Esther 2
1 Après ces choses, quand la colère du roi Assuérus se fut calmée, il se rappela Vasthi, ce qu’elle avait fait et la décision qui avait été prise à son sujet.

2 Alors les serviteurs du roi, qui étaient en fonctions près de lui, dirent: « Qu’on cherche pour le roi des jeunes filles, vierges et belles de figure;
and to say youth [the] king to minister him to seek to/for king maiden virgin pleasant appearance
3 que le roi établisse dans toutes les provinces de son royaume des officiers chargés de rassembler toutes les jeunes filles, vierges et belles de figure, à Suse, la capitale, dans la maison des femmes, sous la surveillance d’Egée, eunuque du roi et gardien des femmes, qui pourvoira à leur toilette;

4 et que la jeune fille qui plaira au roi devienne reine à la place de Vasthi. « Le roi approuva cet avis, et il fit ainsi.

5 Il y avait à Suse, la capitale, un Juif nommé Mardochée, fils de Jaïr, fils de Séméï, fils de Cis, de la race de Benjamin,
man Jew to be in/on/with Susa [the] palace and name his Mordecai son: child Jair son: child Shimei son: child Kish man Benjaminite
6 qui avait été emmené de Jérusalem parmi les captifs déportés avec Jéchonias, roi de Juda, par Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone.

7 Il élevait Edissa, qui est Esther, fille de son oncle; car elle n’avait ni père ni mère. La jeune fille était belle de forme et d’un gracieux visage; à la mort de son père et de sa mère, Mardochée l’avait adoptée pour fille.

8 Lorsqu’on eut publié l’ordre du roi et son édit, et que de nombreuses jeunes filles furent rassemblées à Suse, la capitale, sous la surveillance d’Egée, Esther fut prise aussi et amenée dans la maison du roi, sous la surveillance d’Egée, gardien des femmes.

9 La jeune fille lui plut et gagna sa faveur; il s’empressa de lui fournir les choses nécessaires à sa toilette et à sa subsistance, de lui donner sept jeunes filles choisies dans la maison du roi, et il la fit passer avec elles dans le meilleur appartement de la maison des femmes.

10 Esther ne fit connaître ni son peuple ni sa naissance, car Mardochée lui avait défendu d’en parler.
not to tell Esther [obj] people her and [obj] relatives her for Mordecai to command upon her which not to tell
11 Chaque jour Mardochée se promenait devant la cour de la maison des femmes, pour savoir comment se portait Esther et comment on la traitait.

12 Et quand arrivait pour chaque jeune fille le tour d’aller vers le Roi Assuérus, après avoir passé douze mois à accomplir ce qui était prescrit aux femmes, — et voici ce que comportait le temps de leur purification: pendant six mois, elles se purifiaient avec de l’huile de myrrhe, et pendant six mois avec des aromates et des parfums en usage parmi les femmes, —

13 et que la jeune fille allait vers le roi, on lui permettait de prendre avec elle ce qu’elle voulait, pour aller de la maison des femmes dans la maison du roi.
and in/on/with this [the] maiden to come (in): come to(wards) [the] king [obj] all which to say to give: give to/for her to/for to come (in): come with her from house: home [the] woman: wife till house: home [the] king
14 Elle s’y rendait le soir, et le lendemain matin elle passait dans la seconde maison des femmes, sous la surveillance de Susagaz, eunuque du roi et gardien des concubines. Elle ne retournait plus vers le roi, à moins que le roi ne la désirât et qu’elle ne fût appelée nommément.

15 Lorsque son tour d’aller vers le roi fut arrivé, Esther, fille d’Abihaïl, oncle de Mardochée qui l’avait adoptée pour fille, ne demanda pas autre chose que ce que désigna Egée, eunuque du roi et gardien des femmes; mais Esther plut aux yeux de tous ceux qui la virent.

16 Esther fut conduite auprès du roi Assuérus, dans sa maison royale, le dixième mois, qui est le mois de Tébeth, la septième année de son règne.

17 Le roi aima Esther plus que toutes les femmes, et elle obtint grâce et faveur auprès de lui plus que toutes les jeunes filles. Il mit le diadème royal sur sa tête, et la fit reine à la place de Vasthi.
and to love: lover [the] king [obj] Esther from all [the] woman and to lift: kindness favor and kindness to/for face: kindness his from all [the] virgin and to set: make crown royalty in/on/with head her and to reign her underneath: instead Vashti
18 Le roi donna un grand festin à tous ses princes et à ses serviteurs, le festin d’Esther; il accorda du repos aux provinces et fit des largesses avec une munificence royale.
and to make: offer [the] king feast great: large to/for all ruler his and servant/slave his [obj] feast Esther and holiday to/for province to make: offer and to give: give tribute like/as hand: to [the] king
19 La seconde fois qu’on rassembla des jeunes filles, Mardochée était assis à la porte du roi.
and in/on/with to gather virgin second and Mordecai to dwell in/on/with gate [the] king
20 Esther n’avait fait connaître ni sa naissance ni son peuple, selon que Mardochée le lui avait ordonné; et Esther suivait les ordres de Mardochée, comme lorsqu’elle était élevée par lui.

21 En ces jours-là, comme Mardochée était assis à la porte du roi, Bagathan et Tharès, deux eunuques du roi, gardes du palais, poussés par la colère, voulurent porter la main sur le roi Assuérus.

22 Mardochée eut connaissance du complot et il en informa la reine Esther, qui le redit au roi de la part de Mardochée.
and to know [the] word: thing to/for Mordecai and to tell to/for Esther [the] queen and to say Esther to/for king in/on/with name Mordecai
23 Le fait ayant été examiné et trouvé exact, les deux eunuques furent pendus à un bois, et cela fut écrit dans le livre des Chroniques en présence du roi.
and to seek [the] word: deed and to find and to hang two their upon tree: stake and to write in/on/with scroll: book word: deed [the] day to/for face: before [the] king
