèverai tout de dessus la face de la terre, — oracle de Yahweh;
I will remove, utterly remove all things from off the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
3 j’enlèverai les hommes et les bêtes, j’enlèverai les oiseaux du ciel et les poissons de la mer, et les scandales avec les impies, et j’exterminerai l’homme de dessus la face de la terre, – oracle de Yahweh.
I will remove man and beast; I will remove the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks together with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
4 Et j’étendrai ma main sur Juda, et sur tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et j’exterminerai de ce lieu le reste de Baal, le nom de ses ministres en même temps que les prêtres;
And I will stretch out my hand over Judah, and over all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Ba'al from this place, the name of his ministers with his priests;
5 et ceux qui se prosternent sur les toits, devant l’armée des cieux; et ceux qui se prosternent en faisant serment à Yahweh, tout en jurant par leur roi;
And those that bow themselves down on the roofs of houses to the host of heaven; and those that bow themselves down that are sworn [to be true] to the Lord and still swear by Malkom;
6 et ceux qui se détournent de Yahweh, qui ne cherchent pas Yahweh, et ne se soucient pas de lui.
And those that are turned away from following the Lord; and those that have not sought for the Lord, and have not inquired of him.
7 Silence devant le Seigneur Yahweh! Car le jour de Yahweh est proche; car Yahweh a préparé un sacrifice, il a consacré ses invités.
Be silent in the presence of the Lord Eternal; for nigh is the day of the Lord; for the Lord hath prepared a slaughter, he hath bidden his invited guests.
8 Et il arrivera: Au jour du sacrifice de Yahweh, je châtierai les princes, et les fils de roi, et tous ceux qui revêtent des vêtements étrangers.
And it shall come to pass on the day of the Lord's slaughter, that I will inflict punishment on the princes, and on the king's sons, and on all such as are clothed in garments of a foreign land.
9 Et je châtierai en ce jour-là tous ceux qui sautent par-dessus le seuil, qui remplissent de violence et de fraude la maison de leur maître.
And I will inflict punishment on all those that leap over the threshold on that day, who fill the house of their master with violence and deceit.
10 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, — oracle de Yahweh: De la porte des poissons retentiront des cris, de la seconde ville des gémissements, et des collines un grand fracas.
And it shall come to pass on that day, saith the Lord, that there shall be a loud cry of lamentation from the fish-gate, and a wailing from the second, and [that of] a great breach from the hills.
11 Gémissez, habitants du Mortier, car tout le peuple chananéen est anéanti, tous ceux qui sont chargés d’argent sont exterminés.
Wail, ye inhabitants of the mortar-street, for destroyed are all the trading people; cut off are all that were laden with silver.
12 Et il arrivera en ce temps-là: Je fouillerai Jérusalem avec des lanternes, et je châtierai les hommes figés sur leur lie, qui disent en leur cœur: « Yahweh ne fait ni bien ni mal! »
And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem through with lights; and I will inflict punishment on the men that are at rest on their lees, that say in their heart, The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil.
13 Leurs biens seront livrés au pillage, et leurs maisons à la dévastation; ils bâtiront des maisons, et ils n’y habiteront point; ils planteront des vignes, et ils n’en boiront pas le vin.
And their wealth shall become a booty, and their houses shall be made desolate; and they will build houses, but they shall not inhabit them; and they will plant vineyards, but they shall not drink their wine.
14 Il est proche le grand jour de Yahweh, il est proche, il vient en toute hâte! On l’entend venir, le jour de Yahweh! L’homme brave y poussera des cris amers.
Nigh is the great day of the Lord, it is nigh, and hasteneth greatly, [there is] the noise of the day of the Lord: bitterly crieth there the mighty man.
15 C’est un jour de fureur que ce jour-là, un jour d’angoisse et d’affliction, un jour de désolation et de ruine, un jour de ténèbres et d’obscurité, un jour de nuages et d’épais brouillards,
A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anxiety, a day of wasting and desolation, a day of darkness and obscurity, a day of clouds and tempestuous gloom,
16 un jour de trompette et d’alarme, sur les villes fortes et les créneaux élevés.
A day of the cornet and alarm, against the fenced cities, and against the high battlements.
17 Je mettrai les hommes dans la détresse, et ils marcheront comme des aveugles, parce qu’ils ont péché contre Yahweh; leur sang sera répandu comme la poussière; et leur chair comme du fumier.
And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk about like the blind, because against the Lord have they sinned: and their blood shall be poured out like the dust, and their flesh like the dung.
18 Ni leur argent, ni leur or ne pourront les délivrer; au jour de la fureur de Yahweh; par le feu de sa jalousie, toute la terre sera dévorée; car il fera une destruction totale, une ruine soudaine, de tous les habitants de la terre.
Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the Lord's wrath; through the fire of whose zeal the whole land shall be devoured; for destruction, yea, quite sudden, will he prepare for all the inhabitants of the land.
