Matthieu 17
1 Six jours après, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean son frère, et les conduisit à l’écart sur une haute montagne.
Now after six days Jesus takes Peter, James and his brother John and leads them up on a high mountain, in private.
2 Et il fut transfiguré devant eux: son visage resplendit comme le soleil, et ses vêtements devinrent blancs comme la lumière.
And He was transfigured before them and his face shone like the sun, while His clothes became as white as the light.
3 Et voilà que Moïse et Élie leur apparurent conversant avec lui.
When wow, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with Him.
4 Prenant la parole, Pierre dit à Jésus: « Seigneur, il nous est bon d’être ici; si vous le voulez, faisons-y trois tentes, une pour vous, une pour Moïse et une pour Élie. »
Then Peter reacted and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, let us make three booths: one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
5 Il parlait encore, lorsqu’une nuée lumineuse les couvrit, et du sein de la nuée une voix se fit entendre, disant: « Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j’ai mis toutes mes complaisances: écoutez-le. »
While he was still speaking a brilliant cloud overshadowed them, and then, a Voice came out of the cloud saying: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am always well pleased. Hear Him!”
6 En entendant cette voix, les disciples tombèrent la face contre terre, et furent saisis d’une grande frayeur.
As the disciples heard it they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.
7 Mais Jésus, s’approchant, les toucha et leur dit: « Levez-vous, ne craignez point. »
Then Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, don't be afraid.”
8 Alors, levant les yeux, ils ne virent plus que Jésus seul.
So lifting up their eyes they saw no one but Jesus only.
9 Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur fit ce commandement: « Ne parlez à personne de cette vision, jusqu’à ce que le Fils de l’homme soit ressuscité des morts. »
As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them saying, “Tell no one the vision until the Son of the Man is risen from the dead.”
10 Ses disciples l’interrogèrent alors, et lui dirent: « Pourquoi donc les Scribes disent-ils qu’il faut qu’Élie vienne auparavant? »
So His disciples questioned Him saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Il leur répondit: « Élie doit venir, en effet, et rétablir toutes choses.
In answer Jesus said to them: “Elijah is indeed coming first, and he will restore all things.
12 Mais je vous le dis, Élie est déjà venu; ils ne l’ont pas connu, et ils l’ont traité comme ils ont voulu: ils feront souffrir de même le Fils de l’homme. »
But I say to you that ‘Elijah’ has come already, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wished. Thus also the Son of the Man is about to suffer at their hands.”
13 Les disciples comprirent alors qu’il leur avait parlé de Jean-Baptiste.
Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptizer.
14 Jésus étant retourné vers le peuple, un homme s’approcha, et, tombant à genoux devant lui, il lui dit:
As they came to the crowd a man approached Him and kneeling to Him said:
15 « Seigneur, ayez pitié de mon fils qui est lunatique et qui souffre cruellement; il tombe souvent dans le feu et souvent dans l’eau.
“Lord, have mercy on my son, because he is moonstruck and suffers badly! For he often falls into the fire and often into the water.
16 Je l’ai présenté à vos disciples, et ils n’ont pas su le guérir. »
So I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
17 Jésus répondit: « Ô race incrédule et perverse, jusques à quand serai-je avec vous? Jusques à quand vous supporterai-je? Amenez-le-moi ici. »
Then in answer Jesus said: “O faithless and perverse generation, how long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.”
18 Et Jésus commanda au démon avec menace, et le démon sortit de l’enfant, qui fut guéri à l’heure même.
And Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that very hour.
19 Alors les disciples vinrent trouver Jésus en particulier, et lui dirent: « Pourquoi n’avons-nous pas pu le chasser? »
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why were we not able to cast it out?”
20 Jésus leur dit: « À cause de votre manque de foi. En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous avez de la foi comme un grain de sénevé, vous direz à cette montagne: Passe d’ici là, et elle y passera, et rien ne vous sera impossible.
So Jesus said to them: “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed has, you (ye) will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
21 Mais ce genre de démon n’est chassé que par le jeûne et la prière. »
However, this class does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
22 Comme ils parcouraient la Galilée, Jésus leur dit: « Le Fils de l’homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes,
While they were staying in Galilee Jesus said to them, “The Son of the Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,
23 et ils le mettront à mort, et il ressuscitera le troisième jour. » Et ils en furent vivement attristés.
and they will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised.” And they were seriously grieved.
24 Lorsqu’ils furent de retour à Capharnaüm, ceux qui recueillaient les didrachmes s’approchèrent de Pierre et lui dirent: « Votre Maître ne paie-t-il pas les didrachmes? » —
When they entered Capernaum those who collected the temple tax approached Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”
25 « Oui, » dit Pierre. Et comme ils entraient dans la maison, Jésus le prévenant, lui dit: « Que t’en semble, Simon? De qui les rois de la terre perçoivent-ils des tributs ou le cens? De leurs fils, ou des étrangers? »
He says, “Yes.” So when they entered the house Jesus anticipated him saying: “Simon, what do you think? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or poll tax, from their sons or from strangers?”
26 Pierre répondit: « Des étrangers, — Les fils, lui dit Jésus, en sont donc exempts.
Peter says to Him, “From the strangers.” Jesus said to him: “Well then, the sons are free.
27 Mais pour ne pas les scandaliser, va à la mer, jette l’hameçon, tire le premier poisson qui montera; puis, ouvrant sa bouche, tu y trouveras un statère. Prends-le et donne-le-leur pour moi et pour toi. »
But, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And opening its mouth you will find a ‘stater’ [a coin]; take that and give it to them for me and you.”
