Esther 5

1 Le troisième jour, Esther revêtit ses vêtements royaux et se tint dans la cour intérieure de la maison du roi, devant l'appartement du roi. Le roi était assis sur son trône royal dans l'appartement royal, en face de l'entrée du palais.

And it came to pass, on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the house of the king, over against the house of the king, —and, the king, was sitting upon his royal seat, in the royal house, over against the opening of the house.

2 Lorsque le roi vit la reine Esther debout dans la cour, elle trouva grâce à ses yeux, et le roi tendit à Esther le sceptre d'or qu'il tenait à la main. Esther, s'approchant, toucha le bout du sceptre.

And it came to pass, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his eyes, —and the king held out to Esther, the golden sceptre which was in his hand, so Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

3 Et le roi lui dit: " Qu'as-tu, reine Esther, et que demandes-tu? Quand ce serait la moitié du royaume, elle te serait donnée. "

Then said the king unto her, What aileth thee, Queen Esther? and what is thy request? Unto the half of the kingdom, shall it be given thee.

4 Esther dit: " Si le roi le trouve bon, que le roi vienne aujourd'hui avec Aman au festin que je lui ai préparé. "

Then said Esther, If, unto the king, it seem good, let the king with Haman come in this day, unto the banquet which I have prepared for him.

5 Le roi dit: " Qu'on appelle de suite Aman, pour faire ce qu'a dit Esther. " Le roi se rendit avec Aman au festin qu'Esther avait préparé.

And the king said, Hasten ye Haman, to perform the word of Esther. So the king with Haman came in, unto the banquet which Esther had prepared,

6 Au festin du vin, le roi dit à Esther: " Quelle est ta demande? Elle te sera accordée. Que désires-tu? Quand ce serait la moitié du royaume, tu l'obtiendras. "

Then said the king unto Esther, during the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, that it may be granted thee?—and what is thy request—unto the half of the kingdom—that it may be performed?

7 Esther répondit et dit: " Voici ma demande et mon désir:

Then answered Esther, and said, —As touching my petition and my request,

8 si j'ai trouvé grâce aux yeux du roi et s'il plaît au roi d'accorder ma demande et d'accomplir mon désir, que le roi vienne avec Aman au festin que je leur préparerai, et demain je ferai au roi la réponse qu'il demande. "

If I have found favour in the eyes of the king, and if, unto the king, it seem good, to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king with Haman come in unto the banquet which I will prepare for them, and, to-morrow, I will do according to the word of the king.

9 Aman sortit ce jour-là content et le cœur joyeux. Mais lorsqu'il vit, à la porte du roi, Mardochée qui ne se levait ni ne bougeait devant lui, il fut rempli de colère contre Mardochée.

Then went Haman forth on that day, joyful and of a merry heart, —but, when Haman saw Mordecai in the gate of the king, that he rose not up nor moved because of him, then was Haman filled with wrath against Mordecai.

10 Aman se contint néanmoins et s'en alla chez lui. Puis, ayant envoyé chercher ses amis et Zarès, sa femme,

Nevertheless Haman restrained himself, and came into his own house, —and sent and brought in his friends, and Zeresh his wife;

11 Aman leur parla de la magnificence de ses richesses, du grand nombre de ses fils, et du haut rang que le roi lui avait conféré, en l'élevant au-dessus de ses princes et de ses serviteurs.

and Haman recounted unto them the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, —and all the things wherein the king had promoted him to power, and how he had advanced him, above the rulers and the servants of the king.

12 " Je suis même le seul, ajouta-t-il, que la reine Esther ait admis avec le roi au festin qu'elle a préparé, et je suis encore invité pour demain chez elle avec le roi.

And Haman said, Moreover Esther the queen did bring in no one with the king into the banquet which she had prepared, saving myself, —yea moreover, even for to-morrow, I, am invited unto her, with the king.

13 Mais tout cela ne peut me suffire, aussi longtemps que je verrai Mardochée, le Juif, assis à la porte du roi. "

Yet, all this, sufficeth me not, —so long as, I, see Mordecai the Jew, sitting in the gate of the king.

14 Zarès, sa femme, et tous ses amis lui dirent: " Qu'on prépare un bois haut de cinquante coudées, et demain matin demande au roi qu'on y pende Mardochée, et tu iras joyeux au festin avec le roi. " Cet avis plut à Aman, et il fit préparer le bois.

Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let them make ready a gallows, of the height of fifty cubits, and, in the morning, speak thou unto the king, that they hang Mordecai thereon, then go with the king into the banquet joyfully. And the thing seemed good before Haman, and he made ready the gallows.
