1 Généalogie de Jésus-Christ, fils de David, fils d’Abraham.
[The] scroll of the birth of Jesus Christ, Son of David, Son of Abraham.
2 Abraham engendra Isaac; Isaac engendra Jacob; Jacob engendra Juda et ses frères;
Abraham begot Isaac, and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers,
3 Juda, de Thamar, engendra Pharès et Zara; Pharès engendra Esron; Esron engendra Aram;
and Judah begot Perez and Zerah of Tamar, and Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram,
4 Aram engendra Aminadab; Aminadab engendra Naasson; Naasson engendra Salmon;
and Ram begot Amminadab, and Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon,
5 Salmon, de Rahab, engendra Booz; Booz, de Ruth, engendra Obed; Obed engendra Jessé; Jessé engendra le roi David.
and Salmon begot Boaz of Rahab, and Boaz begot Obed of Ruth, and Obed begot Jesse,
6 David engendra Salomon, de celle qui fut la femme d’Urie;
and Jesse begot David the king. And David the king begot Solomon, of her [who had been] Uriah’s,
7 Salomon engendra Roboam; Roboam engendra Abias; Abias engendra Asa;
and Solomon begot Rehoboam, and Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa,
8 Asa engendra Josaphat; Josaphat engendra Joram; Joram engendra Ozias;
and Asa begot Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah,
9 Ozias engendra Joathan; Joathan engendra Achaz; Achaz engendra Ezéchias;
and Uzziah begot Jotham, and Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah,
10 Ezéchias engendra Manassé; Manassé engendra Amon; Amon engendra Josias;
and Hezekiah begot Manasseh, and Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah,
11 Josias engendra Jéchonias et ses frères, au temps de la déportation à Babylone.
and Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers, at the Babylonian removal.
12 Et après la déportation à Babylone, Jéchonias engendra Salathiel; Salathiel engendra Zorobabel;
And after the Babylonian removal, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel,
13 Zorobabel engendra Abiud; Abiud engendra Éliacim; Éliacim engendra Azor;
and Zerubbabel begot Abiud, and Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor,
14 Azor engendra Sadoc; Sadoc engendra Achim; Achim engendra Éliud;
and Azor begot Sadok, and Sadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud,
15 Éliud engendra Eléazar; Eléazar engendra Mathan; Mathan engendra Jacob;
and Eliud begot Eleazar, and Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob,
16 Et Jacob engendra Joseph, l’époux de Marie, de laquelle est né Jésus, qu’on appelle Christ.
and Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was begotten Jesus, who is named Christ.
17 Il y a donc en tout quatorze générations depuis Abraham jusqu’à David, quatorze générations depuis David jusqu’à la déportation à Babylone, quatorze générations depuis la déportation à Babylone jusqu’au Christ.
All the generations, therefore, from Abraham to David [are] fourteen generations, and from David to the Babylonian removal fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian removal to the Christ, fourteen generations.
18 Or la naissance de Jésus-Christ arriva ainsi. Marie, sa mère, étant fiancée à Joseph, il se trouva, avant qu’ils eussent habité ensemble, qu’elle avait conçu par la vertu du Saint-Esprit.
And of Jesus Christ, the birth was thus: for His mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together she was found to have conceived from the Holy Spirit,
19 Joseph, son mari, qui était un homme juste, ne voulant pas la diffamer, résolut de la renvoyer secrètement.
and her husband Joseph being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, resolved to send her away privately.
20 Comme il était dans cette pensée, voici qu’un ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe, et lui dit: « Joseph, fils de David, ne craint point de prendre avec toi Marie ton épouse, car ce qui est formé en elle est l’ouvrage du Saint-Esprit.
And on his thinking of these things, behold, a messenger of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, you may not fear to receive your wife Mary, for that which was begotten in her is of [the] Holy Spirit,
21 Et elle enfantera un fils, et tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus; car il sauvera son peuple de ses péchés. »
and she will bring forth a Son, and you will call His Name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
22 Or tout cela arriva afin que fût accompli ce qu’avait dit le Seigneur par le prophète:
And all this has come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying,
23 « Voici que la Vierge concevra et enfantera un fils; et on le nommera Emmanuel, » c’est à dire Dieu avec nous.
“Behold, the virgin will conceive, and she will bring forth a Son, and they will call His Name Emmanuel,” which is, being interpreted, “God with us.”
24 Réveillé de son sommeil, Joseph fit ce que l’ange du Seigneur lui avait commandé: il prit avec lui Marie son épouse.
And Joseph, having risen from sleep, did as the messenger of the LORD directed him, and received his wife,
25 Mais il ne la connut point jusqu’à ce qu’elle enfantât son fils premier-né, à qui il donna le nom de Jésus.
and did not know her until she brought forth her Son—the firstborn, and he called His Name Jesus.
