Philémon 1
1 Paul, prisonnier du Christ Jésus et Timothée, notre frère
Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our beloved friend and fellow worker,
2 à Philémon notre très cher ami et collaborateur, à Appia, notre sœur, à Archippe, notre compagnon d’armes, et à l’Église qui est dans ta maison:
and also to the beloved Apphia, to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church that meets in yoʋr house:
3 à vous grâce et paix de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Me souvenant sans cesse de toi dans mes prières je rends grâces à mon Dieu;
I give thanks to my God, always making mention of yoʋ in my prayers,
5 car j’apprends quelles sont ta charité et ta foi à l’égard du Seigneur Jésus et envers tous les saints:
because I hear of yoʋr love for all the saints and the faith that yoʋ have toward the Lord Jesus.
6 Puisse la générosité inspirée par ta foi devenir efficace et se faire connaître par tout le bien accompli parmi nous en vue du Christ.
I pray that yoʋr fellowship with us in the faith may be effective in deepening yoʋr understanding of every blessing that we have in Christ Jesus.
7 En effet, ta charité m’a comblé de joie et de consolation, parce que les cœurs des saints ont été ranimés par toi, frère.
We are very thankful for the comfort we have received from yoʋr love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through yoʋ, brother.
8 Voilà pourquoi, bien que j’ai dans le Christ toute liberté de te prescrire ce qu’il convient de faire,
Therefore, although I am bold enough in Christ to command yoʋ to do what is right,
9 j’aime mieux, au nom de cette charité, t’en supplier. Tel que je suis, moi, Paul, vieux, et de plus actuellement prisonnier pour Jésus-Christ,
I would rather appeal to yoʋ on the basis of love. I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner for Jesus Christ,
10 je te supplie donc pour mon fils, que j’ai engendré dans les fers, pour Onésime,
appeal to yoʋ on behalf of my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become during my imprisonment.
11 qui autrefois ne t’a guère été utile, mais qui maintenant l’est vraiment, et à toi et à moi.
Once he was useless to yoʋ, but now he is useful both to yoʋ and to me. I am sending him back,
12 Je te le renvoie, lui, mon propre cœur.
and I ask yoʋ to receive him, that is, my very own heart.
13 Je l’aurais volontiers retenu près de moi, afin qu’il me servit à ta place dans les chaînes que je porte pour l’Évangile.
I wanted to keep him with me so that he could serve me in yoʋr place during my imprisonment for the gospel.
14 Mais je n’ai voulu rien faire sans ton assentiment, pour que ton bienfait ne paraisse pas forcé, mais qu’il vienne de ton plein gré.
But I did not want to do anything without yoʋr consent, so that yoʋr good deed would not be done out of compulsion, but of yoʋr own free will.
15 Peut-être aussi Onésime n’a-t-il été séparé de toi pour un temps, qu’afin que tu le recouvres à jamais, (aiōnios g166)
Perhaps the reason he was separated from yoʋ for an hour was so that yoʋ might have him back forever, (aiōnios g166)
16 non plus comme un esclave, mais bien mieux qu’un esclave, comme un frère bien-aimé, tout particulièrement aimé de moi, et combien plus de toi, aussi bien selon la chair que selon le Seigneur?
no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, especially to me, but even more so to yoʋ, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
17 Si donc tu me tiens pour étroitement uni à toi, accueille-le comme moi-même.
So if yoʋ consider me to be a partner, receive him as yoʋ would receive me.
18 Et s’il t’a fait tort, s’il te doit quelque chose, passe-le à mon compte.
If he has wronged yoʋ in any way or owes yoʋ anything, charge it to me.
19 C’est moi Paul, qui écris ceci de ma propre main; moi je te le rendrai, pour ne pas te dire que tu es mon débiteur, et même de ta propre personne.
I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it (not to mention that yoʋ owe me yoʋr very own life).
20 Oui, frère, que j’obtienne de toi cette satisfaction dans le Seigneur; réjouis mes entrailles dans le Christ.
Yes, brother, let me have some benefit from yoʋ in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord.
21 Je t’écris ceci plein de confiance en ta docilité, sachant que tu feras même au delà de ce que je demande.
Trusting in yoʋr obedience, I write to yoʋ, knowing that yoʋ will do even more than I ask.
22 En même temps, prépare aussi pour moi l’hospitalité; car j’espère vous être rendu, grâce à vos prières.
At the same time, I want yoʋ to prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you soon.
23 Épaphras, mon compagnon de captivité en Jésus-Christ, te salue,
Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus,
24 ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes collaborateurs.
and Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers, greet yoʋ.
25 Que la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, soit avec votre esprit! Amen!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
