Jérémie 20
1 Le prêtre Phassur, fils d’Emmer, qui était surveillant en chef dans la maison de Yahweh, entendit Jérémie prononcer ces prophéties.
Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.
2 Et Phassur frappa Jérémie le prophète et le fit mettre aux ceps, à la porte Haute de Benjamin, qui est dans la maison de Yahweh.
Then Pashur stroke Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.
3 Le lendemain, Phassur fit sortir Jérémie des ceps, et Jérémie lui dit: " Ce n'est plus Phassur que Yahweh t'appelle, mais Magor-Missabib.
And it came to pass on the next day, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD has not called your name Pashur, but Magormissabib.
4 Car ainsi parle Yahweh: Voici que je te livre à la terreur, toi et tous tes amis; ils tomberont sous l'épée de leurs ennemis, et tes yeux le verront. Et je livrerai aussi tout Juda aux mains du roi de Babylone, et il les emmènera captifs à Babylone, et les frappera de l'épée.
For thus says the LORD, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.
5 Je livrerai toutes les richesses de cette ville, tous ses produits, tous ses objets précieux, et tous les trésors des rois de Juda, je les livrerai aux mains de leurs ennemis; et ils les pilleront, les enlèveront, et les emmèneront à Babylone.
Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
6 Et toi, Phassur, et tous ceux qui habitent dans ta maison, vous irez en captivité; tu iras à Babylone, et là tu mourras, là tu seras enterré, toi et tous tes amis, auxquels tu as prophétisé le mensonge.
And you, Pashur, and all that dwell in your house shall go into captivity: and you shall come to Babylon, and there you shall die, and shall be buried there, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.
7 Tu m'as séduit, Yahweh, et j'ai été séduit; tu m'as saisi et tu as prévalu. Je suis chaque jour un objet de risée; tous se moquent de moi.
O LORD, you have deceived me, and I was deceived; you are stronger than I, and have prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocks me.
8 Car chaque fois que je parle, je crie, j'annonce violence et dévastation, et la parole de Yahweh est pour moi opprobre et sujet de risée, chaque jour.
For since I spoke, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.
9 Je disais: " Je ne ferai plus mention de lui, je ne parlerai plus en son nom... " Il y avait dans mon cœur comme un feu dévorant, enfermé dans mes os; je m’efforçais de le contenir, et je n'ai pas pu.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
10 Car j'entendais les propos méchants de la foule: " Terreur de toutes parts! Dénoncez, allons le dénoncer! " Tous ceux avec qui j'étais en paix épient mes pas: " S'il se laisse séduire, nous prévaudrons contre lui, et nous tirerons vengeance de lui. "
For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Possibly he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.
11 Mais Yahweh est avec moi comme un héros puissant; c'est pourquoi mes persécuteurs s'affaisseront, et ils ne prévaudont pas. Ils seront confus pour n'avoir pas réussi, d'un opprobre éternel, qui ne sera pas oublié.
But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
12 Yahweh des armées, toi qui éprouve le juste; qui vois les reins et les cœurs, je verrai la vengeance que tu tireras d'eux, car c'est à toi que j'ai remis ma cause.
But, O LORD of hosts, that try the righteous, and see the reins and the heart, let me see your vengeance on them: for unto you have I opened my cause.
13 Chantez à Yahweh, louez Yahweh, car il a tiré l'âme du malheureux de la main des méchants.
Sing unto the LORD, praise all of you the LORD: for he has delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
14 Maudit soit le jour où je suis né! Que le jour où ma mère m'a enfanté ne soit pas béni!
Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.
15 Maudit soit l'homme qui porta la nouvelle à mon père, en lui disant: " Un enfant mâle t'est né! " et qui le combla de joie!
Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A male child is born unto you; making him very glad.
16 Que cet homme soit comme les villes que Yahweh a renversées sans s'en repentir! Qu'il entende le matin le cri des vaincus, et à midi les vociférations des vainqueurs!
And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;
17 Parce qu'il ne m'a pas tué dès le sein maternel, afin que ma mère fût mon tombeau, ou que son sein me gardât éternellement!
Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.
18 Pourquoi suis-je sorti de son sein, pour voir la peine et la douleur, et pour consumer mes jours dans l'ignominie?
Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
