Ézéchiel 15

1 La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:

And thee word of the Lord came vnto me, saying,

2 « Fils de l’homme, en quoi le bois de la vigne vaut-il plus que tout autre bois, que le rameau qui est parmi les arbres de la forêt?

Sonne of man, what commeth of the vine tree aboue all other trees? and of the vine braunch, which is among the trees of ye forest?

3 En prend-on du bois, pour en fabriquer un ouvrage? En tire-t-on une cheville, pour y suspendre quelque objet?

Shall wood bee taken thereof to doe any worke? or wil men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

4 Voici qu’on le livre au feu pour qu’il le consume; le feu en dévore les deux bouts, et le milieu brûle: sera-t-il bon a quelque usage?

Behold, it is cast in the fire to be consumed: the fire consumeth both the endes of it, and the middes of it is burnt. Is it meete for any worke?

5 Voici que, lorsqu’il était entier, il n’était employé à aucun ouvrage: combien moins, quand le feu l’a consumé et brûlé, pourrait-on l’employer à quelque usage?

Behold, when it was whole, it was meete for no worke: how much lesse shall it bee meete for any worke, when the fire hath consumed it, and it is burnt?

6 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Tel que le bois de la vigne parmi les bois de la forêt, ce bois que je livre au feu pour le consumer, tels je livrerai les habitants de Jérusalem.

Therefore thus sayth the Lord God, As the vine tree, that is among the trees of the forest, which I haue giuen to the fire to be consumed, so will I giue the inhabitants of Ierusalem.

7 Je dirigerai ma face contre eux; ils ont échappé au feu, et le feu les consumera, et vous saurez que je suis Yahweh, quand je tournerai ma face contre eux.

And I will set my face against them: they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall consume them: and ye shall know, that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them,

8 Et je ferai du pays un désert, parce qu’ils ont été infidèles, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh. »

And when I make the lande waste, because they haue greatly offended, saith the Lord God.
