1 Quand le Seigneur connut que les Pharisiens avaient appris que Jésus faisait plus de disciples et en baptisait plus que Jean,
AS soon then as the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptised more disciples than John
2 — toutefois ce n'était pas Jésus lui-même qui baptisait, mais ses disciples, —
(though Jesus himself did not baptise, but his disciples),
3 il quitta la Judée, et s'en alla de nouveau en Galilée.
he left Judea, and went again into Galilee.
4 Or, il lui fallait passer par la Samarie.
Now he must necessarily pass through Samaria.
5 Il vint donc en une ville de Samarie, nommée Sichar, près du champ que Jacob avait donné à son fils Joseph.
Then he cometh to a city of Samaria, called Sichar, near the spot of ground which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Or, là était le puits de Jacob. Jésus fatigué de la route, s'assit tout simplement au bord du puits: il était environ la sixième heure.
And Jacob’s well was there. Therefore Jesus, weary with his journey, e’en sat himself down on the well: it was about the sixth hour.
7 Une femme de Samarie vint puiser de l'eau. Jésus lui dit: " Donnez-moi à boire. "
A woman of Samaria comes to draw water: Jesus saith to her, Give me to drink.
8 Car ses disciples étaient allés à la ville pour acheter des vivres.
(For his disciples were gone into the city to buy provisions.)
9 La femme samaritaine lui dit: " Comment vous, qui êtes Juif, me demandez-vous à boire, à moi qui suis Samaritaine? " (les Juifs, en effet, n'ont pas de commerce avec les Samaritains).
The Samaritan woman therefore saith to him, How canst thou, a Jew, ask of me, who am a Samaritan woman, to drink? for Jews avoid all intercourse with Samaritans.
10 Jésus lui répondit: " Si vous connaissiez le don de Dieu, et qui est celui qui vous dit: Donnez-moi à boire, vous même lui en auriez fait la demande, et il vous aurait donné de l'eau vive. —
Jesus answered and said to her, If thou hadst known the gift of God, and who he is that speaketh to thee, thou wouldest have requested him, and he would have given thee life-giving water.
11 Seigneur, lui dit la femme, vous n'avez rien pour puiser, et le puits est profond: d'où auriez-vous donc cette eau vive?
The woman saith unto him, Thou hast no bucket, and the well is deep: whence then canst thou have this water that giveth life?
12 Etes-vous plus grand que notre père Jacob, qui nous a donné ce puits, et en a bu lui-même, ainsi que ses fils et ses troupeaux? "
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jésus lui répondit: " Quiconque boit de cette eau aura encore soif;
Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one who drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
15 La femme lui dit: " Seigneur, donnez-moi de cette eau, afin que je n'aie plus soif, et que je ne vienne plus puiser ici. —
The woman saith to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may no more thirst, nor come hither to draw.
16 Allez, lui dit Jésus, appelez votre mari, et venez ici. "
Jesus saith to her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 La femme répondit: " Je n'ai point de mari. " Jésus lui dit: " Vous avez raison de dire: Je n'ai point de mari;
The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus saith to her, Thou hast spoken right, that thou hast no husband:
18 car vous avez eu cinq maris, et celui que vous avez maintenant n'est pas à vous; en cela, vous avez dit vrai. "
for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in this thou hast spoken true.
19 La femme dit: " Seigneur, je vois que vous êtes un prophète.
The woman saith to him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
20 Nos pères ont adoré sur cette montagne, et vous, vous dites que c'est à Jérusalem qu'est le lieu où il faut adorer. "
Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye affirm, That the place where we ought to worship is at Jerusalem.
21 Jésus dit: " Femme, croyez-moi, l'heure vient où ce ne sera ni sur cette montagne, ni dans Jérusalem, que vous adorerez le Père.
Jesus saith to her, Woman, believe me, that the hour approaches, when ye shall worship the Father neither in this mountain, nor at Jerusalem.
22 Vous adorez ce que vous ne connaissez pas; nous, nous adorons ce que nous connaissons, car le salut vient des Juifs.
Ye worship ye know not what: we worship what we do know: for salvation cometh from the Jews.
23 Mais l'heure approche, et elle est déjà venue, où les vrais adorateurs adoreront le Père en esprit et en vérité; ce sont de tels adorateurs que le Père demande.
But the hour is coming, yea, is now come, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such worshippers of him.
24 Dieu est esprit, et ceux qui l'adorent, doivent l'adorer en esprit et en vérité. "
God is a Spirit: and they who worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.
25 La femme lui répondit: " Je sais que le Messie (celui qu'on appelle Christ) va venir; lorsqu'il sera venu, il nous instruira de toutes choses. "
The woman saith, I know that Messiah is coming (who is called Christ): when he cometh, he will inform us of all things.
26 Jésus lui dit: " Je le suis, moi qui vous parle. "
Jesus saith unto her, I that am speaking to thee am he.
27 Et à ce moment arrivèrent ses disciples, et ils s'étonnèrent de ce qu'il parlait avec une femme; néanmoins, aucun ne dit: " Que demandez-vous? " ou: " Pourquoi parlez-vous avec elle? "
And upon this came his disciples, and wondered that he talked with the woman: yet no one said, What art thou seeking? or, Why art thou talking with her?
28 La femme, alors, laissant là sa cruche, s'en alla dans la ville, et dit aux habitants:
Then the woman left her pitcher, and went into the city, and said to the men,
29 " Venez voir un homme qui m'a dit ce que j'ai fait; ne serait-ce point le Christ? "
Come with me; behold a man, who told me all things that I ever did: is not this the Messiah?
30 Ils sortirent de la ville, et vinrent à lui.
Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 Pendant l'intervalle, ses disciples le pressaient, en disant: " Maître, mangez. "
In the mean time his disciples invited him, saying, Rabbi, eat.
32 Mais il leur dit: " J'ai à manger une nourriture que vous ne connaissez pas. "
But he said to them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Et les disciples se disaient les uns aux autres: " Quelqu'un lui aurait-il apporté à manger? "
Then said his disciples to each other, Hath any person brought him ought to eat?
34 Jésus leur dit: " Ma nourriture est de faire la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé et d'accomplir son œuvre.
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Ne dites-vous pas vous-mêmes: Encore quatre mois, et ce sera la moisson? Moi, je vous dis: Levez les yeux, et voyez les champs qui déjà blanchissent pour la moisson.
Do ye not say, That yet there are four months, and then the harvest cometh? behold, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and look upon the fields; for they are now white for harvest.
36 Le moissonneur reçoit son salaire et recueille du fruit pour la vie éternelle, afin que le semeur et le moissonneur se réjouissent ensemble. (aiōnios g166)
And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 Car ici s'applique l'adage: Autre est le semeur et autre le moissonneur.
For herein is the saying true, That one soweth and another reapeth.
38 Je vous ai envoyés moissonner ce que vous n'avez pas travaillé; d'autres ont travaillé et vous, vous êtes entrés dans leur travail. "
I have sent you to reap that on which ye have bestowed no labour: others have laboured, and ye have entered into their labour.
39 Or, beaucoup de Samaritains de cette ville crurent en Jésus sur la parole de la femme qui avait rendu ce témoignage: " Il m'a dit tout ce que j'ai fait. "
Now many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him, on the report of the woman, who said, That he told me all things I ever had done.
40 Les Samaritains étant donc venus vers lui, le prièrent de rester chez eux, et il y demeura deux jours.
So on this the Samaritans came to him, and besought him to abide with them: and he tarried there two days.
41 Et un plus grand nombre crurent en lui pour l'avoir entendu lui-même.
And many more believed because of his own word;
42 Et ils disaient à la femme: " Maintenant ce n'est plus à cause de ce que vous avez dit que nous croyons; car nous l'avons entendu nous-mêmes, et nous savons qu'il est vraiment le Sauveur du monde. "
and said to the woman, Now we believe, not merely on account of thy relation: for we ourselves have heard, and know that this is of a certainty the Saviour of the world, the Messiah.
43 Après ces deux jours, Jésus partit de là pour se rendre en Galilée.
Then after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
44 Car Jésus avait déclaré lui-même qu'un prophète n'est point honoré dans sa patrie.
For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
45 Lorsqu'il fut arrivé en Galilée, les Galiléens l'accueillirent, ayant vu tout ce qu'il avait fait à Jérusalem pendant la fête; car eux aussi étaient allés à la fête.
When therefore he was come into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all the things which he did at the feast: for they also had gone to the feast.
46 Il retourna donc à Cana en Galilée, où il avait changé l'eau en vin. Or, il y avait un officier du roi dont le fils était malade à Capharnaüm.
Then came Jesus again to Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain attendant on the king, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
47 Ayant appris que Jésus arrivait de Judée en Galilée, il alla vers lui, et le pria de descendre, pour guérir son fils qui était à la mort.
This person having heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, went to him, that he might come down, and cure his son: for he was at the point of death.
48 Jésus lui dit: " Si vous ne voyez des signes et des prodiges, vous ne croyez point. "
Then said Jesus unto him, Unless ye see miracles and wonders, ye will not believe.
49 L'officier du roi lui dit: " Seigneur, venez avant que mon enfant meure. —
The courtier said to him, Sir, come down before my child is dead.
50 Va, lui répondit Jésus, ton enfant est plein de vie. " Cet homme crut à la parole que Jésus lui avait dite et partit.
Jesus saith to him, Go home; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word which Jesus had spoken, and went home.
51 Comme il s'en retournait, ses serviteurs vinrent à sa rencontre, et lui apprirent que son enfant vivait.
And as he was now going down home, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son is recovered!
52 Il leur demanda à quelle heure il s'était trouvé mieux, et ils lui dirent: " Hier, à la septième heure, la fièvre l'a quitté. "
Then inquired he of them the hour at which he began to amend? and they told him, It was yesterday, at the seventh hour, when the fever left him.
53 Le père reconnut que c'était l'heure à laquelle Jésus lui avait dit: " Ton fils est plein de vie ", et il crut, lui et toute sa maison.
Then the father knew that it was the very hour when Jesus said, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole family.
54 Ce fut le second miracle que fit Jésus en revenant de Judée en Galilée.
This is again a second miracle which Jesus did, when he came from Judea into Galilee.
