2 Samuel 3
1 La guerre fut longue entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David. David allait se fortifiant, et la maison de Saül allait s'affaiblissant.
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
2 Il naquit à David des fils à Hébron. Son premier-né fut Ammon, d'Achinoam de Jezraël;
Now sons were born to David in Hebron. And his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel;
3 le second Chéléab, d'Abigaïl de Carmel, femme de Nabal; le troisième Absalom, fils de Maaca, fille de Tholmaï, roi de Gessur;
and his second, Daluiah, of Abigail of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
4 le quatrième Adonias, fils de Haggith; le cinquième Saphathia, fils d'Abital,
and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah, of Abital;
5 et le sixième Jéthraam, d'Egla, femme de David. Tels sont les fils qui naquirent à David à Hébron.
and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.
6 Pendant qu'il y avait guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David, Abner se fortifiait dans la maison de Saül.
And it came about while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner was gaining power in the house of Saul.
7 Or Saül avait eu une concubine, nommée Respha, fille d'Aia. Et Isboseth dit à Abner:
Now Saul had a secondary wife, Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ishbaal son of Saul said to Abner, "Why have you gone in to my father's secondary wife?"
8 « Pourquoi es-tu venu vers la concubine de mon père? » Abner, très irrité des paroles d'Isboseth, répondit: « Suis-je une tête de chien appartenant à Juda? Aujourd'hui je montre de la faveur à la maison de Saül, ton père, à ses frères et à ses amis, et je ne t'ai point livré aux mains de David, et c'est aujourd'hui que tu me reproches une faute avec cette femme?
Then Abner was very angry over the words of Ishbaal, and said, "Am I a dog's head? Until today, is it for myself that I have been doing all these things, showing loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David? And yet you charge me this day with a fault concerning this woman.
9 Que Dieu traite Abner dans toute sa rigueur, si je n'agis pas avec David selon ce que Yahweh lui a juré,
God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as the LORD has sworn to David, I do not do even so to him;
10 en disant qu'il enlèverait la royauté de la maison de Saül, et qu'il établirait le trône de David sur Israël et sur Juda, depuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée! »
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba."
11 Isboseth ne put répondre un seul mot à Abner, parce qu'il le craignait.
And Ishbaal could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.
12 Abner envoya des messagers à David pour lui dire de sa part: « A qui est le pays? Fais ton alliance avec moi, et voici que ma main t'aidera pour tourner vers toi tout Israël. »
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, "Whose is the land?" and saying, "Make an agreement with me, and look, my hand shall be with you, to bring all Israel around to you."
13 Il répondit: « Bien! je ferai alliance avec toi; mais je te demande une chose, c'est que tu ne voies pas ma face sans m'amener Michol, fille de Saül, lorsque tu viendras pour voir ma face. »
He said, "Good. I will make a covenant with you, but one thing I require of you. That is, you shall not see my face unless you first bring Mikal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face."
14 Et David envoya des messagers à Isboseth, fils de Saül, pour lui dire: « Donne-moi ma femme Michol, que j'ai épousée pour cent prépuces de Philistins. »
David sent messengers to Ishbaal, Saul's son, saying, "Give me my wife Mikal, whom I betrothed to myself for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines."
15 Isboseth l'envoya prendre à son mari Phaltiel, fils de Laïs;
Ishbaal sent and took her from her husband Paltiel the son of Laish.
16 et son mari l'accompagna, marchant et pleurant derrière elle, jusqu'à Bathurim. Là Abner lui dit: « Va, retourne chez toi. » Et il s'en retourna.
But her husband went with her, weeping behind her, as far as Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, "Go back." So he went back.
17 Abner eut des pourparlers avec les anciens d'Israël, et leur dit: « Vous désiriez depuis longtemps déjà avoir David pour roi;
Abner advised the elders of Israel, saying, "For some time you have wanted David to be king over you.
18 agissez donc maintenant, car Yahweh a dit à David: C'est par la main de David, mon serviteur, que je délivrerai mon peuple d'Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis. »
Now then do it, for the LORD has spoken of David, saying, 'By the hand of my servant David, I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'"
19 Abner parla aussi aux oreilles de Benjamin, et Abner alla reporter aux oreilles de David, à Hébron, ce qui paraissait bon aux yeux d'Israël et aux yeux de toute la maison de Benjamin.
And Abner also spoke privately to the sons of Benjamin. And Abner also spoke privately to David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and to the whole house of Benjamin.
20 Abner vint près de David, à Hébron, accompagné de vingt hommes; et David fit un festin à Abner et aux hommes qui l'accompagnaient.
So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. David made Abner and the men who were with him a feast.
21 Et Abner dit à David: « Je vais me lever et partir pour rassembler tout Israël vers mon seigneur le roi; ils feront alliance avec toi et tu régneras sur tout ce que ton âme désire. » Et David congédia Abner, qui s'en alla en paix.
Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your soul desires." David sent Abner away; and he left in peace.
22 Mais voici que les serviteurs de David et Joab revenaient d'une excursion, ramenant avec eux un grand butin. — Abner n'était plus auprès de David à Hébron, car David l'avait congédié et il s'en était allé en paix. —
Look, the servants of David and Joab were returning from a raid, and brought in a great spoil with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he left in peace.
23 Joab et toute la troupe qui était avec lui arrivèrent, et on fit ce rapport à Joab: « Abner, fils de Ner, est venu auprès du roi, qui l'a congédié, et il s'en est allé en paix. »
When Joab and all the army who was with him had come, they told Joab, saying, "Abner the son of Ner came to David, and he has sent him away, and he left in peace."
24 Joab se rendit chez le roi et dit: « Qu'as-tu fait? Voilà qu'Abner est venu vers toi: pourquoi l'as-tu congédié et laissé partir?
Then Joab came to the king, and said, "What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why is it that you have sent him away? Now he has gone.
25 Tu connais Abner, fils de Ner: c'est pour te tromper qu'il est venu, pour épier ta conduite, et savoir tout ce que tu fais. »
Don't you know the evil ways of Abner the son of Ner? He came to deceive you and to observe your movements and to learn everything that you are doing."
26 Joab, ayant quitté David, envoya sur les traces d'Abner des messagers qui le ramenèrent depuis la citerne de Sira, sans que David en sût rien.
When Joab had left David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David did not know it.
27 Quand Abner fut de retour à Hébron, Joab le tira à l'écart, dans l'intérieur de la porte, comme pour lui parler tranquillement, et là il le frappa au ventre; il mourut, à cause du sang d'Asaël, frère de Joab.
When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the abdomen, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.
28 David l'apprit ensuite, et il dit: « Je suis à jamais, moi et mon royaume, innocent, devant Yahweh, du sang d'Abner, fils de Ner.
Afterward, when David heard it, he said, "I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD now and forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.
29 Que ce sang retombe sur la tête de Joab et sur toute la maison de son père! Qu'il y ait toujours dans la maison de Joab un homme qui souffre d'un flux ou de la lèpre, ou qui tienne le fuseau, ou qui tombe par l'épée, ou qui manque de pain. »
May it whirl over the head of Joab, and on all his father's house. Let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread."
30 C'est ainsi que Joab et Abisaï, son frère, tuèrent Abner, parce qu'il avait donné la mort à leur frère Asaël, à Gabaon, dans la bataille.
So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.
31 David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui: « Déchirez-vos vêtements, ceignez-vous de sacs et faites le deuil devant Abner. » Et le roi David marchait derrière la litière.
David said to Joab, and to all the people who were with him, "Tear your clothes, and clothe yourselves with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner." And King David followed the coffin.
32 On enterra Abner à Hébron. Le roi pleura à haute voix sur le tombeau d'Abner et tout le peuple pleura.
They buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.
33 Le roi chanta un chant funèbre sur Abner, et dit: Abner devait-il mourir comme meurt un insensé?
The king lamented for Abner, and said, "Should Abner die as a fool dies?
34 Tes mains ne furent pas liées et tes pieds ne furent pas jetés dans les chaînes! Tu es tombé comme on tombe devant des scélérats. Tout le peuple continua de se lamenter sur Abner;
Your hands were not bound in chains, your feet were not put into fetters. As a man falls before the ruthless, so you fell." All the people wept again over him.
35 et tout le peuple s'approcha de David pour lui faire prendre de la nourriture lorsqu'il était encore jour. Mais David fit ce serment: « Que Yahweh me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si je goûte du pain ou quoi que ce soit avant le coucher du soleil! »
Then all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, until the sun goes down."
36 Tout le peuple le remarqua et le trouva bon, comme il trouvait bon tout ce que faisait le roi.
And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them; just as everything the king did pleased the people.
37 Tout le peuple et tout Israël comprirent en ce jour que ce n'était point de par le roi qu'on avait fait mourir Abner, fils de Ner.
So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to kill Abner the son of Ner.
38 Le roi dit à ses serviteurs: « Ne savez-vous pas qu'un chef, qu'un grand homme est tombé aujourd'hui en Israël?
The king said to his servants, "Do you not realize that a leader and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?
39 Pour moi, je suis doux, quoiqu'ayant reçu l'onction royale; et ces hommes, les fils de Sarvia, sont plus durs que moi. Que Yahweh rende à qui fait le mal selon le mal qu'il fait! »
I am this day weak, though anointed king. And these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too brutal for me. May the LORD reward the evildoer according to his wickedness."
