Isaïe 8
1 Et Yahweh me dit: " Prends une grande tablette, et écris-y en caractères lisibles à tous: Hâtez le pillage! Butinez vite! "
And Yahweh said unto me: Take thee a large tablet, —and write thereon in plain characters, To Maher-shalal-hash-baz. ["Speed-spoil-hurry-prey".]
2 Et je pris avec moi des témoins dignes de foi, le prêtre Urie et Zacharie, fils de Jébarachie.
That I may take in attestation, faithful witnesses, —even Uriah the priest, and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.
3 Et je m'approchai de la prophétesse, et elle conçut et enfanta un fils. Et Yahweh me dit: " Appelle-le Maher-Schalal-Chasch-Baz.
Then approached I unto the prophetess, and she conceived and bare a son, —and Yahweh said unto me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
4 Car avant que l'enfant sache crier: Mon père, ma mère! on portera les richesses de Damas et les dépouilles de Samarie devant le roi d'Assyrie. "
For before the boy shall have knowledge to cry, My father! and, My mother! the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.
5 Yahweh me parla encore, en ces termes:
And again Yahweh spake unto me yet further saying:
6 " Parce que ce peuple a méprisé les eaux de Siloé qui coulent doucement, et qu'il se réjouit au sujet de Rasin et du fils de Romélie,
Because this people hath refused the waters of Shiloah which flow softly, —and are rejoicing with Rezin and the son of Remaliah,
7 à cause de cela, voici que le Seigneur va faire venir sur eux les eaux du fleuve, fortes et profondes, le roi d'Assyrie et toute sa puissance. Il s'élèvera partout au-dessus de son lit, et se répandra par-dessus toutes ses rives;
now therefore, lo! the Lord is about to bring up against them the waters, strong and many, of the River ["Euphrates"], even the king of Assyria and all his glory, —and he shall rise over all his channels, and flow over all his banks;
8 il pénétrera en Juda, il débordera, il inondera, il montera jusqu'au cou; et le déploiement de ses ailes couvrira toute l'étendue de ton pays, ô Emmanuel. "
and roll on throughout Judah—overflow and pass along, till unto the neck, he shall reach, —and it shall be, that, the stretching out of his wings, shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel!
9 Poussez des cris de guerre, peuples, et vous serez défaits! prêtez l'oreille, vous toutes, extrémités de la terre! Equipez-vous, et vous serez défaits! Equipez-vous, et vous serez défaits!
Rage, O ye peoples, —and be overthrown, And give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth, —Gird yourselves and be overthrown, Gird yourselves, and be overthrown:
10 Formez des projets, et ils seront anéantis; donnez des ordres, et ils resteront sans effet; car Dieu est avec nous!
Determine a plan, —and it shall be frustrated, —Speak a word, and it shall not stand, For With-us-is-GOD!
11 Car ainsi m'a parlé Yahweh, quand sa main me saisit et qu'il m'avertit de ne pas suivre la voie de ce peuple, en disant:
For, thus, spake Yahweh unto me like a firm grasp of the hand, —when he admonished me, not to walk in the way of this people, saying:
12 " N'appelez pas conjuration tout ce que ce peuple appelle conjuration; ne craignez point ce qu'il craint, et ne vous effrayez pas.
Ye shall not say—A confederacy! of everything of which this people may say. A confederacy! And their fear, shall ye not fear or regard as awful:
13 Yahweh des armées, c'est lui que vous sanctifierez, lui qui sera votre crainte et votre frayeur.
Yahweh of hosts, him, shall ye hallow, —And let, him, be your fear, and let, him inspire you with awe;
14 Et il sera un sanctuaire; mais aussi une pierre d'achoppement et un rocher de scandale pour les deux maisons d'Israël, un filet et un piège pour les habitants de Jérusalem.
So shall he become a hallowed asylum, —But a stone to strike against, and a rock to stumble over unto both houses of Israel A trap and a snare to the dweller in Jerusalem;
15 Beaucoup d'entre eux trébucheront, ils tomberont et se briseront; ils seront enlacés et pris.
And many, shall stumble among them, —and fall and be torn, and snared, and captured.
16 Lie le témoignage, scelle l'enseignement dans le cœur de mes disciples. "
Bind thou up the testimony, —Seal the instruction amongst my disciples.
17 J'espère en Yahweh qui cache sa face à la maison de Jacob, et je me confie en lui.
I will therefore long for Yahweh, Who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, —And will wait, for him.
18 Voici que moi et mes enfants que Dieu m'a donnés, nous sommes des signes et des présages en Israël, de la part de Yahweh des armées, qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.
Lo! I and the children whom Yahweh hath given me, are for signs and for wonders in Israel, —from Yahweh of hosts, who is making his habitation in Mount Zion.
19 Quand ils vous diront: " Consultez ceux qui évoquent les morts, et les devins qui murmurent et chuchotent, " répondez: " Un peuple ne doit-il pas consulter son Dieu? Consultera-t-il les morts pour les vivants?
But, when they say unto you—Seek ye unto the necromancers and unto the wizards, who chirp, and who mutter, Should not a people seek, unto its God? In behalf of the living, [should it seek] unto the dead?
20 A l'enseignement et au témoignage! " Si le peuple tient un autre langage, il n'y a point pour lui d'aurore.
To the law and to the testimony! If they speak not according to this word, [It is], because they have no dawning day.
21 Il errera dans le pays, accablé de misère et affamé, et, quand il aura faim, il maudira, dans sa fureur, son roi et son Dieu.
Therefore shall they pass through it hard pressed and hungry, —And it shall be when they hunger, then will they rage and revile their king and their god and turn their faces upwards;
22 Il élèvera ses regards en haut, et les abaissera vers la terre: et voici la détresse, l'obscurité, une sombre angoisse; il sera rejeté dans les ténèbres.
And unto the land, shall they look hard, And lo! distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish, driven away!
