Proverbes 16
1 À l’homme de former des projets dans son cœur, mais la réponse de la langue vient de Yahweh.
The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, [are] from the LORD.
2 Toutes les voies de l’homme sont pures à ses yeux, mais Yahweh pèse les esprits.
All the ways of a man [are] clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
3 Recommande tes œuvres à Yahweh, et tes projets réussiront.
Commit thy works to the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4 Yahweh a tout fait pour son but, et le méchant lui-même pour le jour du malheur.
The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Quiconque a le cœur hautain est en abomination à Yahweh; sûrement, il ne sera pas impuni.
Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6 Par la bonté et la fidélité on expie l’iniquité, et par la crainte de Yahweh on se détourne du mal.
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD [men] depart from evil.
7 Quand Yahweh a pour agréables les voies d’un homme, il réconcilie avec lui ses ennemis mêmes.
When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Mieux vaut peu avec la justice, que de grands revenus avec l’injustice.
Better [is] a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right.
9 Le cœur de l’homme médite sa voie, mais c’est Yahweh qui dirige ses pas. Devoirs des rois; leur faveur.
A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
10 Des oracles sont sur les lèvres du roi; que sa bouche ne pèche pas quand il juge!
A divine sentence [is] in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
11 La balance et les plateaux justes sont de Yahweh, tous les poids du sac sont son ouvrage.
A just weight and balance [are] the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag [are] his work.
12 C’est une abomination pour les rois de faire le mal, car c’est par la justice que le trône s’affermit.
[It is] an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Les lèvres justes jouissent de la faveur des rois, et ils aiment celui qui parle avec droiture.
Righteous lips [are] the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14 La fureur du roi est un messager de mort, mais un homme sage l’apaise.
The wrath of a king [is as] messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15 La sérénité du visage du roi donne la vie, et sa faveur est comme la pluie du printemps.
In the light of a king's countenance [is] life; and his favor [is] as a cloud of the latter rain.
16 Acquérir la sagesse vaut bien mieux que l’or; acquérir l’intelligence est bien préférable à l’argent.
How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold? and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver?
17 Le grand chemin des hommes droits, c’est d’éviter le mal; celui-là garde son âme qui veille sur sa voie.
The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18 L’orgueil précède la ruine, et la fierté précède la chute.
Pride [goeth] before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Mieux vaut être humble avec les petits que de partager le butin avec les orgueilleux.
Better [it is to be] of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 Celui qui est attentif à la parole trouve le bonheur, et celui qui se confie en Yahweh est heureux.
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever trusteth in the LORD, happy [is] he.
21 Celui qui est sage de cœur est appelé intelligent, et la douceur des lèvres augmente le savoir.
The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22 La sagesse est une source de vie pour celui qui la possède, et le châtiment de l’insensé, c’est sa folie.
Understanding [is] a well-spring of life to him that hath it: but the instruction of fools [is] folly.
23 Le cœur du sage donne la sagesse à sa bouche, et sur ses lèvres accroît le savoir.
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
24 Les bonnes paroles sont un rayon de miel, douces à l’âme et salutaires au corps.
Pleasant words [are as] a honey-comb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Telle voie paraît droite à un homme, mais son issue, c’est la voie de la mort.
There is a way that seemeth right to a man, but the end of it [is] the ways of death.
26 Le travailleur travaille pour lui, car sa bouche l’y excite.
He that laboreth laboreth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
27 L’homme pervers prépare le malheur, et il y a sur ses lèvres comme un feu ardent.
An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips [there is] as a burning fire.
28 L’homme pervers excite des querelles, et le rapporteur divise les amis.
A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
29 L’homme violent séduit son prochain, et le conduit dans une voie qui n’est pas bonne.
A violent man enticeth his neighbor, and leadeth him into the way [that is] not good.
30 Celui qui ferme les yeux pour méditer la tromperie, celui qui pince les lèvres, commet déjà le mal.
He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31 Les cheveux blancs sont une couronne d’honneur; c’est dans le chemin de la justice qu’on la trouve.
The hoary head [is] a crown of glory, [if] it is found in the way of righteousness.
32 Celui qui est lent à la colère vaut mieux qu’un héros; et celui qui domine son esprit, que le guerrier qui prend les villes.
[He that is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.
33 On jette les sorts dans le pan de la robe, mais de Yahweh vient toute décision.
The lot is cast into the lap: but the whole disposing of it [is] from the LORD.
