Jérémie 26
1 Au commencement du règne de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de Yahweh:
In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word has been from YHWH, saying,
2 Ainsi parle Yahweh: Tiens-toi dans le parvis de la maison de Yahweh, et dis à ceux de toutes les villes de Juda qui viennent adorer dans la maison de Yahweh, toutes les paroles que je t’ai commandé de leur dire; n’ en retranche pas un mot.
“Thus said YHWH: Stand in the court of the house of YHWH, and you have spoken to all [those of] the cities of Judah, who are coming to bow themselves in the house of YHWH, all the words that I have commanded you to speak to them—you do not diminish a word.
3 Peut-être écouteront-ils et reviendront-ils chacun de leur mauvaise voie; alors je me repentirai du mal que j’ai dessein de leur faire à cause de la méchanceté de leurs actions.
Perhaps they listen, and each turns back from his evil way; then I have relented concerning the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, because of the evil of their doings.
4 Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle Yahweh: Si vous ne m’obéissez pas, en suivant la loi que j’ai mise devant vous,
And you have said to them, Thus said YHWH: If you do not listen to Me, to walk in My law that I set before you,
5 en écoutant les paroles de mes serviteurs les prophètes, que j’envoie vers vous, que j’ai envoyés dès le matin, et que vous n’avez pas écoutés,
to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I am sending to you, indeed, rising early and sending, and you have not listened,
6 je traiterai cette maison comme Silo, et je ferai de cette ville un objet de malédiction pour toutes les nations de la terre.
then I have given up this house as Shiloh, and this city I give up for a reviling to all nations of the earth.”
7 Les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple entendirent Jérémie prononcer ces paroles dans la maison de Yahweh.
And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, hear Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of YHWH,
8 Et quand Jérémie eut achevé de dire tout ce que Yahweh lui avait commandé de dire à tout le peuple, les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple se saisirent de lui, en disant: « Tu mourras!
and it comes to pass, at the completion of Jeremiah’s speaking all that YHWH has commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests, and the prophets, and all the people catch him, saying, “You surely die!
9 Pourquoi prophétises-tu au nom de Yahweh en disant: Cette maison sera comme Silo, et cette ville sera dévastée et sans habitants? « Et tout le peuple se rassembla autour de Jérémie dans la maison de Yahweh.
Why have you prophesied in the Name of YHWH, saying, This house will be as Shiloh, and this city is desolated, without inhabitant?” And all the people are assembled to Jeremiah in the house of YHWH.
10 Les princes de Juda, ayant appris ces choses, montèrent de la maison du roi à la maison de Yahweh, et s’assirent à l’entrée de la porte Neuve de la maison de Yahweh.
And the heads of Judah hear these things, and they go up from the house of the king [to] the house of YHWH, and sit in the opening of the New Gate of YHWH.
11 Alors les prêtres et les prophètes dirent aux princes et à tout le peuple: Cet homme mérite la mort, car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, comme vous l’avez entendu de vos oreilles.
And the priests and the prophets speak to the heads, and to all the people, saying, “Judgment of death [is] for this man, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”
12 Et Jérémie parla à tous les princes et à tout le peuple en disant: « C’est Yahweh qui m’a envoyé prophétiser, contre cette maison et contre cette ville, toutes les choses que vous avez entendues.
And Jeremiah speaks to all the heads, and to all the people, saying, “YHWH sent me to prophesy concerning this house, and concerning this city, all the words that you have heard.
13 Maintenant, améliorez vos voies et vos œuvres, et écoutez la voix de Yahweh, votre Dieu, et Yahweh se repentira du mal qu’il a prononcé contre vous.
And now, amend your ways, and your doings, and listen to the voice of your God YHWH, and YHWH relents concerning the evil that He has spoken against you.
14 Pour moi, me voici entre vos mains; faites de moi selon qu’il paraîtra bon et juste à vos yeux.
And I, behold, I [am] in your hand, do to me as is good and as is right in your eyes;
15 Seulement sachez que si vous me faites mourir, c’est du sang innocent que vous mettrez sur vous, sur cette ville et ses habitants; car en vérité Yahweh m’a envoyé vers vous pour faire entendre à vos oreilles toutes ces paroles. »
only, certainly know that if you are putting me to death, you are surely putting innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants; for YHWH has truly sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”
16 Alors les princes et tout le peuple dirent aux prêtres et aux prophètes: « Cet homme ne mérite pas la mort, car c’est au nom de Yahweh, notre Dieu, qu’il nous a parlé. »
And the heads and all the people say to the priests and to the prophets, “There is not a judgment of death for this man, for he has spoken to us in the Name of our God YHWH.”
17 Et quelques-uns des anciens du pays, s’étant levés, dirent à toute l’assemblée du peuple:
And men from [the] elderly of the land rise up and speak to all the assembly of the people, saying,
18 « Michée de Moréscheth prophétisait aux jours d’Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et il parla ainsi à tout le peuple de Juda en ces termes: Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: Sion sera labourée comme un champ; Jérusalem deviendra un monceau de ruines, et la montagne du Temple une colline boisée.
“Micah the Morashtite has been prophesying in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and he says to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus said YHWH of Hosts: Zion is a plowed field, and Jerusalem is heaps, And the mountain of the house is for high places of a forest.
19 Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et tout Juda l’ont-ils donc fait mourir? N’ont-ils pas plutôt craint Yahweh? N’ont-t-ils pas imploré Yahweh? Et Yahweh s’est repenti de ce qu’il avait prononcé contre eux. Et nous, nous commettrions un grand crime au préjudice de nos âmes!… »
Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear YHWH? Indeed, he appeases the face of YHWH, and YHWH relents concerning the calamity that He spoke against them; and we are doing great evil against our souls.”
20 Il y eut aussi un homme qui prophétisait au nom de Yahweh, Urie, fils de Séméï, de Cariathiarim; il prophétisa contre cette ville et contre ce pays exactement les mêmes choses que Jérémie.
And there has also been a man prophesying in the Name of YHWH, Urijah son of Shemaiah, of Kirjath-Jearim, and he prophesies against this city, and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah,
21 Le roi Joakim, tous ses hommes vaillants et tous ses princes entendirent ses paroles, et le roi chercha à le faire mourir. Urie en fut informé, il eut peur et s’enfuit en Égypte.
and King Jehoiakim, and all his mighty ones, and all the heads, hear his words, and the king seeks to put him to death, and Urijah hears, and fears, and flees, and goes to Egypt.
22 Mais le roi Joakim envoya des hommes en Égypte, Elnathan, fils d’Achobor, et des hommes avec lui, en Égypte.
And King Jehoiakim sends men to Egypt—Elnathan son of Achbor, and men with him to Egypt—
23 Ils firent sortir Urie d’Égypte et l’emmenèrent au roi Joakim, qui le fit périr par l’épée et jeta son cadavre dans les sépulcres du commun peuple.
and they bring out Urijah from Egypt, and bring him to King Jehoiakim, and he strikes him with a sword, and casts his corpse to the graves of the sons of the people.
24 Or la main d’Ahicam, fils de Saphan, soutint Jérémie, en sorte qu’on ne le livra pas au peuple pour être mis à mort.
Only, the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan has been with Jeremiah so as not to give him up into the hand of the people to put him to death.
