Ézéchiel 23

1 La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

2 « Fils de l’homme, il y avait deux femmes, filles d’une même mère.

Son of man, there were two women, daughters of one mother.

3 Elles se prostituèrent en Égypte, elles se prostituèrent dans leur jeunesse. Là on a saisi leurs mamelles, là on a pressé leur sein virginal.

And they committed fornication in Egypt, in their youth they committed fornication: there were their breasts pressed down, and the teats of their virginity were bruised.

4 Voici leurs noms: Oolla, la plus grande, et Ooliba, sa sœur. Elles furent à moi, et elles enfantèrent des fils et des filles. Voici leurs noms: Oolla, c’est Samarie; Ooliba, c’est Jérusalem.

And their names were Oolla the elder, and Ooliba her younger sister: and I took them, and they bore sons and daughters. Now for their names, Samaria is Oolla, and Jerusalem is Ooliba.

5 Oolla me fut infidèle; elle brûla d’amour pour ses amants, les Assyriens, ses voisins.

And Oolla committed fornication against me, and doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians that came to her,

6 Vêtus de pourpre, gouverneurs et magistrats, tous beaux jeunes hommes, cavaliers montés sur des chevaux.

Who were clothed with blue, princes, and rulers, beautiful youths, all horsemen, mounted upon horses.

7 C’est vers eux qu’elle dirigea ses prostitutions, vers toute l’élite des fils de l’Assyrie; et près de tous ceux pour qui elle brûlait d’amour, elle se souilla avec toutes leurs infâmes idoles.

And she committed her fornications with those chosen men, all sons of the Assyrians: and she defiled herself with the uncleanness of all them on whom she doted.

8 Et elle n’abandonna pas ses prostitutions de l’Égypte; car ils l’avaient déshonorée dans sa jeunesse; ils avaient pressé son sein virginal, et répandu sur elle leur impudicité.

Moreover also she did not forsake her fornications which she had committed in Egypt: for they also lay with her in her youth, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured out their fornication upon her.

9 C’est pourquoi je l’ai livrée aux mains de ses amants, aux mains des fils de l’Assyrie, pour qui elle avait brûlé d’amour.

Therefore have I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the sons of the Assyrians, upon whose lust she doted.

10 Ils ont découvert sa nudité; ils ont pris ses fils et ses filles; ils l’ont égorgée avec l’épée. Et elle devint en renom parmi les femmes; car justice en avait été faite.

They discovered her disgrace, took away her sons and daughters, and slew her with the sword: and they became infamous women, and they executed judgments in her.

11 Et sa sœur Ooliba l’a vu, et plus qu’elle elle a rendu pervers ses amours; et ses prostitutions ont surpassé celles de sa sœur.

And when her sister Ooliba saw this, she was mad with lust more than she: and she carried her fornication beyond the fornication of her sister.

12 Elle a brûlé d’amour pour les fils de l’Assyrie, gouverneurs et chefs, ses voisins richement vêtus, cavaliers montés sur des chevaux, tous beaux jeunes hommes.

Impudently prostituting herself to the children of the Assyrians, the princes, and rulers that came to her, clothed with divers colours, to the horsemen that rode upon horses, and to young men all of great beauty.

13 Je vis qu’elle aussi se souillait; toutes deux suivaient la même voie.

And I saw that she was defiled, and that they both took one way.

14 Elle ajouta encore à ses prostitutions: elle vit des hommes peints sur le mur, des images de Chaldéens peintes au vermillon;

And she increased her fornications: and when she had seen men painted on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans set forth in colours,

15 ils portaient des ceintures sur leurs reins, ils avaient sur leurs têtes d’amples turbans; tous paraissaient de grands seigneurs. C’étaient les figures des fils de Babylone, dont la Chaldée était la terre d’origine.

And girded with girdles about their reins, and with dyed turbans on their heads, the resemblance of all the captains, the likeness of the sons of Babylon, and of the land of the Chaldeans wherein they were born,

16 Elle brûla pour eux dès que ses yeux les virent, et elle envoya des messagers vers eux en Chaldée;

She doted upon them with the lust of her eyes, and she sent messengers to them into Chaldea.

17 et les fils de Babylone vinrent vers elle au lit des amours et ils la souillèrent par leurs prostitutions, et elle se souilla avec eux; puis son âme se dégoûta d’eux.

And when the sons of Babylon were come to her to the bed of love, they defiled her with their fornications, and she was polluted by them, and her soul was glutted with them.

18 Elle fit voir à découvert ses prostitutions, elle découvrit sa nudité; et mon âme se dégoûta d’elle, comme mon âme s’était dégoûtée de sa sœur.

And she discovered her fornications, and discovered her disgrace: and my soul was alienated from her, as my soul was alienated from her sister.

19 Elle a multiplié ses prostitutions, se rappelant les jours de sa jeunesse, lorsqu’elle se prostituait au pays d’Égypte.

For she multiplied her fornications, remembering the days of her youth, in which she played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

20 Elle a brûlé pour ses impudiques, dont les membres sont des membres d’âne, et l’ardeur lubrique celle des étalons.

And she was mad with lust after lying with them whose flesh is as the flesh of asses: and whose issue as the issue of horses.

21 Tu es revenue aux crimes de ta jeunesse, quand les Égyptiens pressaient tes mamelles, à cause de ton sein virginal.

And thou hast renewed the wickedness of thy youth, when thy breasts were pressed in Egypt, and the papa of thy virginity broken.

22 C’est pourquoi, Ooliba, ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Voici que je vais exciter contre toi tes amants, ceux dont ton âme s’est dégoûtée, et je les ferai venir contre toi de toute part,

Therefore, Ooliba, thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will raise up against thee all thy lovers with whom thy soul hath been glutted: and I will gather them together against thee round about.

23 les fils de Babylone et tous les Chaldéens, princes, chefs et seigneurs, et avec eux tous les fils de l’Assyrie, beaux jeunes hommes, tous gouverneurs et magistrats, dignitaires et personnages illustres, tous montés sur des chevaux.

The children of Babylon, and all the Chaldeans, the nobles, and the kings, and princes, all the sons of the Assyrians, beautiful young men, all the captains, and rulers, the princes of princes, and the renowned horsemen.

24 Contre toi s’avancent armes, chars et roues, avec une multitude de peuples; ils disposent contre toi boucliers, écus et casques; je remets devant eux le jugement, et ils te jugeront selon leurs lois.

And they shall come upon thee well appointed with chariot and wheel, a multitude of people: they shall be armed against thee on every side with breastplate, and buckler, and helmet: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall judge thee by their judgments.

25 Je dirigerai ma jalousie contre toi; et ils te traiteront avec fureur; ils te couperont le nez et les oreilles, et ce qui restera de toi tombera par l’épée; ils prendront tes fils et tes filles, et ce qui restera de toi sera dévoré par le feu.

And I will set my jealousy against thee, which they shall execute upon thee with fury: they shall cut off thy nose and thy ears: and what remains shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons, and thy daughters, and thy residue shall be devoured by fire.

26 Ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, et ils enlèveront tes bijoux.

And they shall strip thee of thy garments, and take away the instruments of thy glory.

27 Je mettrai un terme à ton crime, et à tes prostitutions du pays d’Égypte; tu ne lèveras plus les yeux vers eux, et tu ne te souviendras plus de l’Égypte.

And I will put an end to thy wickedness in thee, and thy fornication brought out of the land of Egypt: neither shalt thou lift up thy eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.

28 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Voici que je vais te livrer aux mains de ceux que tu hais, aux mains de ceux dont ton âme s’est dégoûtée.

For thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will deliver thee into the hands of them whom thou hatest, into their hands with whom thy soul hath been glutted.

29 Ils te traiteront avec haine, ils emporteront tout ce que tu as gagné, et te laisseront nue, complètement nue; et ta nudité impudique, ton impureté et tes prostitutions seront découvertes.

And they shall deal with thee in hatred, and they shall take away all thy labours, and shall let thee go naked, and full of disgrace, and the disgrace of thy fornication shall be discovered, thy wickedness, and thy fornications.

30 On te traitera ainsi parce que tu t’es prostituée aux nations, parce que tu t’es souillée avec leurs idoles infâmes.

They have done these things to thee, because thou hast played the harlot with the nations among which thou wast defiled with their idols.

31 Tu as marché dans la voie de ta sœur; je mettrai sa coupe dans ta main.

Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister, and I will give her cup into thy hand.

32 Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Tu boiras la coupe de ta sœur, coupe profonde et large; elle donnera à rire et à se moquer de toi, tant est grande sa capacité.

Thus saith the Lord God: Thou shalt drink thy sister’s cup, deep, and wide: thou shalt be had in derision and scorn, which containeth very much.

33 Tu seras remplie d’ivresse et de douleur; c’est une coupe de désolation et de dévastation que la coupe de ta sœur, Samarie.

Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness, and sorrow: with the cup of grief, and sadness, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.

34 Tu la boiras et la videras, tu en mordras les morceaux et t’ en déchireras le sein; car moi j’ai parlé, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh.

And thou shalt drink it, and shalt drink it up even to the dregs, and thou shalt devour the fragments thereof, thou shalt rend thy breasts: because I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.

35 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Parce que tu m’as oublié, et que tu m’as rejeté derrière ton dos, porte donc, toi aussi, la peine de ton impureté et de tes prostitutions! »

Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Because thou hast forgotten me, and hast cast me off behind thy back, bear thou also thy wickedness, and thy fornications.

36 Et Yahweh me dit: « Fils de l’homme, jugeras-tu Oolla et Ooliba? Déclare-leur leurs abominations.

And the Lord spoke to me, saying: Son of man, dost thou judge Oolla, and Ooliba, and dost thou declare to them their wicked deeds?

37 Car elles ont été adultères, et il y a du sang dans leurs mains; elles ont commis l’adultère avec leurs idoles infâmes, et même leurs fils qu’elles m’avaient enfantés, elles les ont fait passer par le feu, pour qu’ils les mangent.

Because they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and they have committed fornication with their idols: moreover also their children, whom they bore to me, they have offered to them to be devoured.

38 Voici encore ce qu’elles ont fait: Elles ont souillé mon sanctuaire en ce jour-là, et elles ont profané mes sabbats.

Yea, and they have done this to me. They polluted my sanctuary on the same day, and profaned my sabbaths.

39 Et lorsqu’elles immolaient leurs fils à leurs idoles infâmes, elles entraient le même jour dans mon sanctuaire, pour le profaner: Voilà ce qu’elles ont fait au milieu de ma maison.

And when they sacrificed their children to their idols, and went into my sanctuary the same day to profane it: they did these things even in the midst of my house.

40 Et même elles ont envoyé chercher des hommes venant de loin; et ceux à qui avait été envoyé un messager, voici qu’ils sont venus, … ceux pour qui tu t’es lavée, tu as mis du fard à tes yeux, tu t’es ornée de parures!

They sent for men coming from afar, to whom they had sent a messenger: and behold they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself, and didst paint thy eyes, and wast adorned with women’s ornaments.

41 Et tu t’es assise sur un lit d’apparat, devant lequel une table était dressée, où tu as posé mon encens et mon huile.

Thou sattest on a very fine bed, and a table was decked before thee: whereupon thou didst set my incense, and my ointment.

42 On y entendait le bruit d’une foule à l’aise; aux gens venus des grands amas d’hommes, se sont joints les buveurs du désert, qui ont mis des bracelets aux mains des deux sœurs, et des couronnes magnifiques sur leurs têtes.

And there was in her the voice of a multitude rejoicing: and to some that were brought of the multitude of men, and that came from the desert, they put bracelets on their hands, and beautiful crowns on their heads.

43 Et je dis à cette femme usée dans les adultères: Va-t-elle maintenant continuer ses prostitutions, elle aussi?

And I said to her that was worn out in her adulteries: Now will this woman still continue in her fornication.

44 On va vers elle comme on va chez une prostituée. C’est ainsi qu’on est allé chez Oolla et Ooliba, ces femmes criminelles.

And they went in to her, as to a harlot: so went they in unto Oolla, and Ooliba, wicked women.

45 Mais des hommes justes les condamneront à la peine des femmes adultères, et à la peine de celles qui répandent le sang; car elles sont adultères, et il y a du sang dans leurs mains.

They therefore are just men: these shall judge them as adulteresses are judged, and as shedders of blood are judged: because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.

46 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Fais monter contre elles une assemblée, et qu’on les livre à la terreur et au pillage;

For thus saith the Lord God: Bring a multitude upon them, and deliver them over to tumult and rapine:

47 et que l’assemblée les accable sous les pierres, et les taille en pièces avec ses épées; qu’on tue leurs fils et leurs filles, et qu’on brûle au feu leurs maisons!

And lee the people stone them with stones, and let them be stabbed with their swords: they shall kill their sons and daughters, and their houses they shall burn with fire.

48 Et je ferai cesser l’impureté dans le pays, et toutes les femmes en recevront une leçon, et ne commettront point des impuretés pareilles aux vôtres,

And I will take away wickedness out of the land: and all women shall learn, not to do according to the wickedness of them.

49 On fera retomber votre impureté sur vous, et vous porterez la peine de votre idolâtrie; et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur Yahweh. »

And they shall render your wickedness upon you, and you shall bear the sins of your idols: and you shall know that I am the Lord God.
