Nahum 1
1 Oracle sur Ninive. Livre de la Vision de Nahum d'Elqosch.
The oracle, on Nineveh, —the scroll of the vision of Nahum, the Elkoshite.
2 C'est un Dieu jaloux et vengeur que Yahweh; vengeur est Yahweh et connaissant le courroux; Yahweh se venge de ses adversaires, et garde rancune à ses ennemis.
A GOD jealous and avenging, is Yahweh, an avenger, is Yahweh, and a lord of wrath, an avenger, is Yahweh towards his adversaries, and, a retainer [of anger], is he to his foes.
3 Yahweh est patient et grand en force, et il n'accorde pas l'impunité. Yahweh marche dans la tempête et dans l'ouragan, et la nuée est la poussière de ses pieds.
Yahweh, is slow to anger, but great in vigour, He will not leave, unpunished, as for Yahweh, in storm-wind and in tempest, is his way, and, clouds, are the dust of his feet.
4 Il menace la mer et il la dessèche, et il fait tarir tous les fleuves. Basan et le Carmel sont flétris, flétrie est la végétation du Liban.
Who rebuketh the sea and hath made it dry, and, all the streams, hath he dried up, —withered are Bashan and Carmel, Even the bloom of Lebanon, is withered:
5 Les montagnes tremblent devant lui, et les collines se fondent; la terre se soulève devant sa face, le monde et tous ceux qui l'habitent.
Mountains, have trembled because of him, and, the hills, have melted, —and the earth, hath lifted itself up, at his presence, the world also, and all who dwell therein.
6 Devant sa fureur qui subsistera, qui tiendra contre l'ardeur de sa colère? Son courroux se répand comme le feu, et les rochers se brisent devant lui.
Before his indignation, who shall stand? And who shall abide the glow of his anger? His wrath, hath been poured forth like fire, and, the rocks, have been broken down because of him.
7 Yahweh est bon; il est un refuge au jour de la détresse, et il connaît ceux qui se confient en lui.
Good is Yahweh, as a protection in the day of distress, —and one who acknowledgeth them who seek refuge in him.
8 Par un flot débordant il détruira entièrement ce lieu, et il poursuivra ses ennemis jusque dans les ténèbres.
But, with an overflow rolling on, a full end, will he make of them who rise up against him, —and, his foes, will he pursue into darkness.
9 Quelles sont vos pensées sur Yahweh? Il consommera la ruine; la détresse ne surgira pas deux fois.
What can ye devise against Yahweh? A full end, is he making, —Distress, shall not rise up twice:
10 Car, entrelacés comme des épines, et comme ivres de leur vin, ils seront consumés comme de la paille toute sèche.
Though they were like thorns intertwined, and as drunkards drenched with their drink, yet have they been devoured, like stubble fully dry.
11 De toi est sorti celui qui médite le mal contre Yahweh, celui qui forme des desseins criminels.
Out of thee, hath one come forth—plotting, against Yahweh, wickedness, —A counselor of the Abandoned One.
12 Ainsi parte Yahweh: Bien qu'ils soient intacts et nombreux, ils seront moissonnés et disparaîtront. Je t'ai humiliée et je ne t'humilierai plus.
Thus, saith Yahweh, Though they be in full force, and so in great numbers, yet, even so, have they been cut off, and have passed away, —If I humble thee [once], I will not humble thee again.
13 Et maintenant, ô Juda, je briserai son joug de dessus toi, et je romprai tes liens.
Now, therefore, will I break his yoke from off thee, —and, thy fetters, will I tear off.
14 Quant à toi, voici ce qu'a ordonné Yahweh: Il n'y aura plus de postérité de ton nom; je détruirai de la maison de ton Dieu les images taillées et celles de fonte; je prépare ton sépulcre, parce que tu as été léger.
Then will Yahweh give command concerning thee, None of thy name shall be sown any more, —out of the house of thy gods, will I cut off carved image and molten image, I will appoint thy grave, for thou art of little esteem.
15 Voici sur les montagnes les pieds d'un messager de bonnes nouvelles, qui annonce la paix. Célèbre tes fêtes, ô Juda, accomplis tes vœux! Car il ne passera plus chez toi; le méchant est entièrement détruit.
Lo! upon the mountains, The feet of one, who bringeth Good Tidings! who publisheth Prosperity! Celebrate, O Judah, thy pilgrim festivals, fulfil thy vows, for, not again, any more, shall the Abandoned One, pass through thee, he hath been wholly cut off.
