2 Samuel 8

1 Après cela, David battit les Philistins et les abaissa, et David ôta de la main des Philistins les rênes de leur capitale.

And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 Il battit les Moabites et, les ayant fait coucher par terre, il les mesura au cordeau; il en mesura deux cordeaux pour les faire mourir, et un plein cordeau pour leur laisser la vie. Et les Moabites furent pour David des esclaves lui apportant le tribut.

And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines he measured to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And [so] the Moabites became David's servants, [and] brought gifts.

3 David battit Hadadézer, fils de Rohob, roi de Soba, lorsqu'il était en chemin pour établir sa domination sur le fleuve de l'Euphrate.

David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.

4 Et David lui prit mille sept cents cavaliers et vingt mille hommes de pied; et David coupa les jarrets à tous les chevaux d'attelage et n'en laissa que cent attelages.

And David took from him a thousand [chariots], and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot -[horses], but reserved of them [for] a hundred chariots.

5 Les Syriens de Damas étant venus au secours d'Hadadézer, roi de Soba, David battit aux Syriens vingt-deux mille hommes.

And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succor Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

6 David mit des garnisons dans la Syrie de Damas, et les Syriens furent pour David des esclaves apportant le tribut. Yahweh donnait la victoire à David partout où il allait.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, [and] brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

7 David prit les boucliers d'or qui étaient sur les serviteurs d'Hadadézer, et les apporta à Jérusalem.

And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 Le roi David prit encore une grande quantité d'airain à Bété et à Béroth, villes d'Hadadézer.

And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took very much brass.

9 Lorsque Thoü, roi de Hamath, apprit que David avait battu toutes les forces d'Hadadézer,

When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

10 Thoü envoya Joram, son fils, vers le roi David, pour le saluer et le féliciter d'avoir attaqué Hadadézer et de l'avoir battu, car Thoü était constamment en guerre avec Hadadézer. Joram avait dans la main des vases d'or, des vases d'argent et des vases d'airain.

Then Toi sent Joram his son to king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: (for Hadadezer had wars with Toi) and [Joram] brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:

11 Le roi David les consacra aussi à Yahweh, avec l'argent et l'or qu'il consacra après les avoir enlevés à toutes les nations qu'il avait foulées aux pieds,

Which also king David dedicated to the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;

12 à la Syrie, à Moab, aux fils d'Ammon, aux Philistins, à Amalec, et au butin d'Hadadézer, fils de Rohob, roi de Soba.

Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 David se fit un nom, lorsqu'il revint de battre les Syriens, dans la vallée du Sel, au nombre de dix-huit mille.

And David made [him] a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of Salt, [being] eighteen thousand [men].

14 Il mit des garnisons dans Edom; en tout Edom il mit des garnisons, et tout Edom fut assujetti à David. Et Yahweh donnait la victoire à David partout où il allait.

And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

15 David régna sur tout Israël, et David faisait droit et justice à tout son peuple.

And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice to all his people.

16 Joab, fils de Sarvia, commandait l'armée; Josaphat, fils d'Ahilud, était archiviste;

And Joab the son of Zeruiah [was] over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud [was] recorder;

17 Sadoc, fils d'Achitob, et Achimélec, fils d'Abiathar, étaient prêtres; Saraias était secrétaire;

And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, [were] the priests: and Seraiah [was] the scribe;

18 Banaïas, fils de Joiada, était chef des Céréthiens et des Phéléthiens; et les fils de David étaient ses conseillers intimes.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was over] both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were chief rulers.
