Néhémie 5

1 Et il s'éleva une grande plainte des gens du peuple et de leurs femmes contre leurs frères les Juifs.

Nowe there was a great crie of the people, and of their wiues against their brethren the Iewes.

2 Il y en avait qui disaient: " Nous, nos fils et nos filles, nous sommes nombreux; recevons du blé, afin que nous mangions et que nous vivions. "

For there were that said, We, our sonnes and our daughters are many, therefore we take vp corne, that we may eate and liue.

3 Il y en avait qui disaient: " Nous engageons nos champs, nos vignes et nos maisons pour recevoir du blé durant la famine. "

And there were that saide, We must gage our landes, and our vineyardes, and our houses, and take vp corne for the famine.

4 Il y en avait qui disaient: " Nous avons, pour payer le tribut du roi, emprunté de l'argent sur nos champs et nos vignes.

There were also that said, We haue borowed money for the Kings tribute vpon our landes and our vineyardes.

5 Et maintenant, notre chair est comme la chair de nos frères, nos enfants sont comme leurs enfants; et voici que nous soumettons à la servitude nos fils et nos filles, et il y a de nos filles qui sont déjà servantes!... Et nous n'y pouvons rien, car nos champs et nos vignes sont à d'autres. "

And nowe our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, and our sonnes as their sonnes: and lo, we bring into subiection our sonnes and our daughters, as seruants, and there be of our daughters nowe in subiection, and there is no power in our handes: for other men haue our landes and our vineyardes.

6 Je fus très irrité lorsque j'entendis leurs plaintes et ces paroles.

Then was I very angrie when I heard their crie and these wordes.

7 Et, après avoir réfléchi en moi-même, j'adressai des réprimandes aux grands et aux magistrats, et je leur dis: " Vous prêtez donc à intérêt, chacun à votre frère! " Et, ayant réuni à cause d'eux une grande assemblée,

And I thought in my minde, and I rebuked the princes, and the rulers, and saide vnto them, You lay burthens euery one vpon his brethren: and I set a great assemblie against them,

8 je leur dis: " Nous avons racheté selon notre pouvoir nos frères les Juifs qui étaient vendus aux nations, et vous vendriez vous-mêmes vos frères, et c'est à nous qu'ils seraient vendus!... " Ils se turent, ne trouvant rien à répondre.

And I said vnto them, We (according to our abilitie) haue redeemed our brethren the Iewes, which were solde vnto the heathen: and will you sell your brethren againe, or shall they be solde vnto vs? Then helde they their peace, and could not answere.

9 J'ajoutai: " Ce n'est pas une bonne action que vous faites là! Ne devriez-vous pas marcher dans la crainte de notre Dieu, pour éviter l'insulte des nations, nos ennemies?

I said also, That which ye do, is not good. Ought ye not to walke in the feare of our God, for the reproche of the heathen our enemies?

10 Moi aussi, mes frères et mes serviteurs, nous leur avons prêté de l'argent et du blé. Faisons l'abandon de cette dette.

For euen I, my brethren, and my seruants doe lende them money and corne: I pray you, let vs leaue off this burden.

11 Rendez-leur donc aujourd'hui leurs champs, leurs vignes, leurs oliviers et leurs maisons, et le centième de l'argent, du vin nouveau et de l'huile que vous avez exigé d'eux comme intérêt. "

Restore, I pray you, vnto them this day their landes, their vineyardes, their oliues, and their houses, and remit the hundreth part of the siluer and of the corne, of the wine, and of the oyle that ye exact of them.

12 Ils répondirent: " Nous le rendrons, et nous ne leur demanderons plus rien; nous ferons ce que tu dis. " J'appelai alors les prêtres, et je leur fis jurer qu'ils agiraient selon cette parole.

Then said they, We will restore it, and will not require it of them: we will doe as thou hast said. Then I called the Priestes, and caused them to sweare, that they shoulde doe according to this promise.

13 Et je secouai mon manteau, en disant: " Que Dieu secoue ainsi hors de sa maison et de ses biens tout homme qui n'aura pas tenu cette parole, et qu'ainsi cet homme soit secoué et laissé à vide! " Toute l'assemblée dit: " Amen! " et loua Yahweh; et le peuple agit selon cette parole.

So I shooke my lappe, and said, So let God shake out euery man that wil not perfourme this promise from his house, and from his labour: euen thus let him be shaken out, and emptied. And all the Cogregation said, Amen, and praised the Lord: and the people did according to this promise.

14 Depuis le jour où le roi me chargea d'être leur gouverneur dans le pays de Juda, savoir depuis la vingtième année jusqu'à la trente-deuxième année du roi Artaxerxès, pendant douze ans, ni moi ni mes frères n'avons mangé le pain du gouverneur.

And from the time that the King gaue me charge to be gouernour in the lande of Iudah, from the twentieth yeere, euen vnto the two and thirtieth yeere of King Artahshashte, that is, twelue yeere, I, and my brethren haue not eaten the bread of the gouernour.

15 Les anciens gouverneurs qui m'avaient précédé accablaient le peuple et recevaient de lui du pain et du vin, outre quarante sicles d'argent; leurs serviteurs mêmes opprimaient le peuple; mais moi, je n'ai point agi de la sorte, par crainte de Dieu.

For the former gouernours that were before me, had bene chargeable vnto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, besides fourtie shekels of siluer: yea, and their seruants bare rule ouer the people: but so did not I, because of the feare of God.

16 Et même, je me suis appliqué à l'œuvre de cette muraille; nous n'avons acheté aucun champ, et tous mes gens étaient là rassemblés pour l'œuvre.

But rather I fortified a portion in the worke of this wall, and we bought no lande, and all my seruants came thither together vnto the worke.

17 J'avais à ma table cent cinquante hommes, Juifs et magistrats, outre ceux qui venaient à nous des nations d'alentour.

Moreouer there were at my table an hundreth and fiftie of the Iewes, and rulers, which came vnto vs from among the heathen that are about vs.

18 Voici ce qu'on préparait pour chaque jour: un bœuf, six moutons choisis, de la volaille étaient préparés à mes frais, et, tous les dix jours, tout le vin nécessaire, en abondance. Malgré cela, je n'ai pas réclamé le pain du gouverneur, parce que les travaux pesaient lourdement sur ce peuple.

And there was prepared daily an oxe, and sixe chosen sheepe, and birdes were prepared for me, and within ten dayes wine for all in abundance. Yet for all this I required not the bread of the gouernour: for the bondage was grieuous vnto this people.

19 Souvenez-vous en ma faveur, ô mon Dieu, de tout ce que j'ai fait pour ce peuple!

Remember me, O my God, in goodnesse, according to all that I haue done for this people.
