Isaïe 20

1 L’année où Thartan vint à Azoth, envoyé par Sargon, roi d’Assyrie, assiégea Azoth et la prit,

In the year when Sargon, king of Assyria, sent his army commander to attack the town of Ashdod and conquered it,

2 en ce temps-là, Yahweh parla par le ministère d’Isaïe, fils d’Amos, en disant: « Va, détache le sac qui couvre tes reins, et ôte les sandales de tes pieds. « Et il fit ainsi, marchant nu et déchaussé.

at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah, son of Amoz. He told him, “Take off the sackcloth clothes from your body and remove your sandals.” Isaiah did so and went around naked and barefoot.

3 Et Yahweh dit: « De même que mon serviteur Isaïe a marché nu et déchaussé; étant pendant trois ans un signe et un présage, pour l’Égypte et pour l’Éthiopie;

Then the Lord said, “In the same way that my servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a warning against Egypt and Ethiopia,

4 ainsi le roi d’Assyrie emmènera les captifs de l’Égypte, et les déportés de l’Éthiopie, jeunes gens et vieillards, nus et déchaussés, et les reins découverts, à la honte de l’Égypte.

so shall the king of Assyria lead the Egyptian prisoners and the Ethiopian exiles, both young and old, naked and barefoot. Their buttocks will be bare, to Egypt's shame.

5 Alors ils seront consternés et confus, à cause de l’Éthiopie, qui était leur espoir, et de l’Égypte qui était leur sujet de gloire.

They will be discouraged and humiliated because they had put their hope in Ethiopia and proudly trusted in Egypt.

6 Et l’habitant de ce rivage dira en ce jour-là: Voilà ce qu’ est devenu celui en qui nous espérions; celui auprès de qui nous voulions fuir pour chercher du secours, pour être délivrés, des mains du roi d’Assyrie! Et nous, comment échapperons-nous? »

At that time the people living in the coastal lands will say, ‘Look what has happened those we were depending on! We ran to them for help to save us from the king of Assyria. We don't stand a chance!’”
