Isaïe 21
1 Oracle sur le désert de la mer. Comme les ouragans passent dans le midi, cela vient du désert, d’une terre redoutable.
A declaration about the desert by the sea. Like stormwinds sweeping through the Negev it comes passing through from the wilderness, from a terrible land.
2 Une vision terrible m’a été montrée: le pillard pille et le ravageur ravage! Monte, Élam! Assiège, Mède! Je fais cesser tous les gémissements.
A distressing vision has been given to me: the treacherous man deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up and attack, Elam; besiege, Media; I will stop all her groaning.
3 C’est pourquoi mes reins sont remplis d’angoisses; des douleurs me saisissent, comme les douleurs d’une femme qui enfante. Je me tords à entendre, je m’épouvante à voir;
Therefore my loins are filled with pain; pains like the pains of a woman in labor have taken hold of me; I am bowed down by what I heard; I am disturbed by what I saw.
4 mon cœur s’égare, l’effroi me saisit; de la nuit que je désirais on a fait pour moi un temps de terreurs.

5 On dresse la table, la sentinelle fait le guet, on mange, on boit. — « Debout, capitaines! Oignez le bouclier! »
They prepare the table, they spread rugs and eat and drink; arise, princes, anoint your shields with oil.
6 Car ainsi m’a parlé le Seigneur: « Va, établis une sentinelle; qu’elle annonce ce qu’elle verra.
For this is what the Lord said to me, “Go, post a watchman; he must report what he sees.
7 Et elle verra des cavaliers, deux à deux, sur des chevaux, des cavaliers sur des ânes, des cavaliers sur des chameaux. Et elle regardera avec attention, avec grande attention. »
When he sees a chariot, a pair of horsemen, riders on donkeys, and riders on camels, then he must pay attention and be very alert.”
8 Et elle a crié comme un lion: « Sur la tour du guet, Seigneur, je me tiens, sans cesse tout le jour, et à mon poste je suis debout toutes les nuits.
The watchman cries out, “Lord, on the watchtower I stand all day, every day, and at my post I stand all night long.”
9 Voici qu’arrive de la cavalerie; des cavaliers deux à deux. » Et elle a repris et dit: « Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone, et toutes les statues de ses dieux, il les a brisées contre terre! »
Here comes a chariot with a man and a pair of horsemen. He calls out, “Babylon has fallen, fallen, and all the carved figures of its gods are broken to the ground.”
10 Ô mon froment qu’on foule, grain de mon aire, ce que j’ai entendu de Yahweh des armées, du Dieu d’Israël, je vous l’annonce.
My threshed and winnowed ones, children of my threshing floor! What I have heard from Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you.
11 Oracle sur Duma. On me crie de Séir: « Sentinelle, où en est la nuit? Sentinelle, où en est la nuit? »
A declaration about Dumah. One calls to me from Seir, “Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?”
12 La sentinelle répond: « Le matin vient et la nuit aussi. Si vous voulez m’interroger, interrogez; revenez une autre fois! »
The watchman said, “The morning comes and also the night. If you want to ask, then ask; and come back again.”
13 Oracle en Arabie. Vous passerez la nuit dans les steppes en Arabie, caravanes de Dédan. —

14 À la rencontre de celui qui a soif, apportez de l’eau! Les habitant du pays de Théma offrent du pain aux fugitifs.

15 Car ils ont fui devant l’épée, devant l’épée nue, devant l’arc bandé, devant la terrible bataille.

16 Car ainsi m’a parlé le Seigneur: Encore une année, comptée comme les années du mercenaire, et c’en est fait de toute la gloire de Cédar;
For this is what the Lord said to me, “Within a year, as a laborer hired for a year would see it, all the glory of Kedar will end.
17 et des arcs nombreux des vaillants fils de Cédar il ne restera que peu de chose; car Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël, a parlé.
