Jérémie 46
1 Parole de Yahweh qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, au sujet des nations païennes.
That which has been the word of YHWH to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations,
2 Sur l’Égypte. — Contre l’armée du Pharaon Néchao, roi d’Égypte, qui était près du fleuve de l’Euphrate, à Carchémis, et que battit Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, la quatrième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda.
for Egypt, concerning the force of Pharaoh-Necho king of Egypt, that has been by the Euphrates River, in Carchemish, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has struck, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:
3 Préparez l’écu et le bouclier, et marchez au combat!
“Set shield and buckler in array, And draw near to battle.
4 Attelez les chevaux; montez, cavaliers! À vos rangs, vous qui portez le casque! Fourbissez les lances, endossez la cuirasse!
Gird the horses, and go up, you horsemen, And station yourselves with helmets, Polish the javelins, put on the coats of mail.
5 Que vois-je? Ils sont frappés d’épouvante, ils tournent le dos! Leurs guerriers sont battus, ils fuient sans se retourner! Terreur de toutes parts! — oracle de Yahweh.
Why have I seen them dismayed [and] turned backward? And their mighty ones are beaten down, And they have fled [to] a refuge, And did not turn their face, Fear [is] all around—a declaration of YHWH.
6 Que l’ homme agile ne fuie pas, que le vaillant n’échappe pas! Au septentrion, sur les rives du fleuve de l’Euphrate, ils ont chancelé, ils sont tombés!
The swift do not flee, nor do the mighty escape, Northward, by the side of the Euphrates River, They have stumbled and fallen.
7 Qui est-ce qui monte, pareil au Nil, dont les flots bouillonnent, pareils à des fleuves?
Who is this? He comes up as a flood, His waters shake themselves as rivers!
8 C’est l’Égypte qui monte, pareille au Nil, dont les flots bouillonnent, pareils à des fleuves. Elle a dit: Je monterai, je couvrirai la terre, je détruirai les villes et leurs habitants.
Egypt comes up as a flood, And the waters shake themselves as rivers. And he says, I go up; I cover the land, I destroy the city and the inhabitants in it.
9 Montez, chevaux! Chars, précipitez-vous! En marche, guerriers! Éthiopiens et qui manient le bouclier, Lydiens qui manient et bandent l’arc!
Go up, you horses; and boast yourselves, you chariots, And go forth, you mighty, Cush and Phut handling the shield, And Lud handling—treading the bow.
10 Mais ce jour est au Seigneur Yahweh des armées, jour de vengeance pour se venger de ses ennemis! L’épée dévore et se rassasie, elle s’abreuve de leur sang. Car c’est une immolation pour le Seigneur Yahweh des armées, au pays du septentrion, sur le fleuve de l’Euphrate.
And that day [is] to Lord YHWH of Hosts A day of vengeance, To be avenged of His adversaries, And the sword has devoured, and been satisfied, And it has been watered from their blood, For a sacrifice [is] to Lord YHWH of Hosts, In the land of the north, by the Euphrates River.
11 Monte à Galaad et prends du baume, vierge, fille de l’Égypte. En vain tu multiplies les remèdes; il n’y a point de guérison pour toi.
Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt, You have multiplied medicines in vain, There is no healing for you.
12 Les nations ont appris ta honte, et tes cris de détresse remplissent la terre. Car le guerrier se heurte au guerrier; ils tombent tous deux.
Nations have heard of your shame, And your cry has filled the land, For the mighty stumbled on the mighty, Together they have fallen—both of them!”
13 La parole qu’adressa Yahweh à Jérémie, le prophète, sur la venue de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, pour frapper le pays d’Égypte.
The word that YHWH has spoken to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the coming in of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to strike the land of Egypt:
14 Publiez-le en Égypte, faites-le entendre à Migdol, faites-le entendre à Noph et à Taphnès; dites: À vos rangs, tenez-vous prêts; déjà l’épée dévore autour de vous!
“Declare in Egypt, and sound in Migdol, And sound in Noph, and in Tahpanhes, say, Stand firm and prepare yourself, For a sword has devoured around you,
15 Quoi! ton héros est renversé! Il ne s’est pas tenu debout, car Yahweh l’a jeté par terre.
Why has your bull been swept away? He has not stood, because YHWH thrust him away.
16 Il multiplie ceux qui trébuchent; ils tombent les uns sur les autres, et ils disent: Levons-nous, retournons vers notre peuple et dans notre pays natal, loin de l’épée homicide.
He has multiplied the stumbling, Indeed, one has fallen on his neighbor, And they say: Rise, and we return to our people, And to the land of our birth, Because of the oppressing sword.
17 Là ils crient: Pharaon, roi d’Égypte est perdu; il a laissé passer le temps favorable.
They have cried there: Pharaoh king of Egypt [is] a desolation, The appointed time has passed by.
18 Je suis vivant! — oracle du roi dont le nom est Yahweh des armées: Comme le Thabor parmi les montagnes, comme le Carmel au-dessus de la mer, il vient.
[As] I live—an affirmation of the King, YHWH of Hosts [is] His Name, Surely as Tabor [is] among mountains, And as Carmel by the sea—he comes in,
19 Prépare ton bagage de captive, habitante, fille de l’Égypte; car Noph va devenir un désert; elle sera brûlée et sans habitants.
Make goods for yourself for removal, O inhabitant, daughter of Egypt, For Noph becomes a desolation, And has been burned up, without inhabitant.
20 L’Égypte est une génisse très belle; un taon vient, vient du septentrion.
Egypt [is] a very beautiful heifer, Destruction comes into her from the north.
21 Ses mercenaires au milieu d’elle sont comme des veaux engraissés. Eux aussi, ils tournent le dos, ils fuient tous ensemble; ils ne résistent point; car il est venu sur eux le jour de leur calamité, le temps de leur châtiment.
Even her hired ones in her midst [are] as calves of the stall, For even they have turned, They have fled together, they have not stood, For the day of their calamity has come on them, The time of their inspection.
22 Sa voix est comme le bruit du serpent qui s’en va; car ils sont venus en force, ils sont arrivés chez elle avec des haches, pareils à des bûcherons.
Its voice goes on as a serpent, For they go with a force, And they have come in to her with axes, As hewers of trees.
23 Ils ont abattu sa forêt, — oracle de Yahweh, alors qu’elle était impénétrable; car ils sont plus nombreux que les sauterelles, et on ne peut les compter.
They have cut down her forest, A declaration of YHWH, For it is not searched, For they have been more than the grasshopper, And they have no numbering.
24 Elle est confuse, la fille de l’Égypte; elle a été livrée aux mains d’un peuple du septentrion!
The daughter of Egypt has been ashamed, She has been given into the hand of the people of the north.
25 Yahweh des armées, Dieu d’Israël, a dit: Voici que je vais visiter Amon de No, et Pharaon, et l’Égypte, et ses dieux, et ses rois, et Pharaon, et ceux qui se fient à lui.
YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel, has said: Behold, I am seeing after Amon of No, And after Pharaoh, and after Egypt, And after her gods, and after her kings, And after Pharaoh, and after those trusting in him,
26 Et je les livrerai aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, aux mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et aux mains de ses serviteurs. Et après cela, elle sera habitée, comme aux jours d’autrefois, — oracle de Yahweh.
And I have given them into the hand of those seeking their life, And into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of his servants, And afterward it is inhabited, As [in] days of old—a declaration of YHWH.
27 Toi donc, ne crains pas, mon serviteur Jacob; ne t’effraie pas, Israël. Car voici que je vais te tirer de la terre lointaine, et ta postérité du pays de son exil; Jacob reviendra, il sera tranquille, en sécurité, sans que personne l’épouvante.
And you, you do not fear, My servant Jacob, Nor [are] you dismayed, O Israel, For behold, I am saving you from afar—And your seed from the land of their captivity, And Jacob has turned back, And has been at rest, and been at ease, And there is none disturbing.
28 Et toi, ne crains pas, mon serviteur Jacob, — oracle de Yahweh, — car je suis avec toi! Je ferai une extermination dans toutes les nations où je t’ai chassé. Pour toi, je ne t’exterminerai pas. Mais je te châtierai selon la justice, et je ne te laisserai pas impuni.
You do not fear, My servant Jacob, A declaration of YHWH, For I [am] with you, For I make an end of all the nations To where I have driven you, And I do not make an end of you, And I have reproved you in judgment, And do not entirely acquit you!”
