Jérémie 50
1 La parole que Yahweh prononça sur Babylone, sur le pays des Chaldéens, par l'intermédiaire de Jérémie, le prophète.
The word that the Lord spake, concerning Babel, and cocerning the land of the Caldeans by the ministerie of Ieremiah the Prophet.
2 Annoncez-le parmi les nations, publiez-le; élevez un étendard, publiez-le; ne le cachez pas, dites: Babel est prise! Bel est confondu, Mérodach est abattu; ses idoles sont confondues, ses faux dieux sont abattus.
Declare among the nations, and publish it, and set vp a standart, proclaime it and conceale it not: say, Babel is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken downe: her idols are confounded, and their images are burst in pieces.
3 Car du septentrion un peuple monte contre elle; il fera de son pays une solitude, il n'y aura plus d'habitant; hommes et bêtes ont fuit, se sont en allés.
For out of the North there commeth vp a nation against her, which shall make her lande waste, and none shall dwel therein: they shall flee, and depart, both man and beast.
4 En ces jours-là et en ce temps-là, — oracle de Yahweh, les enfants d'Israël reviendront, eux et les enfants de Juda avec eux; ils marcheront en pleurant, et chercheront Yahweh, leur Dieu.
In those daies, and at that time, sayeth the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they, and the children of Iudah together, going, and weeping shall they goe, and seeke the Lord their God.
5 Ils demanderont Sion, et tourneront leur face vers elle. " Venez et attachons-nous à Yahweh par une alliance éternelle, qui ne soit jamais oubliée. "
They shall aske the way to Zion, with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let vs cleaue to the Lord in a perpetuall couenant that shall not be forgotten.
6 Mon peuple était un troupeau de brebis qui se perdaient; leurs bergers les égaraient sur des montagnes perfides; elles allaient de montagne en colline, oubliant leur bercail.
My people hath beene as lost sheepe: their shepheards haue caused them to goe astray, and haue turned them away to the mountaines: they haue gone from mountaine to hil, and forgotten their resting place.
7 Tous ceux qui les trouvaient les dévoraient, et leurs ennemis disaient: " Nous ne sommes pas coupables! " Parce qu'elles avaient péché contre Yahweh, la demeure de justice, contre Yahweh, l'espérance de leurs pères.
Al that found them, haue deuoured them, and their enemies saide, We offende not, because they haue sinned against the Lord, the habitation of iustice, euen the Lord the hope of their fathers.
8 Fuyez du milieu de Babylone, et sortez du pays des Chaldéens; soyez comme les boucs, à la tête du troupeau.
Flee from the middes of Babel, and depart out of the lande of the Caldeans, and be ye as the hee goates before the flocke.
9 Car voici que je vais susciter et faire marcher contre Babel une réunion de grands peuples; venant du pays du septentrion. Ils se rangeront contre elle, et de ce côté-là elle sera prise; leurs flèches sont celles d'un guerrier habile, qui ne revient pas à vide.
For loe, I will raise, and cause to come vp against Babel a multitude of mightie natios from the North countrey, and they shall set themselues in aray against her, whereby shee shall be taken: their arrowes shall be as of a strong man, which is expert, for none shall returne in vaine.
10 Et la Chaldée sera mise au pillage, tous ceux qui la pilleront se rassasieront, — oracle de Yahweh.
And Caldea shalbe a spoyle: all that spoyle her, shalbe satisfied, sayth the Lord.
11 Oui, réjouissez-vous; oui, livrez-vous à l'allégresse, pillards de mon héritage; oui, bondissez comme une génisse dans la prairie, hennissez comme des étalons!
Because yee were glad and reioyced in destroying mine heritage, and because ye are growen fatte, as the calues in the grasse, and neied like strong horses,
12 Votre mère est couverte de confusion; celle qui vous a enfantés rougit de honte. Voici qu'elle est la dernière des nations, un désert, une steppe, une terre aride.
Therefore your mother shall bee sore confounded, and she that bare you, shall be ashamed: beholde, the vttermost of the nations shalbe a desert, a drie land, and a wildernes.
13 A cause de la colère de Yahweh, elle ne sera plus habitée, ce ne sera plus qu'une solitude; quiconque passera près de Babel s'étonnera et sifflera à la vue de ses plaies.
Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but shall be wholy desolate: euery one that goeth by Babel, shall be astonished, and hisse at all her plagues.
14 Rangez-vous contre Babel, tout autour, vous tous, archers! Tirez contre elle, n'épargnez pas les flèches, car elle a péché contre Yahweh.
Put your selues in aray against Babel rounde about: all ye that bende the bowe, shoote at her, spare no arrowes: for shee hath sinned against the Lord.
15 Poussez de tous côtés contre elle un cri de guerre; elle tend les mains; ses tours s'écroulent, ses murs sont renversés. Car c'est la vengeance de Yahweh: vengez-vous sur elle; faites-lui comme elle a fait!
Crie against her round about: she hath giuen her hand: her foundations are fallen, and her walles are destroyed: for it is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance vpon her: as she hath done, doe vnto her.
16 Exterminez de Babel celui qui sème, et celui qui manie la faucille au jour de la moisson. Devant le glaive destructeur, que chacun se tourne vers son peuple, que chacun fuie vers son pays.
Destroy the sower from Babel, and him that handleth the sieth in the time of haruest: because of the sworde of the oppressor they shall turne euery one to his people, and they shall flee euery one to his owne land.
17 Israël est une brebis égarée a qui les lions ont fait la chasse; le premier l'a dévorée: le roi d'Assyrie; puis cet autre lui a brisé les os: Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babel.
Israel is like scattered sheepe: the lions haue dispersed them: first the King of Asshur hath deuoured him, and last this Nebuchad-nezzar King, of Babel hath broken his bones.
18 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Voici que je vais visiter le roi de Babel et son pays, comme j'ai visité le roi d'Assyrie.
Therefore thus saith the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, Behold, I wil visit ye King of Babel, and his land, as I haue visited the King of Asshur.
19 Et je ramènerai Israël dans sa demeure; et il paîtra au Carmel et en Basan; et sur la montagne d'Ephraïm et de Galaad, il ira se rassasier.
And I will bring Israel againe to his habitation: hee shall feede on Carmel and Bashan, and his soule shall be satisfied vpon the mount Ephraim and Gilead.
20 En ces jours-là et en ce temps-là, — oracle de Yahweh, on cherchera l'iniquité d'Israël, et elle ne sera plus; le péché de Juda, et on ne le trouvera plus; car je pardonnerai au reste que j'aurai laissé.
In those daies, and at that time, sayeth the Lord, the iniquitie of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none: and the sinnes of Iudah, and they shall not be founde: for I will be mercifull vnto them, whome I reserue.
21 Monte contre le pays de Rébellion et contre les habitants de Punition; détruis, extermine-les, les uns après les autres, — oracle de Yahweh, et fais-leur tout ce que je t'ai ordonné.
Goe vp against the lande of the rebelles, euen against it, and against the inhabitantes of Pekod: destroy, and lay it waste after them, saieth the Lord, and doe according to all that I haue commanded thee.
22 Bruit de bataille dans le pays et grand massacre!
A crie of battell is in the land, and of great destruction.
23 Comment a été rompu et brisé, le marteau de toute la terre? Comment Babel, est-elle devenue un objet d'horreur, au milieu des nations?
Howe is the hammer of the whole world destroied, and broken! howe is Babel become desolate among the nations!
24 J'ai tendu des lacets, et tu as été prise, Babel, sans t'en douter; tu as été trouvée et saisie, parce que tu t'es mise en guerre contre Yahweh.
I haue snared thee, and thou art taken, O Babel, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striuen against the Lord.
25 Yahweh a ouvert son arsenal, et il en a tiré les armes de sa colère; car le Seigneur Yahweh des armées, a affaire au pays des Chaldéens.
The Lord hath opened his treasure, and hath brought foorth the weapons of his wrath: for this is the woorke of the Lord God of hostes in the lande of the Caldeans.
26 Arrivez contre elle de toutes parts, ouvrez ses greniers, entassez tout comme des gerbes, et exterminez; qu'il n'en reste rien!
Come against her from the vtmost border: open her store houses: treade on her as on sheaues, and destroy her vtterly: let nothing of her be left.
27 Tuez tous les taureaux, qu'ils descendent à la boucherie! Malheur à eux car leur jour est arrivé, le temps où ils seront visités.
Destroy all her bullockes: let them goe downe to the slaughter. Wo vnto them, for their day is come, and the time of their visitation.
28 Cris des fuyards et de ceux qui se sauvent du pays de Babel! ils annoncent en Sion la vengeance de Yahweh, notre Dieu, la vengeance de son temple.
The voyce of them that flee, and escape out of the lande of Babel to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, and the vengeance of his Temple.
29 Appelez contre Babel des archers, tous ceux qui bandent l'arc; campez autour d'elle: que personne n'échappe! Rendez-lui selon ses œuvres, tout ce qu'elle a fait, faites-le lui; car elle s'est élevée contre Yahweh, contre le Saint d’Israël.
Call vp the archers against Babel: al ye that bend the bow, besiege it rounde about: let none thereof escape: recompence her according to her worke, and according to all that she hath done, doe vnto her: for she hath bene proud against the Lord, euen against the holy one of Israel.
30 C'est pourquoi ses jeunes gens tomberont sur ses places, et tous ses hommes de guerre périront en ce jour, — oracle de Yahweh.
Therefore shall her yong men fall in the streetes, and al her men of warre shalbe destroied in that day, sayeth the Lord.
31 Me voici contre toi, insolente! — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh des armées; car ton jour est venu, le temps où je visite.
Beholde, I come vnto thee, O proude man, saith the Lord God of hostes: for thy day is come, euen the time that I will visite thee.
32 Elle chancellera, l'insolente, elle tombera, et personne ne la relèvera; je mettrai le feu à ses villes, et il dévorera tous ses alentours.
And the proude shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him vp: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall deuoure all round about him.
33 Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: Les enfants d'Israël sont opprimés et avec eux les enfants de Juda; tous ceux qui les ont emmenés captifs les retiennent; et refusent de les lâcher.
Thus saieth the Lord of hosts, The children of Israel, and the children of Iudah were oppressed together: and all that tooke them captiues, held them, and would not let them goe.
34 Mais leur vengeur est fort; Yahweh des armées est son nom; il défendra puissamment leur cause, pour donner le repos à la terre, et faire trembler les habitants de Babel.
But their strong redeemer, whose Name is the Lord of hostes, he shall maintaine their cause, that he may giue rest to the lande, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babel.
35 Epée contre les Chaldéens, — oracle de Yahweh, et contre les habitants de Babel, et contre ses chefs et contre ses sages!
A sworde is vpon the Caldeans, sayeth the Lord, and vpon the inhabitants of Babel, and vpon her princes, and vpon her wise men.
36 Epée contre les imposteurs, et qu'ils perdent le sens! Epée contre ses braves, et qu'ils tremblent!
A sworde is vpon the soothsaiers, and they shall dote: a sword is vpon her strong men, and they shalbe afraide.
37 Epée contre ses chevaux et ses chars, et contre toute la tourbe des gens qui sont au milieu d'elle, et qu'ils soient comme des femmes! Epée contre ses trésors, et qu'ils soient pillés!
A sworde is vpon their horses and vpon their charets, and vpon all the multitude that are in the middes of her, and they shall be like women: a sworde is vpon her treasures, and they shall be spoyled.
38 Sécheresse sur ses eaux, et qu'elles tarissent! Car c'est un pays d'idoles, et devant ces épouvantails ils délirent.
A drought is vpon her waters, and they shall be dried vp: for it is the lande of grauen images, and they dote vpon their idoles.
39 Aussi les animaux du désert s'y établiront avec les chacals; les autruches y feront leur demeure; elle ne sera jamais plus peuplée; elle ne sera plus habitée d'âge en âge.
Therefore the Ziims with the Iims shall dwel there, and the ostriches shall dwel therein: for it shall be no more inhabited, neither shall it be inhabited from generation vnto generation.
40 Comme lorsque Dieu détruisit Sodome, Gomorrhe et les villes voisines, — oracle de Yahweh, personne n'y demeurera, aucun fils d'homme n'y séjournera.
As God destroied Sodom and Gomorah with the places thereof neere about, sayeth the Lord: so shall no man dwell theere, neither shall the sonne of man remaine therein.
41 Voici qu'un peuple arrive du Septentrion; une grande nation et des rois nombreux se lèvent des extrémités de la terre.
Beholde, a people shall come from the North, and a great nation, and many Kings shall be raised vp from the coastes of the earth.
42 Ils tiennent à la main l'arc et le javelot; ils sont cruels et sans pitié. Leur voix gronde comme la mer; ils sont montés sur des chevaux, rangés comme un seul homme pour la guerre, contre toi, fille de Babel.
They shall holde the bowe and the buckeler: they are cruell and vnmercifull: their voyce shall roare like the sea, and they shall ride vpon horses, and be put in aray like men to the battell against thee, O daughter of Babel.
43 Le roi de Babel a appris la nouvelle, et ses mains ont défailli; l'angoisse l'a saisi, les douleurs d'une femme qui enfante.
The King of Babel hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: sorow came vpon him, euen sorowe as of a woman in trauaile.
44 Pareil à un lion, voici qu’il monte des halliers du Jourdain au pâturage perpétuel; et soudain je les en ferai fuir, et j'y établirai celui que j'ai choisi. Car qui est semblable à moi? Qui me provoquerait, et quel est le berger qui me tiendrait tête?
Beholde, hee shall come vp like a lyon from the swelling of Iorden vnto the strong habitation: for I will make Israel to rest, and I will make them to haste away from her: and who is a chosen man that I may appoynt against her? for who is like me, and who will appoynt me the time? and who is the shepheard that will stande before me?
45 Ecoutez donc la résolution de Yahweh qu'il a prise contre Babel, et les desseins qu'il a médités contre le pays des Chaldéens: Oui, on les entraînera comme de faibles brebis; oui, le pâturage en sera dans la stupeur!
Therefore heare the counsell of the Lord that hee hath deuised against Babel, and his purpose that hee hath conceiued against the lande of the Caldeans: surely the least of the flocke shall drawe them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.
46 Au bruit de la prise de Babel, la terre tremble, un cri se fait entendre chez les nations!
At the noyse of the winning of Babel the earth is moued, and the crye is heard among the nations.
