Amos 3
1 Écoutez cette parole que Yahweh a prononcée sur vous, enfants d’Israël, « sur toute la famille que j’ai fait monter du pays d’Égypte », — en ces termes:
Hear ye this word, which Yahweh hath spoken, concerning you, ye sons of Israel, —concerning the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt saying: —
2 Je n’ai connu que vous seuls parmi toutes les familles de la terre; c’est pourquoi je vous punirai de toutes vos iniquités.
Only you, have I acknowledged, of all the families of the ground, For this cause, will I visit upon you all your iniquities.
3 Deux hommes marchent-ils ensemble, sans qu’ils se soient accordés?
Can two walk together, —except they meet?
4 Le lion rugit-il dans la forêt, sans avoir une proie? Le lionceau fait-il retentir sa voix du fond de sa tanière, sans qu’il ait rien pris?
Will a lion roar in the forest, when, prey, he hath none? Will a young lion utter his voice out of his den, when he hath made no capture?
5 Le passereau tombe-t-il dans le filet à terre, sans qu’il y ait un appât pour lui! Le filet se lève-t-il du sol, sans qu’il ait pris quelque chose?
Will a bird fall upon a net to the earth, when there is no, snare, for it? Will a net rise from the ground, when it hath, captured nothing?
6 Sonne-t-on de la trompette dans une ville, sans que le peuple s’épouvante? Arrive-t-il un malheur dans une ville, sans que Yahweh en soit l’auteur?
Or a horn be blown in a city, and, a people, not tremble? Or calamity happen in a city, and, Yahweh, not have wrought with effect?
7 Car le Seigneur Yahweh ne fait rien sans qu’il ait révélé son secret à ses serviteurs, les prophètes.
Surely My Lord Yahweh, will do, nothing, —except he have disclosed his secret unto his servants, the prophets!
8 Le lion a rugi: qui ne craindrait? Le Seigneur Yahweh a parlé: qui ne prophétiserait?
A lion, hath roared, Who will not fear? My Lord Yahweh, hath spoken, Who can forbear to prophesy?
9 Faites entendre cette parole sur les palais dans Azot, et sur les palais dans la terre d’Égypte, et dites: Rassemblez-vous sur les montagnes de Samarie, et voyez quels nombreux désordres sont au milieu d’elle, et quelles violences dans son sein.
Announce it over the palaces in Ashdod, and over the palaces in the land of Egypt, —and say ye—Gather yourselves together upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold ye—the great disorders in the midst thereof, and the oppressed within her.
10 Et ils ne savent pas agir avec droiture, — oracle de Yahweh, eux qui entassent la violence et le pillage dans leurs palais.
Therefore do they not know how to do right, Declareth Yahweh, who are treasuring up violence and spoil in their palaces.
11 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Voici l’ennemi, il enserre le pays; il te dépouillera de ta force, et tes palais seront pillés.
Therefore—Thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, An adversary! Yea round about the land, —and he who shall bring down, from thee, thy strength, And spoiled shall be thy palaces.
12 Ainsi parle Yahweh: Comme le berger arrache de la gueule du lion deux jarrets ou un bout d’oreille, ainsi seront sauvés les enfants d’Israël, qui sont assis à Samarie, au coin d’un divan, sur des coussins de Damas.
Thus, saith Yahweh, Just as a shepherd rescueth, out of the mouth of the lion, a couple of shankbones, or the tip of an ear, so, shall be rescued the sons of Israel, who are tarrying in Samaria, in the corner of the divan, and on the damask of the luxurious couch.
13 Écoutez, et attestez ceci dans la maison de Jacob, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh, le Dieu des armées:
Hear ye and bear witness, throughout the house of Jacob, —Commandeth My Lord, Yahweh, God of hosts:
14 Le jour où je vengerai sur lui les transgressions d’Israël, je vengerai aussi les autels de Béthel; les cornes de l’autel seront brisées, et elles tomberont à terre.
That, in the day I visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, then will I punish, concerning the altars of Bethel, So shall the horns of the altar, be broken off, and they shall fall to the ground;
15 Je frapperai la maison d’hiver, avec la maison d’été; les maisons d’ivoire seront dévastées, et de nombreuses maisons seront détruites, — oracle de Yahweh.
And I will smite the winter house along with the summer house, —and the houses of ivory, shall be destroyed! and the great houses, shall disappear, Declareth Yahweh.
