Job 28
1 Il y a pour l'argent un lieu d'où on l'extrait, pour l'or un lieu où on l'épure.
The siluer surely hath his veyne, and ye gold his place, where they take it.
2 Le fer se tire de la terre, et la pierre fondue donne le cuivre.
Yron is taken out of the dust, and brasse is molten out of the stone.
3 L'homme met fin aux ténèbres, il explore, jusqu'au fond des abîmes, la pierre cachée dans les ténèbres et l'ombre de la mort.
God putteth an end to darkenesse, and he tryeth the perfection of all things: he setteth a bond of darkenesse, and of the shadowe of death.
4 Il creuse, loin des lieux habités, des galeries, qu'ignore le pied des vivants; suspendu, il vacille, loin des humains.
The flood breaketh out against the inhabitant, and the waters forgotten of the foote, being higher then man, are gone away.
5 La terre, d'où sort le pain, est bouleversée dans ses entrailles comme par le feu.
Out of the same earth commeth bread, and vnder it, as it were fire is turned vp.
6 Ses roches sont le lieu du saphir, et l'on y trouve de la poudre d'or.
The stones thereof are a place of saphirs, and the dust of it is golde.
7 L'oiseau de proie n'en connaît pas le sentier, l'œil du vautour ne l'a point aperçu.
There is a path which no foule hath knowen, neyther hath the kites eye seene it.
8 Les animaux sauvages ne l'ont point foulé, le lion n'y a jamais passé.
The lyons whelpes haue not walked it, nor the lyon passed thereby.
9 L'homme porte sa main sur le granit, il ébranle les montagnes dans leurs racines.
He putteth his hand vpon the rockes, and ouerthroweth the mountaines by the rootes.
10 Il perce des galeries dans les rochers; rien de précieux n'échappe à son regard.
He breaketh riuers in the rockes, and his eye seeth euery precious thing.
11 Il sait arrêter le suintement des eaux, il amène à la lumière tout ce qui était caché.
He bindeth the floods, that they doe not ouerflowe, and the thing that is hid, bringeth he to light.
12 Mais la Sagesse, où la trouver? Où est le lieu de l'Intelligence?
But where is wisdome found? and where is the place of vnderstanding?
13 L'homme n'en connaît pas le prix, on ne la rencontre pas sur la terre des vivants.
Man knoweth not the price thereof: for it is not found in the land of the liuing.
14 L'abîme dit: « Elle n'est pas dans mon sein; » la mer dit: « Elle n'est pas avec moi. »
The depth sayth, It is not in mee: the sea also sayth, It is not with me.
15 Elle ne se donne pas contre de l'or pur, elle ne s'achète pas au poids de l'argent.
Golde shall not be giuen for it, neyther shall siluer be weighed for the price thereof.
16 On ne la met pas en balance avec de l'or d'Ophir, avec l'onyx précieux et avec le saphir.
It shall not be valued with the wedge of golde of Ophir, nor with the precious onix, nor the saphir.
17 L'or et le verre ne peuvent lui être comparés, on ne l'échange pas pour un vase d'or fin.
The golde nor the chrystall shall be equall vnto it, nor the exchange shalbe for plate of fine golde.
18 Qu'on ne fasse pas mention du corail et du cristal: la possession de la sagesse vaut mieux que les perles.
No mention shall be made of coral, nor of the gabish: for wisedome is more precious then pearles.
19 La topaze d'Ethiopie ne l'égale pas, et l'or pur n'atteint pas sa valeur.
The Topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equall vnto it, neither shall it be valued with the wedge of pure gold.
20 D'où vient donc la sagesse? Où est lieu de l'Intelligence?
Whence then commeth wisedome? and where is the place of vnderstanding,
21 Elle est cachée aux yeux de tous les vivants, elle se dérobe aux oiseaux du ciel.
Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all the liuing, and is hid from the foules of the heauen?
22 L'enfer et la mort disent: « Nous en avons entendu parler. » (questioned)
Destruction and death say, We haue heard the fame thereof with our eares.
23 C'est Dieu qui connaît son chemin, c'est lui qui sait où elle réside.
But God vnderstandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
24 Car il voit jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre, il aperçoit tout ce qui est sous le ciel.
For he beholdeth the endes of the world, and seeth all that is vnder heauen,
25 Quand il réglait le poids des vents, qu'il mettait les eaux dans la balance,
To make the weight of the windes, and to weigh the waters by measure.
26 quand il donnait des lois à la pluie, qu'il traçait la route aux éclairs de la foudre,
When he made a decree for the rayne, and a way for the lightening of the thunders,
27 alors il l'a vue et l'a décrite, il l'a établie et en a sondé les secrets.
Then did he see it, and counted it: he prepared it and also considered it.
28 Puis il a dit à l'homme: La crainte du Seigneur, voilà la sagesse; fuir le mal, voilà l'intelligence.
And vnto man he said, Behold, the feare of the Lord is wisedome, and to depart from euil is vnderstanding.
