Proverbes 8
1 La sagesse ne crie-t-elle pas, l’intelligence n’élève-t-elle pas sa voix?
Doth not wisedome crie? and vnderstanding vtter her voyce?
2 C’est au sommet des hauteurs, sur la route, à la jonction des chemins, qu’elle se place;
She standeth in the top of the high places by the way in the place of the paths.
3 près des portes, aux abords de la ville, à l’entrée des portes, elle fait entendre sa voix:
She cryeth besides the gates before the citie at the entrie of the doores,
4 « Hommes, c’est à vous que je crie, et ma voix s’adresse aux enfants des hommes.
O men, I call vnto you, and vtter my voyce to the children of men.
5 Simples, apprenez la prudence; insensés, apprenez l’intelligence.
O ye foolish men, vnderstand wisedome, and ye, O fooles, be wise in heart.
6 Écoutez, car j’ai à dire des choses magnifiques, et mes lèvres s’ouvrent pour enseigner ce qui est droit.
Giue eare, for I will speake of excellent things, and the opening of my lippes, shall teache things that be right.
7 « Car ma bouche proclame la vérité, et mes lèvres ont l’iniquité en horreur.
For my mouth shall speake the trueth, and my lippes abhorre wickednesse.
8 Toutes les paroles de ma bouche sont justes; il n’y a en elles rien de faux ni de tortueux.
All the wordes of my mouth are righteous: there is no lewdenes, nor frowardnesse in them.
9 Toutes sont justes pour celui qui est intelligent, et droites pour ceux qui ont trouvé la science.
They are all plaine to him that will vnderstande, and streight to them that woulde finde knowledge.
10 Recevez mon instruction plutôt que l’argent, et la science plutôt que l’or pur.
Receiue mine instruction, and not siluer, and knowledge rather then fine golde.
11 Car la sagesse vaut mieux que les perles, et les objets les plus précieux ne l’égalent pas.
For wisdome is better then precious stones: and all pleasures are not to be compared vnto her.
12 « Moi, la sagesse, j’habite avec la prudence, et je possède la science de la réflexion.
I wisdome dwell with prudence, and I find foorth knowledge and counsels.
13 La crainte de Yahweh, c’est la haine du mal; l’arrogance et l’orgueil, la voie du mal et la bouche perverse, voilà ce que je hais.
The feare of the Lord is to hate euill as pride, and arrogancie, and the euill way: and a mouth that speaketh lewde things, I doe hate.
14 Le conseil et le succès m’appartiennent; je suis l’intelligence, la force est à moi.
I haue counsell and wisedome: I am vnderstanding, and I haue strength.
15 Par moi les rois règnent, et les princes ordonnent ce qui est juste.
By me, Kings reigne, and princes decree iustice.
16 Par moi gouvernent les chefs, et les grands, — tous les juges de la terre.
By me princes rule and the nobles, and all the iudges of the earth.
17 J’aime ceux qui m’aiment, et ceux qui me cherchent avec empressement me trouvent.
I loue them that loue me: and they that seeke me earely, shall finde me.
18 Avec moi sont les richesses et la gloire, les biens durables et la justice.
Riches and honour are with me: euen durable riches and righteousnesse.
19 Mon fruit vaut mieux que l’or, que l’or pur, et ce qui vient de moi mieux que l’argent éprouvé.
My fruite is better then golde, euen then fine golde, and my reuenues better then fine siluer.
20 Je marche dans le chemin de la justice, au milieu des sentiers du jugement,
I cause to walke in the way of righteousnes, and in the middes of the paths of iudgement,
21 pour donner des biens à ceux qui m’aiment, et combler leurs trésors.
That I may cause them that loue me, to inherite substance, and I will fill their treasures.
22 « Yahweh m’a possédée au commencement de ses voies, avant ses œuvres les plus anciennes.
The Lord hath possessed me in the beginning of his way: I was before his workes of olde.
23 J’ai été fondée dès l’éternité, dès le commencement, avant les origines de la terre.
I was set vp from euerlasting, from the beginning and before the earth.
24 Il n’y avait point d’abîmes quand je fus enfantée, point de sources chargées d’eaux.
When there were no depths, was I begotten, when there were no fountaines abounding with water.
25 Avant que les montagnes fussent affermies, avant les collines, j’étais enfantée,
Before the mountaines were setled: and before the hilles, was I begotten.
26 lorsqu’il n’avait encore fait ni la terre, ni les plaines, ni les premiers éléments de la poussière du globe.
He had not yet made the earth, nor the open places, nor the height of the dust in the worlde.
27 Lorsqu’il disposa les cieux, j’étais là, lorsqu’il traça un cercle à la surface de l’abîme,
When hee prepared the heauens, I was there, when he set the compasse vpon the deepe.
28 lorsqu’il affermit les nuages en haut, et qu’il dompta les sources de l’abîme,
When he established the cloudes aboue, when he confirmed the fountaines of the deepe,
29 lorsqu’il fixa sa limite à la mer, pour que les eaux n’en franchissent pas les bords, lorsqu’il posa les fondements de la terre.
When he gaue his decree to the Sea, that the waters shoulde not passe his commandement: when he appointed the foundations of the earth,
30 J’étais à l’œuvre auprès de lui, me réjouissant chaque jour, et jouant sans cesse en sa présence,
Then was I with him as a nourisher, and I was dayly his delight reioycing alway before him,
31 jouant sur le globe de sa terre, et trouvant mes délices parmi les enfants des hommes.
And tooke my solace in the compasse of his earth: and my delite is with the children of men.
32 « Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi; heureux ceux qui gardent mes voies!
Therefore nowe hearken, O children, vnto me: for blessed are they that keepe my wayes.
33 Écoutez l’instruction pour devenir sages; ne la rejetez pas.
Heare instruction, and be ye wise, and refuse it not:
34 Heureux l’homme qui m’écoute, qui veille chaque jour à mes portes, et qui en garde les montants!
blessed is the man that heareth mee, watching dayly at my gates, and giuing attendance at the postes of my doores.
35 Car celui qui me trouve a trouvé la vie, et il obtient la faveur de Yahweh.
For he that findeth me, findeth life, and shall obteine fauour of the Lord.
36 Mais celui qui m’offense blesse son âme; tous ceux qui me haïssent aiment la mort. »
But he that sinneth against me, hurteth his owne soule: and all that hate me, loue death.
