Psaumes 8

1 Au maître de chant. Sur la Gitthienne. Chant de David. Yahweh, notre Seigneur, que ton nom est glorieux sur toute la terre! Toi qui as revêtu les cieux de ta majesté!

For the Chief Musician; on an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by David. LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!

2 Par la bouche des enfants et de ceux qui sont à la mamelle tu t'es fondé une force pour confondre tes ennemis, pour imposer silence à l'adversaire et au blasphémateur.

From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 Quand je contemple tes cieux, ouvrage de tes doigts, la lune et les étoiles que tu as créées, je m'écrie:

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained,

4 Qu'est-ce que l'homme, pour que tu te souviennes de lui, et le fils de l'homme, pour que tu en prennes soin?

what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?

5 Tu l'as fait de peu inférieur à Dieu, tu l'as couronné de gloire et d'honneur.

For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honour.

6 Tu lui as donné l'empire sur les œuvres de tes mains; tu as mis toutes choses sous ses pieds:

You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

7 Brebis et bœufs, tous ensemble, et les animaux des champs;

All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,

8 oiseaux du ciel et poissons de la mer, et tout ce qui parcourt les sentiers des mers.

the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

9 Yahweh, notre Seigneur, que ton nom est glorieux sur toute la terre!

LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
