1 Alors Pilate prit Jésus et le fit flageller.
Therfor Pilat took thanne Jhesu, and scourgide.
2 Et les soldats ayant tressé une couronne d’épines, la mirent sur sa tête, et le revêtirent d’un manteau de pourpre;
And kniytis writhen a coroun of thornes, and setten on his heed, and diden aboute hym a cloth of purpur,
3 puis, s’approchant de lui, ils disaient: « Salut, roi des Juifs! » et ils le souffletaient.
and camen to him, and seiden, Heil, kyng of Jewis. And thei yauen to him buffatis.
4 Pilate sortit encore une fois et dit aux Juifs: « Voici que je vous l’amène dehors, afin que vous sachiez que je ne trouve en lui aucun crime. »
Eftsoone Pilat wente out, and seide to hem, Lo! Y brynge hym out to you, that ye knowe, that Y fynde no cause in him.
5 Jésus sortit donc, portant la couronne d’épines et le manteau d’écarlate; et Pilate leur dit: « Voici l’homme. »
And so Jhesus wente out, berynge a coroun of thornes, and a cloth of purpur. And he seith to hem, Lo! the man.
6 Lorsque les Princes des prêtres et les satellites le virent, ils s’écrièrent: « Crucifie-le! crucifie-le! » Pilate leur dit: « Prenez-le vous-mêmes, et crucifiez-le; car, pour moi, je ne trouve aucun crime en lui. »
But whanne the bischopis and mynystris hadden seyn hym, thei crieden, and seiden, Crucifie, crucifie hym. Pilat seith to hem, Take ye hym, and crucifie ye, for Y fynde no cause in hym.
7 Les Juifs lui répondirent: « Nous avons une loi, et, d’après notre loi, il doit mourir, parce qu’il s’est fait Fils de Dieu. »
The Jewis answeriden to hym. We han a lawe, and bi the lawe he owith to die, for he made hym Goddis sone.
8 Ayant entendu ces paroles, Pilate fut encore plus effrayé.
Therfor whanne Pilat hadde herd this word, he dredde the more.
9 Et rentrant dans le prétoire, il dit à Jésus: « D’où es-tu? » Mais Jésus ne lui fit aucune réponse.
And he wente in to the moot halle eftsoone, and seide to Jhesu, Of whennus art thou? But Jhesus yaf noon answere to him.
10 Pilate lui dit: « C’est à moi que tu ne parles pas? Ignores-tu que j’ai le pouvoir de te délivrer et le pouvoir de te crucifier? »
Pilat seith to him, Spekist thou not to me? Woost thou not, that Y haue power to crucifie thee, and Y haue power to delyuere thee?
11 Jésus répondit: « Tu n’aurais sur moi aucun pouvoir, s’il ne t’avait pas été donné d’en haut. C’est pourquoi celui qui m’a livré à toi a un plus grand péché. »
Jhesus answeride, Thou schuldist not `haue ony power ayens me, but it were youun to thee from aboue; therfor he that bitook me to thee, hath the more synne.
12 Dès ce moment, Pilate cherchait à le délivrer. Mais les Juifs criaient disant: « Si tu le délivres, tu n’es point ami de César; quiconque se fait roi, se déclare contre César. »
Fro that tyme Pilat souyte to delyuere hym; but the Jewis crieden, and seiden, If thou delyuerist this man, thou art not the emperouris freend; for ech man that makith hym silf king, ayen seith the emperoure.
13 Pilate, ayant entendu ces paroles, fit conduire Jésus dehors, et il s’assit sur son tribunal, au lieu appelé Lithostrotos, et en hébreu Gabbatha.
And Pilat, whanne he hadde herd these wordis, ledde Jhesu forth, and sat for domesman in a place, that is seid Licostratos, but in Ebrew Golgatha.
14 — C’était la Préparation de la Pâque, et environ la sixième heure. — Pilate dit aux Juifs: « Voici votre roi. »
And it was pask eue, as it were the sixte our. And he seith to the Jewis, Lo! youre king.
15 Mais ils se mirent à crier: « Qu’il meure! Qu’il meure! Crucifie-le. » Pilate leur dit: « Crucifierai-je votre roi? » les Princes des prêtres répondirent: « Nous n’avons de roi que César. »
But thei crieden, and seiden, Take awei, take awei; crucifie him. Pilat seith to hem, Schal I crucifie youre king? The bischops answeriden, We han no king but the emperour.
16 Alors il le leur livra pour être crucifié. Et ils prirent Jésus et l’emmenèrent.
And thanne Pilat bitook him to hem, that he schulde be crucified. And thei token Jhesu, and ledden him out.
17 Jésus, portant sa croix, arriva hors de la ville au lieu nommé Calvaire, en Hébreu Golgotha;
And he bar to hym silf a cros, and wente out in to that place, that is seid of Caluarie, in Ebreu Golgatha;
18 c’est là qu’ils le crucifièrent, et deux autres avec lui, un de chaque côté, et Jésus au milieu.
where thei crucifieden him, and othere tweyne with him, oon on this side and oon on that side, and Jhesus in the myddil.
19 Pilate fit aussi une inscription, et la fit mettre au haut de la croix; elle portait ces mots: « Jésus de Nazareth, le roi des Juifs. »
And Pilat wroot a title, and sette on the cros; and it was writun, Jhesu of Nazareth, king of Jewis.
20 Beaucoup de Juifs lurent cet écriteau, car le lieu où Jésus avait été crucifié était près de la ville, et l’inscription était en hébreu, en grec et en latin.
Therfor manye of the Jewis redden this title, for the place where Jhesus was crucified, was niy the citee, and it was writun in Ebreu, Greek, and Latyn.
21 Or, les princes des prêtres des Juifs dirent à Pilate: « Ne mets pas: Le roi des Juifs; mais que lui-même a dit: Je suis le roi des Juifs. »
Therfor the bischops of the Jewis seiden to Pilat, Nyle thou write kyng of Jewis, but for he seide, Y am king of Jewis.
22 Pilate répondit: « Ce que j’ai écrit, je l’ai écrit. »
Pilat answeride, That that Y haue writun, Y haue writun.
23 Les soldats, après avoir crucifié Jésus, prirent ses vêtements, et ils en firent quatre parts, une pour chacun d’eux. Ils prirent aussi sa tunique: c’était une tunique sans couture, d’un seul tissu depuis le haut jusqu’en bas.
Therfor the knyytis whanne thei hadden crucified hym, token hise clothis, and maden foure partis, to ech knyyt a part, and a coot. And the coot was without seem, and wouun al aboute.
24 Ils se dirent donc entre eux: « Ne la déchirons pas, mais tirons au sort à qui elle sera »: afin que s’accomplît cette parole de l’Écriture: « Ils se sont partagé mes vêtements, et ils ont tiré ma robe au sort. » C’est ce que firent les soldats.
Therfor thei seiden togidere, Kitte we not it, but caste we lot, whos it is; that the scripture be fulfillid, seiynge, Thei partiden my clothis to hem, and on my cloth thei casten lot. And the kniytis diden these thingis.
25 Près de la croix de Jésus se tenaient sa mère et la sœur de sa mère, Marie, femme de Clopas, et Marie-Madeleine.
But bisidis the cros of Jhesu stoden his modir, and the sistir of his modir, Marie Cleofe, and Marie Maudeleyne.
26 Jésus, ayant vu sa mère, et auprès d’elle le disciple qu’il aimait, dit à sa mère: « Femme, voilà votre fils. »
Therfor whanne Jhesu hadde seyn his modir, and the disciple stondynge, whom he louyde, he seith to hise modir, Womman, lo thi sone.
27 Ensuite il dit au disciple: « Voilà votre mère. » Et depuis cette heure-là, le disciple la prit chez lui.
Aftyrward he seith to the disciple, Lo! thi modir. And fro that our the disciple took hir in to his modir.
28 Après cela, Jésus sachant que tout était maintenant consommé, afin que l’Écriture s’accomplît, dit: « J’ai soif. »
Aftirward Jhesus witynge, that now alle thingis ben endid, that the scripture were fulfillid, he seith, Y thirste.
29 Il y avait là un vase plein de vinaigre; les soldats en remplirent une éponge, et l’ayant fixée au bout d’une tige d’hysope, ils l’approchèrent de sa bouche.
And a vessel was set ful of vynegre. And thei `leiden in isope aboute the spounge ful of vynegre, and putten to his mouth.
30 Quand Jésus eut pris le vinaigre, il dit: « Tout est consommé »; et baissant la tête, il rendit l’esprit.
Therfor whanne Jhesus hadde `takun the vynegre, he seid, It is endid. And `whanne his heed was bowid doun, `he yaf vp the goost.
31 Or, comme c’était la Préparation, de peur que les corps ne restassent sur la croix pendant le sabbat, — car le jour de ce sabbat était très solennel, — les Juifs demandèrent à Pilate qu’on rompît les jambes aux crucifiés et qu’on les détachât.
Therfor for it was the pask eue, that the bodies schulden not abide on the cros in the sabat, for that was a greet sabat dai, the Jewis preiden Pilat, that the hipis of hem schulden be brokun, and thei takun awei.
32 Les soldats vinrent donc, et ils rompirent les jambes du premier, puis de l’autre qui avait été crucifié avec lui.
Therfor knyytis camen, and thei braken the thies of the firste, and of the tothere, that was crucified with hym.
33 Mais quand ils vinrent à Jésus, le voyant déjà mort, ils ne lui rompirent pas les jambes;
But whanne thei weren comun to Jhesu, as thei sayn him deed thanne, thei braken not hise thies;
34 mais un des soldats lui transperça le côté avec sa lance, et aussitôt il en sortit du sang et de l’eau.
but oon of the knyytis openyde his side with a spere, and anoon blood and watir wenten out.
35 Et celui qui l’a vu en rend témoignage, et son témoignage est vrai; et il sait qu’il dit vrai, afin que vous aussi, vous croyiez.
And he that saiy, bare witnessyng, and his witnessing is trewe; and he woot that he seith trewe thingis, that ye bileue.
36 Car ces choses sont arrivées afin que l’Écriture fut accomplie: « Aucun de ses os ne sera rompu. »
And these thingis weren don, that the scripture schulde be fulfillid, Ye schulen not breke a boon of hym.
37 Et il est encore écrit ailleurs: « Ils regarderont celui qu’ils ont transpercé. »
And eftsoone another scripture seith, Thei schulen se in whom thei piyten thorow.
38 Après cela, Joseph d’Arimathie, qui était disciple de Jésus, mais en secret par crainte des Juifs, demanda à Pilate d’enlever le corps de Jésus. Et Pilate le permit. Il vint donc, et prit le corps de Jésus.
But after these thingis Joseph of Armathi preyede Pilat, that he schulde take awei the bodi of Jhesu, for that he was a disciple of Jhesu, but priui for drede of the Jewis. And Pilat suffride. And so he cam, and took awei the bodi of Jhesu.
39 Nicodème, qui était venu la première fois trouver Jésus de nuit, vint aussi, apportant un mélange de myrrhe et d’aloès, d’environ cent livres.
And Nychodeme cam also, that hadde come to hym first bi nyyt, and brouyte a meddlynge of myrre and aloes, as it were an hundrid pound.
40 Ils prirent donc le corps de Jésus, et l’enveloppèrent dans des linges, avec les aromates, selon la manière d’ensevelir en usage chez les Juifs.
And thei token the bodi of Jhesu, and boundun it in lynun clothis with swete smellynge oynementis, as it is custom to Jewis for to birie.
41 Or, au lieu où Jésus avait été crucifié, il y avait un jardin, et dans le jardin un sépulcre neuf, où personne n’avait encore été mis.
And in the place where he was crucified, was a yerd, and in the yerd a newe graue, in which yit no man was leid.
42 C’est là, à cause de la Préparation des Juifs, qu’ils déposèrent Jésus, parce que le sépulcre était proche.
Therfor there thei putten Jhesu, for the vigilie of Jewis feeste, for the sepulcre was niy.
